Re: how to test hard drive and other worn components?

In my experience this is just because the T42 is too new for Windows 98. The driver support are sketchy and that's probably why. But if you wanna see how your hard drive is faring after 1.5 decades of life, just run anything that checks SMART values (I use Crystaldiskinfo but you need a more modern ...

Re: IBM Thinkpad R50e price?

If you wanna sell such a machine at any reasonable price, you probably wanna upgrade it to a regular R50 by swapping out some parts. And if you don't have an iGPU board and are able to get an IPS screen to work it sells for far more. I sold my 15" T43 for about 40% more by just having an UXGA IPS sc...

Re: R51 Intel SXGA+

Slight hi-jack but I wondered if an XGA 1829 R51 could support an upgrade to the SXGA unit? The model I have should be the 15". Current screen is 'ok' for an old TFT unit but seems a bit dated. Not a huge deal to upgrade as I barely use the R51 anymore but since I recently decided to go for a new C...

Thanks guys, yep I’ll have a look at T420s. Oh you don't have one yet? Sorry my bad I thought you already purchased one. In this case yeah you are better off either getting a newer Sandy or Ivy bridge T420/30, T520/30 with NVidia graphics, or if LOCALLY you are lucky enough to come across a cheap e...

Re: T61 and windows 10

Hey guys, after a cheap solid machine for my 6 year old son, been looking at t61s on eBay. I had one a few years back and liked it. Looking on the Lenovo site the drivers only seem to go up to windows 7. As well as general tasks, he’d like to run minecraft windows 10 edition. I think the machine is...

Re: Fan sounding like a tractor

As for the fan being at top speed, this advice I read somewhere on the net, the rationale being that this would extend the lifespan of the more expensive electronics. Poster wrote that fans did not tend to get broken on x230. If your fan is already in a bad shape and that you already ordered a repl...

Re: Fan sounding like a tractor

Depending on your luck, you may or may not have a AVC branded fan on the X230 which *CANNOT* be lubed. When performing maintenance my dad's X230 with a loud fan, I have the unfortunate experience of having the AVC branded fan. But I also discovered that the fan has broken off blades anyways so I ord...

Re: T61 hinge binding

In my experience (with the Dell hinges that this trick worked in), WD40 can take up to like 3 days to penetrate and work properly. I would think that immersing the hinge in Marvel Mystery Oil for a week (really, they soaked more than a week) is no less effective than WD40 soaking the hinge pin. For...

I’m in a similar situation with a recent purchase. Did they WD40 work for you? Orient the hinge so that the "butt" faces up, and then squirt some WD-40 inside the butt ...

What are you trying to run and what hardware from these things make it possible? While I don't have these ThinkPad models, I have a bunch of Dell Latitude equivalents to these models and I think those may very well work too. Those are closer to specs of ThinkPad A2x laptops. Looks like corrupted installation to me. Try running chkdsk c: /f, and if that doesn't do the trick, reinstall from scratch should do the trick.
I have 1909 on the likes of a maxed out Latitude D830 with NVS 135M (the direct competitor to T61) and I have no problems with it.

Well I guess should anyone wanted to upgrade the CPU or mod the mobo on these things, I might be able to have a 750Mhz chip coming up. Well I was able to tune my cooling system to work with X9000 (15,4" fx570m unit), and under load high 70s/low 80s were typical. After OC up to 3.4GHz (can't remind exact voltage) it ran in the mid-to-high 80s. All that in synthetical test (Furmark + Orthos CPU loader). Penryn, post-0808 board. Try ...

Seeing that you have a Core duo machine, you probably wanna upgrade to something after the core 2 duo era. Something like T510, T520 and T530 (T410, 420, 430, X210, X220, X230 for smaller form factors) would be your obvious choice then. The T5xx series obviously supports far better screens but may b...
