I ran a dual drive, dual boot T520 with Win XP Pro64 and Windows 7 Pro for quite awhile until upgrading to Windows 11.
The T520 is a good machine for your needs.

Re: Last BIOS update bricked my new T16
BIOS update 1.14 seems to have finally solved this issue. This was back in late April or early May I believe. I read two reports at Lenovo that machines were booting on additional ram sticks without problem. I was holding out for a few more positive reports, but you know how it is, you only hear abo...

Re: Last BIOS update bricked my new T16
There has been no further reports I'm aware of that any of these BIOS releases have bricked a machine. However, they are still having BIOS problems with upgraded memory. There are reports of some memory sticks working on newer BIOSs and some that will not boot on additional memory. If you visit the ...

Re: ThinkPad T14 Gen3 (intel) RAM upgrade
I know the BIOS release numbers are different between all of these machines whether or not it is the same BIOS. I suspect there are similarities. So similar in fact, that one of more of the BIOS'es for these machines are corrupting the memory slot past a certain release.

Re: ThinkPad T14 Gen3 (intel) RAM upgrade
I was told that about the Crucial and Hynix memory for my T16, but BIOS upgrades render the memory slot useless. T14's T15's and T16's are all experiencing problems with memory slot usage after upgrades past 1.03. If you upgrade (or have upgraded) to BIOS 1.30 or later, downgrade will not be possibl...

Re: Last BIOS update bricked my new T16
This latest BIOS has still not fixed the problem with the memory slot, and for those that had reported that they tried, they cannot roll back the BIOS to 1.03 which is the last BIOS that this memory slot would function normally. I don't know why Lenovo won't fix this. They are going to alienate anyo...

Re: Last BIOS update bricked my new T16
It is virtually impossible for ANY kind of Windows or other OS update to brick your PC or prevent it from booting. It must have been BIOS. Yesterday I went through all of the available update to see what they were all about. I decided to allow Windows to update the OS and I haven't yet had any trou...

Now you have found out "what will break" if you attempt to remove the battery improperly.
Were you not able to access the BIOS to disable the battery?

I checked BlueLink in Amsterdam, but they only have Italian, Swiss, Spanish, Polish, and Norwegian.
Finding one of these new is not going to be easy for a ten year old system.

I don't know where you got your mis-information, but these are just as easy as any other Thinkpad to work on.
Of course I will recommend those I have, and have worked on; the T500, T510, and T520. Same for the W series.

Re: Last BIOS update bricked my new T16
If what you say is true, what would, or could, Lenovo have written to the BIOS program that would have corrupted a memory slot? Is it possible to manufacture ram that has an embedded code that will only recognize a corresponding code written to the BIOS? A whitelist maybe? Or did they just F-U this ...

What is everone's opinion on these updates? The day the MB was bricked, three Quality Rollups and the 1.05 BIOS was installed on 31OCT. I saw those dowloads in the history before the Win 11 reset last night. I was only able to un-install one of them. The other two were permanent. I'm trying to figur...

I've also turned off automatic updates through the Group Policy editor.
I did not know this was possible in Windows 11. IIRC, Windows 10 does not allow you to turn off updates except in the Enterprise version, but I'm not sure about this information.
Glad to see it is allowed in 11.

Re: Last BIOS update bricked my new T16
Returning the ram is not an option. However, after performing a system reset which by default removes all updates from Windows 11, the system still would not boot on the ram. After (again) rolling back the BIOS to 1.03 that it originally came with, it did finally boot with the Crucial 16gb ram card....

Re: Order in for a CTO P1 Gen 5, current ship-by date: Jul 30
They won't ship a MB because it's an FRU and not a CRU item. And, I guess because it's under warranty. What sucks is with such an expensive unit is that your unit didn't get the on-site maintenance that came with my T16. Hard to believe they couldn't get the bottom off without breaking the clips. Mi...

You may already be aware of this, but unless you are using memory in dual channel mode, the Iris graphics revert to Intel UHD graphics. The second memory slot needs a stick of ram to enable the Iris Graphics.

My new Deutsch keyboard arrived from Amsterdam yesterday. It pretty much dropped right in. The keyboards in this series of Thinkpads mount the same way as the old T-series.
