Re: WTB: UltraBay SSD adapter for use in a T43

Search one on eBay. Those things can typically come with normal SATA ports, so you can use a 2.5" regular SATA SSD. Those things may be designed with straight front panel to fit in T60, so you will have that weird bottom sticking out if you use that on a T4x. Bought one of those but I need it for my...

Re: T23 Fan Error

T22 fan and T23 fan have completely different mounting designs. Why? Because even the shape of the CPU die and CPU socket, as well as TDP are much different for Coppermine vs. Tualatin on mobile. I've cleaned both of them before so I've seen that difference with my own eyes. Look at the HMM as well....

Apparently all my A31p motherboards I have dealt with all have that problem. Is yours like mine that when you press the power button, backlight comes on (much quicker than it supposed to be), no motor spinning (no fan, no HDD, no ODD, no power to USB ports) However, all of mine are only prone to thi...

Re: T41 Won't Start

Well one of the problems buying those things from eBay is that you have no idea what brand the battery is and you have no idea how long it lasts. I usually buy from dollar store so it's the same story. But if you are the type of person who picks which brand of battery you'd like, go to a legit store...

Re: T43 + video drivers under Windows 7

Use the Vista driver. Really lucky that Sonoma chipset supports Vista. That means it supports 7 because 7 is Vista. This does not mean something like a Pentium iii or PM 7x5 cpu will crash in Vista. In fact, they run Vista SP2 perfectly. But yes, use the Vista driver provided in this forum's Driver...

Well, just go with the AUO panel if you don't want trouble. Experienced similar issue when putting the famous IDTech IAUX14S into my 15" T43. Ending up with a cable that may go fuzzy due to the cable bend and rendered the thinklight useless. It is not like the AUO panel is unbearble like the origina...

I presume by 400mhz only I need to look at the 400mT/s ones, not the 533mT/s CPU's? So the highest there will be a Pentium M 765 2.1ghz... Doesn't seem that much of a jump, or does the architecture help a bit? Will probably max the RAM and pop a solid drive in first before going down the CPU route,...

The only Thinkpad considered vintage that I really want is an A31 or A31p that was configured by NASA for use in space on the ISS and STS. The ultimate in a CTO Thinkpad. Huh btw I have dealt with 2 A31p in the past 2 years. sold one, and don't have much use with the other one, since my A30p is bet...

Re: T41 Won't Start

the cr2032 cell battery on itself is very easy to find. Most likely a gas station will have that.
However the welded version is much harder to find (the one with the battery connector). I had no luck finding such a thing locally and bought on eBay that's shipped from China. Took a month to arrive

or if you live in places that don't sell these welded batteries locally like Canada, you can unweld the original one, buy a 2032 or 2016 battery and use foil + tape to tape it in. Works just fine as long as you don't intentionally pull on the wire.

Well I have just fixed another one of those UXGA IPS LCD with red backlight (From an A31p but on my T43), and things look so much better on a T43 of mine after getting rid of the red hue. UXGA panels are still pretty useful, while not so for XGA panels anymore.

Re: Those who own the 15" T4xp laptops, how useful are they in 2017?

I still have my T43p used as a daily driver. Now it has some scuffs from my daily commuting. The UXGA IPS LCD is still nice to use. The FireGL V3200 fares so much better than X300 to UXGA panels, though I can certainly use a newer GPU with video acceleration and DX 9.0c or DX 10 support. Windows 10 ...

Re: OK to use old version of Lenovo Power Manager on older Thinkpad models?

Well the thing is, if you use new enough version of power manager on old enough version of ThinkPads (for example, the T4x family), it simply gets unstable and freezes the system. I had that plaguing my T42 and my T43, thinking that my battery was the one to blame, until I learnt that the hard way.

Re: Reasonable price-to-quality GPU for M58p

I do happen to have a NVidia GT 730 1GB GDDR5 which should be pretty balanced if you have E8400, but will be a huge bottleneck if you upgrade to Q9650, Q9550 or X3363 down the line. It costs next to nothing and will do 4k and bluray (non-3d) playback just fine. However, you need to see if that think...

If I don't have a desktop computer right now, I might consider a 15" Surface Book with GTX 1060 for some power hungry applications. Now that I have a desktop with a GTX 1050 Ti, I guess I will stick with my current ThinkPad T43p for now and T530 for intense stuff on the go.

Also the battery runs out in this laptop about 2hrs, and at this time this battery works about 4hrs in the R50e (with almost identical specs).
