Re: CPU upgrade to W510 Question

Perhaps see your CPU temps too using TPFancontrol. It could also be that the i7 or discrete GPU (if you have one) is throttling the entire time. Last time I was dealing with a T520 running league of legends at 2fps it was because the thermal paste is next to non-existent. Better safe than sorry beca...

Re: T43 fan noise clicky?

My loyal T41's fan started to roar at starting the laptop. Two years ago a service center just replaced the copper plate and fan assembly with another one from a machine they were taking to pieces for spare parts. They handed me my computer and the assembly they replaced. I cannot tell whether they...

Re: ThinkPad 770z Can't Read HDD

After looking for any (visible) issues with the power board, I've still found nothing (visibly) wrong with it. Since I can find them online relatively easily, I think I will buy one, since they are realatively cheap to find online, and I don't want to go through more hassle to get it back up and ru...

Re: How many people on this forum own a Galaxy S9/S9+?

I am gonna stick with Samsung. Before getting the Google Pixel I had been sticking with Samsung as well, mainly because I like its user interface. I bought the Google Pixel a month ago as I found a very good deal on eBay, and really like two things about it: 1) I have T-Mobile (GSM), AT&T (GSM) and...

Re: How many people on this forum own a Galaxy S9/S9+?

By "mainstream" I was really referring to any phone made by Samsung, LG, Apple, Lenovo, Asus, Huawei etc. that can be acquired in North America reasonably easily. When defined this way, the S9+ was far from the largest mainstream phone, but of course you probably define "mainstream" differently. An...

Re: How many people on this forum own a Galaxy S9/S9+?

Are you classifying the S9 as a "big phone"? It's almost the smallest mainstream phone that's currently available. Again, I was looking into it only because it's a tiny phone, by today's standards. I am talking about the S9+, which had the biggest screen as a mainstream phone when I purchased it (O...

Re: ThinkPad 770z Can't Read HDD

I don't hear the HDD spin up, or any HDD I put in it spin up. Thanks for the help, how do you think I would fix the power circuit if it is the issue? In this case I suggest you try using a multimeter to check for continuity for all the fuses on the power board, and look for pinouts for the special ...

Re: Thinkpad T530 - Fan Comes On As Soon AS Compter Turns On

Silly question, but the GPU isn't overheating right? Even with my i7-3720qm 45W beast the fan shuts off when the temps is at around 45 and only turns on when the temps are over 50

Re: ThinkPad 770z Can't Read HDD

In my experience putting a overkill kind of high capacity drive confuses the hard drive controller on these older models that it messes with your data eventually (Not instantly, it might work for like 1-2 days and then suddenly stop working and then you plug it to another computer everything is corr...

Re: ThinkPad 770z Can't Read HDD

Try an older smaller capacity drive. My ThinkPad 600 wouldn't boot and corrupts everything if the primary partition is larger than like 8-10GB. And putting a T4x series hitachi hdd in results in the system not booting at times until I restart it a couple of times. The latest bios may or may not impr...

First, make sure you are actually working with a T530, not a T520 with a T530 badge as both supports i5-2520m CPU but only the latter supports 3rd gen I series processors as well. Depending on the price and the amount of heat and battery you are comfortable working with, the recommendations are diff...

Re: Thinkpad / Device for College

Um the X220 offers none of: switchable graphics, upgradeable cpu, quad core i7, official support for 1080p screen compared to T520? I am personally in favour of big screens with maximum modality and dont care about the size as long as it fits in my backpack. Also I find the fan lifespan on the X220 ...

Is the screen itself still on? (I.e. backlight off but screen still displaying some image) If so, does it respond to your mouse and keyboard input?

14.1" SXGA+ option only works with any of the ATi based motherboards from all the T4x models. If you are upgrading the resolution, you have to either get a new 14.1" SXGA+ cable (NOT the same as the 15" counterparts) or you have to change some resisitor locations on the existing cable. https://forum...

Re: Display not working

I personally think it may be the EDID chip on the screen not recognised by the motherboard. It could be screen cable as well but that is usually only an issue for LVDS connections (and unlike Dell latitude, ThinkPads never really cheaped out on single link at that because cutting traces on ribbon ca...

I think with graphical intensive tasks such as games you may notice it - especially since you are on iGPU. I remember that I restored a Dell Latitude D630 with NVidia graphics with 128MB VRAM, and 4+1GB asymmetric dual channel DDR2 667mhz. When playing league of legends it starts to stutter randomly...

Re: My ThinkPad T43 type 1871 upgrades

She is being picked up with care. Does it make speed or heat difference if i used 2gb single stick ram versus 1gb x 2 sticks ? 1gb x 2 config means dual channel, thus effectively double the speed of 2gb x 1. Though for a single core Pentium M Dothan, even with the 780 you can barely notice it. If y...

Since I own both a T22 and a T23, I think I might as well make this clear. The safer option for getting 256MB sticks working on a T22 is to go with the PC100 option. However as you know those things command a premium for being the highest capacity available for a generation of devices. If you do dec...

Re: How many people on this forum own a Galaxy S9/S9+?

Here I liked the idea of a big phone ever since the original Galaxy Note came out in 2011. I suppose I can list a couple of reasons: 1. More specs that you can pack in a bigger body (and bigger battery, very important now that phones come with non-removable batteries) 2. Better screen (Thus better c...

How can you unlock the multiplier of a CPU that has the multiplier locked? Or are you talking about overclocking the FSB? Also, the X9000 can be easily overclocked to 3.2Ghz @ 1.2125V (one notch up the factory settings), and if you are insane you can get it to 4Ghz @ 1.4V. Dont have my T9300 machin...
