Re: T520 screen upgrade options

Well, as you are getting yours replaced, I just got mine replaced today too! I took the public transit for 61km for this but it is worth every single bit of it. Did the same to my friend's T520 when he broke the original HD+ display. I had never seen a brand new display (TFT/IPS LCD at least, since ...

Re: Those who own the 15" T4xp laptops, how useful are they in 2017?

Well I have just fixed another one of those UXGA IPS LCD with red backlight (From an A31p but on my T43), and things look so much better on a T43 of mine after getting rid of the red hue. UXGA panels are still pretty useful, while not so for XGA panels anymore.

Re: IPS display for the older T500 and W500 series

Welcome to the forum! No IPS LCDs are to be found for *00 series, there's a LG one that fits T/W 510/20/30 and is FHD. A cable mod will likely be required. What is the model for that? I remembered seeing a bunch of AUO panels but never seen a LG one before. You sure it is compatible with my T530 wi...

Re: Experience with laptopscreen.com? T420s screen options..

Now I didn't have much luck with laptopscreen since their asking price is pretty high, higher than other sources such as eBay. I had personally bought a IDTech IAUX14S (05K9967, UXGA IPS panel for A3xp) from impact computers before, as they are the only one who sells these at an acceptable price. Bu...

Re: Those who own the 15" T4xp laptops, how useful are they in 2017?

I still have my T43p used as a daily driver. Now it has some scuffs from my daily commuting. The UXGA IPS LCD is still nice to use. The FireGL V3200 fares so much better than X300 to UXGA panels, though I can certainly use a newer GPU with video acceleration and DX 9.0c or DX 10 support. Windows 10 ...

Re: OK to use old version of Lenovo Power Manager on older Thinkpad models?

Well the thing is, if you use new enough version of power manager on old enough version of ThinkPads (for example, the T4x family), it simply gets unstable and freezes the system. I had that plaguing my T42 and my T43, thinking that my battery was the one to blame, until I learnt that the hard way.

Re: Starting an IBM ThinkPad Collecton on a Budget?

For the record - and I should've updated this sooner - I have bought an IBM ThinkPad T42 from a forum member here. Features the Intel Pentium M "Dothan" and 512MB of RAM running Windows 7 Pro. I intend on upgrading it to the maximum 2GB. I guess I'm going down the road of "anything will do" from th...

Re: Reasonable price-to-quality GPU for M58p

I do happen to have a NVidia GT 730 1GB GDDR5 which should be pretty balanced if you have E8400, but will be a huge bottleneck if you upgrade to Q9650, Q9550 or X3363 down the line. It costs next to nothing and will do 4k and bluray (non-3d) playback just fine. However, you need to see if that think...

Re: Anyone else ditching the Thinkpad?!

If I don't have a desktop computer right now, I might consider a 15" Surface Book with GTX 1060 for some power hungry applications. Now that I have a desktop with a GTX 1050 Ti, I guess I will stick with my current ThinkPad T43p for now and T530 for intense stuff on the go.

Also the battery runs out in this laptop about 2hrs, and at this time this battery works about 4hrs in the R50e (with almost identical specs). No not at all same specs, GPU wise. the Radeon 9600 / FireGL X2 in T42p is so much more power hungry than the integrated graphics. Also IPS screens takes mo...

Many scanner drivers were broken post WinXP. But check out Vue-Scan (www.hamrick.com). I use it and it works for me. You can download a trial copy to confirm it will work for you. My CPU benchmark is 7763 for the i7 2760QM. Not the fastest, but still moving right along.
That is more than enough. My Xeon X3363 desktop OC to 3.2Ghz gives me around 4500 for PassMark CPU benchmark, and that can still play cutting edge AAA games when paired with GTX 1050 Ti.

What ver of Windows do you want btw?
