Re: Internet browser for T23 and older without SSE2 (Pentium III)

W2K is a huge security risk, I wouldn't run any old NT--unless you're not dealing with any sensitive data and don't care about privacy or security on it (which is fair). True that. But honestly it doesn't interfere too much other than making yourself worried for many ppl. And yes I am the kind of p...

Re: Internet browser for T23 and older without SSE2 (Pentium III)

I do have FireFox 48.0.2 and Windows 7 installed on my maxed out T23 and A30p. They work just fine, if you only open a few tabs, install adblocker and also keep the browser debloated, and max out RAM. Of course, if you expect them to run like a brand new Lamborghini instead of a functional Volkswage...

Re: T530 Motherboard Upgrade

I personally have the T530i with discrete Nvidia NVS 5400M. The performance of that thing is around a Skylake/Kaby lake iGPU after an OC. If you use high quality thermal compound (best if liquid metal), you are able to push the clock of that chip all the way to the maximum (you get around up to 20% ...

Re: Talk about USPS incompetence and waste

Well, compared to delivery services in countries like China (domestic delivery, at least), USPS is definitely pure garbage. That said, USPS is still better than the worst times Canada Post can be. Around 2 years ago I ordered some TrackPoint from a eBay seller who's like 15km away from where I live,...

Yup, all contacts have been resoldered, unfortunately to no avail, hence the new mobo.
Since you have nothing to lose by now, try washing the motherboard? Sometimes that helps.

I had never saw one of those batteries till yesterday ... so it sticks out a little in the back. I had just wanted to fill the empty space to keep out dust and dirt. I don't do much battery power work but the extra power may come in handy someday. Another interesting experience with the battery ody...

Just keep in mind to keep track of your costs and your time. Those things easily slide by if you focus mainly on these computers.

Re: How many ThinkPads is too many?!

The main problem is storage space;) Another problem would be that you have to constantly spend time to maintain all of your computers, do a power on test and recharge the battery and stuff like tat. Also, the more computers you have, the more often that things break and you have to buy replacement ...

Do NOT ever attempt to flash T43/p/R52 BIOS TO T40/41/42/p! YOU WILL BRICK THE MOTHERBOARD IF THE BOARD ALLOWED YOU TO DO SO!
Just go ahead get a T43/p mobo and call it a day! I have a bunch of T43p mobos lying around btw, though I didn't mean to have promotion intentionally.

Re: PM 770 + pin mod on T40 ?

As for PAE and NX. It requires BOTH the motherboard and CPU support. I have tried PM 750 and 780 on T42, no go for NX and PAE. I have tried PM 735 and 745 on T43, no go either. (What I meant by no go is that Windows 8.1 and 10 wouldn't boot). Isn't pinmod's purpose to have 7x5 400mhz CPUs run at 533...

In the post I do have 2gb RAM, an SSD kit and a better processor but I'm only 70% sure that'll fit. (I'll update my thread when that happens, some of it's coming from china etc) but I'll install some form of windows on it when it comes to properly test it, and see how that goes. Buy a genuine one, even if it holds 15% of the original capacity. They are still out there. Most of these old machines - especially A3x units - are not something that one would want to lug around to begin with. If you cannot find a reputable reseller or brand for that aftermarket battery, then yeah...

Search one on eBay. Those things can typically come with normal SATA ports, so you can use a 2.5" regular SATA SSD. Those things may be designed with straight front panel to fit in T60, so you will have that weird bottom sticking out if you use that on a T4x. Bought one of those but I need it for my...

T22 fan and T23 fan have completely different mounting designs. Why? Because even the shape of the CPU die and CPU socket, as well as TDP are much different for Coppermine vs. Tualatin on mobile. Well one of the problems buying those things from eBay is that you have no idea what brand the battery is and you have no idea how long it lasts. I usually buy from dollar store so it's the same story. But if you are the type of person who picks which brand of battery you'd like, go to a legit store...

Re: T43 + video drivers under Windows 7

Use the Vista driver. Really lucky that Sonoma chipset supports Vista. That means it supports 7 because 7 is Vista. This does not mean something like a Pentium iii or PM 7x5 cpu will crash in Vista. In fact, they run Vista SP2 perfectly. But yes, use the Vista driver provided in this forum's Driver...

Well, just go with the AUO panel if you don't want trouble. Experienced similar issue when putting the famous IDTech IAUX14S into my 15" T43. I presume by 400mhz only I need to look at the 400mT/s ones, not the 533mT/s CPU's? So the highest there will be a Pentium M 765 2.1ghz... Doesn't seem that much of a jump, or does the architecture help a bit? Will probably max the RAM and pop a solid drive in first before going down the CPU route,...

the cr2032 cell battery on itself is very easy to find. Most likely a gas station will have that.
However the welded version is much harder to find (the one with the battery connector). I had no luck finding such a thing locally and bought on eBay that's shipped from China. Took a month to arrive

or if you live in places that don't sell these welded batteries locally like Canada, you can unweld the original one, buy a 2032 or 2016 battery and use foil + tape to tape it in. Works just fine as long as you don't intentionally pull on the wire.
