Re: T520 Running Windows 11 Home

The T520 has so far received two rounds of updates including a .NET framework, security roll-up, and a video driver update.

Still stable and still faster than Win 11 on this machine.

I did try to upgrade it to Win 11 Pro, but that update failed and was rolled back to Home. No worries.

It wouldn't surprise me to know it won't boot on a power supply with 80 watts less that what it requires. Startup requires more power than just having it sitting at idle.

I like the change in the graphic layout of the Start menu. I was at a bit of a loss for a few minutes about how to get Documents, Photos, Downloads, etc, links to show up on the start menu, but I figured it out. I also very much like the Focus Assist that is opened by clicking on the time in the low...

T520 Running Windows 11 Home

After applying the D-Word registry hack and disabling the TMP 2.0 and processor requirements, Windows 11 successfully installed on my T520 in about 20 minutes after the .iso was downloaded. I am typing this from the T520 and so far it is running faster on Win 11 than it did on Win 10. I'm so far imp...

Right-Click Menu in Windows 11 MISSING

The right click menu in Windows 11 has disappeared from my computer. This is built 22000.192. I un-installed this update with no change. The right mouse click menu is gone. Has anyone else experienced this? I can find no information other than a couple of useless tutorials that start with "...right ...

Re: Bluetooth Audio Protocols

Windows 10 and 11 have A2DP. Windows 7 does not and it is difficult if not impossible for a Windows 7 machine to pair for BT audio. I had it working for less than a week with a BT stack I found on the internet, but for unexplainable reasons it stopped working and I was never able to use BT audio aga...

Re: TPM 2.0 Firmware

Thanks for the reply.

I'll wait awhile and check around again in 3-6 moths. Someone will undoubtably come up with a TPM hack and eliminate the 8th Gen Intel requirement to load and operated Windows 11 on an unsupported machine.

Windows 10 64bit will run fine on ThinkPad T410,T510,T420,T520 and the W series. Windows 11 will not work on these ThinkPads. They do not have secure boot and TPM 2.0 and they only have 1st and 2nd gen Intel Core i processors. Microsoft requires a 8th gen Core i processors. ThinkPad T430 has secure...

There's a YouTube video floating around of an excited kid loading Windows 11 to a T500. So much for that experiment....

Is there a firmware upgrade from TPM 1.X to 2.0 I'm not able to find for the T520 Thinkpad? MS indicates my T520 does not meet the hardware requirements for Win 11, but also doesn't say why.

I think Direct X 12 has something to do with it.

Well, at least Win 10 is humming along...all locked down.

Re: Windows 11 Compatibility.

The T520 would not upgrade to Win 10 with either a direct download or an .iso to either of my SSD's. The error I kept receiving at each attempt was that a CD/DVD ROM Driver was missing and I could not find a fix for a MB this old. The fix is out there for newer equipment, but it would not install on...

My Dell G3 upgraded without incident from Windows 10, but after trying many work-arounds my T520 failed four attempts to upgrade to even Windows 10 from Windows 7. Windows 10 has been around five years now. Time flies doesn't it? Where does Microsoft go from here? Re: IBM ThinkPad A31p with Numpad Unit (and some history)

I believe during its time the A series was IBM's flagship line of business laptops. They were workstations designed to replace a desktop for those that needed a mobile solution to a stationary problem.

Their features and price reflect that fact.

Miine has both of those too as well as the 1600x1200 UXGA FlexView panel, and the ATI FireGL 7800.

Mine also has S-video in and out.
ALL of them do. That's what makes it a "p" as opposed to a high-end A31

I thought the top-end model came with 2GB of ram like mine has. Or was that not offered at the time due to manufacturing considerations? Nope. Official IBM RAM limit for A31/p - and T30, R40 plus some others - was 1GB since 512MB was the biggest DIMM available at the time of introduction. That was ...
