You can try the upgrade, but if the D/A converters and audio amp are crap you could install Genelec 8010A's it they will still sound like crap.

Re: Acer announces the TravelMate P2 and TravelMate P6 to take on the ThinkPads and Latitudes of the world

I'd like to see their test results and know of the lab that conducted these tests. " Applicability to "ruggedized" consumer products MIL-STD-810 is a flexible standard that allows users to tailor test methods to fit the application. As a result, a vendor's claims of "...compliance to MIL-STD-810..."...

There is no exact part number. It would have been a CTO order.

That would be a CTO, correct?

I can't imagine there were too many of those ordered with that processor.

Re: T520 upgrade question

Sorry for the mis-information.

It is the 135 watt PSU I bought from RBS when I upgraded my T520 and not the 170 watt.

But there is a metal tip inside the barrel connector on the 135 watt PSU I have and it fits just fine.

Re: Recommendation for New "Light Gaming" Lenovo Laptop?

For my 13th birthday I received a beautiful Ithaca 20 ga pump shotgun. The wood the stock and fore end was made from a stunning piece of oak and the high polish blue on the barrel and receiver was outstanding.

I took a lot of squirrel and rabbit and quail with that shotgun. Wish I still had it.

Re: T440p: missing screw

One of my T500's came with several screws missing. I found a replacement kit on fee-bay from a parts machine. I forget the seller, but he had screw sets from many different TP models.

You might want to just buy a whole set if available. I think I paid around $6.

My first Roland was a JX-3P and that was followed shortly by a TR-505. To sit and listen to those tapes I made back in the early 80's makes me appreciate how recording music has come so far in the past 35 years. It's truly unbelievable that you can now produce a home recording that rivals anything p...

All of the power supply jacks are the same and all of the power supply plugs are the same.

If you install a QM processor you will need the larger power supply.

I rarely reboot my systems unless I want to change operating systems. I'm more or less concerned with access/read times rather than fast booting.

I can see why going into the BIOS would be more beneficial for the way you use the computer.

You can use the 9,5mm SATA III drives in the T520. I have a 500 GB SATA III drive for Win 7 Pro, and a 250 GB SATA III drive for XP64 Pro installed in the Ultrabay slot. You can arrange the bootloader to ask you on startup which operating system you wish to use rather than having to go to BIOS each ...

Re: T520 upgrade question

I installed an i7 2760QM in my T520 that runs great. I rarely ever hear the fan run. You can do better though with the i7 2860QM and gain two more MB of L3 cache and a slightly faster (.1 Mhz) speed. They both draw the same 45 watts so cooling shouldn't be an issue with the 2860QM. A step up higher ...

Re: x201 black screen when undocked

Is it possible this action changed the settings in 'Monitors' to keep the monitor off at all times? As if only an external monitor was being used 100% of the time?

I would check the monitor settings just in case when you have it docked and can use the external monitor to check.

I would use Tamiya liquid plastic cement. I've been using this for years for plastic railroad structures. Its capillary action will draw it into every small crevice in the crack.

Re: T400 Recovery Disk questions

The T400 & T500 series are now considered legacy systems and the Lenovo site now makes you hunt for any software you may need for these. It's there but it's not easy to find.

I believe there are still BIOS updates available there...if you can find them.

Re: Fingerprint scanner

You will need to check the device manager to find out what FPR you have.

Find the driver for that, and then, find out if you need a GUI for it. The driver does NOT always include the GUI to actually be able to load fingerprints to the reader.

Re: Win 7 + 10 dual boot on t420/t430

I don't think you will. You have a valid license for Win 7 and have, or will, upgrade to Windows 10 on the same machine. I recently rolled back to Win 7 Pro after buying a Win 10 upgrade. After almost two years I decided I didn't like it and went back to Win 7 Pro. After buying a Dell G3 with Win 10...
