Re: Any reason to keep both a 770z and T23?

I think I might have one or two that try to charge - one I think will go for like 5 minutes. I should have three light gray-top later C-Series batteries. One will be the one that charges, one is my original I've had since 2011 that's always blinked orange, and the other I forget about. I then have ...

Re: Any reason to keep both a 770z and T23?

That’s not that bad of a process - I assume it wouldn’t work though on a battery that currently won’t charge, right? I’ve got one CPI battery that holds charge still but the later C610 and similar machines won’t charge it, only the CPi will. I’ll have to look around on the C610 motherboard for any ...

ThinkPad A31 and R40 battery rebuild

Previously I've done half a dozen battery rebuilds, all of them hot swap rebuilds, most of them on OEM BMS with a few Dell, HP and more on Acer battery packs. I thought I should visit one of the ThinkPad batteries, I was originally going to rebuild a 4 cell battery from an R400, but talks with the s...

Re: Any reason to keep both a 770z and T23?

C610 is a terrific machine. Not as nice to use as a C610 keyboard/input wise, but the graphics are way better and they're easier to find, and cheaper usually. I wish I could vouch for the reliability, but I've encountered an issue a few times now across C-Series Latitudes that seems to be an analog...

Re: Any reason to keep both a 770z and T23?

I've got about a dozen T2x machines. Every year or two, I take them out and look at them and usually one of them has succummed to the BOD. For this reason, and for the sheer obsurity-markup of the 770Z, I would keep the 770Z. The T2x is cursed. AFAIK the T23 is immune to the BOD problem since it ha...

Re: [X230] Magnesium body repair

How much of structural stuff do you have to repair? Like if you just mean the magnesium bottom chassis palmrest corners are cracked that can be repaired with epoxy. From my experience there are epoxies that work best on plastics and there are epoxies that work pretty well on metal, but takes ages to...

Re: X2100 loses bios settings if left unplugged

I'm struggling to reproduce the issue now. I swapped the BIOS battery, and the old battery had 3.11v so I think that rules it out being flat? I learnt something new too, I didn't realise the BIOS batteries were not rechargeable, I thought the machine charges them whilst it was powered on, but infac...

Re: WTB ThinkPad with 4:3 And XGA preferred

I actually have both a Dell Latitude D520 and a HP Compaq nc6320. Both feature the same 945GM chipset as the T60 - but these support up to 3.25-3.3GB of RAM rather than 3GB due to better optimized BIOS. Unfortunately for you, both are also equipped with 15" SXGA+ WVA displays so I am gonna have to d...

Over the last 4 years, I've collected - a set of known good 18650s from Samsung - A spot welder kit from a maker in Germany (I'll try and find the link to it) - An 18650 charger with good ratings. What I haven't yet collected it the courage to go ahead with a test build  . Well funny thing I ...

What kind of specs are you after? Yes 14.1" XGA screen but do you want it Pentium III era, Pentium 4/M era or Core duo Core 2 duo stuff? If you say you want T60 T61 specifically then you want Core duo Core 2 duo stuff I am assuming?

Re: T420 always trottled to minimum

I'm trying to get a couple of spare T420 batteries to try and re-cell them. If that alleviates the issue, nothing like it, but it'll take some time to complete if at all. well good luck with that. Just telling you it will be at least with a few of these battery packs before you can get all the expe...

Re: T420 always trottled to minimum

I've also had ThinkPads that react unpredictablely if the battery is like very dead. I had a ThinkPad T60 that would randomly freeze because the power management triggered protection when the battery was like 0V dead (no cells are alive). And that T520 mobo of mine that doesn't charge batteries prop...

Re: X2100 loses bios settings if left unplugged

Great idea - Do you happen to know what the voltage would be for a "good" cmos battery after a few days storage? I'll leave mine over the weekend then grab the multimeter and I'll start by seeing if I have a parasitic drain. I can compare to my original X201's CMOS battery too. A highly charged CMO...

Re: X2100 loses bios settings if left unplugged

I don't own these but I believe a more "silly" testing method is if you have a bench power supply go and supply 3V to the cmos battery connector and read the power draw. If what you're suggesting is that the CMOS battery runs empty after just a few days (and that the CMOS battery is actually deplete...

Re: would thinkpad ips adapters work on other laptops?

In response to your idea of harvesting a thick bezel - I could do that. Problem is, I don't have a dead panel of that size. I'd have to harvest it from my working 1600x900 panel which I'd rather not do. I also don't have a dremel I could use to cut the bottom part out. I'm thinking right now that I...

Re: would thinkpad ips adapters work on other laptops?

The IPS adapter in question works on the E6420. It booted into windows, 1080p IPS goodness. Seeing a screen that good on this thing has filled me with more determination to make this mod work. I now need another one of those adapters, and another IPS display (rip). Mounting will be a challenge, but...

Re: would thinkpad ips adapters work on other laptops?

As for fitting the chin into the E6420, we'll see. It may not work. If it doesn't fit, 1440 route it is. I highly suggest you sort that out first before even trying the electrical side of things. The chin on those screens is EXTREMELY sensitive, if any part of the chin is being touched or mangled b...

Re: Is Gateway computers drivers gone?

That sucks, glad we got the ThinkPad community, and I think Lenovo still has drivers for them as well as for IBM Aptiva, NetVista and early IBM ThinkCentre. I know Dell still has drivers as far back to 2000s, Optiplex and probably older. My Optiplex GX260 drivers were still their last time I needed...

Re: would thinkpad ips adapters work on other laptops?

i think it was the custom connector that the adapter used. the e6420 should just be standard. im not giving up the IPS dream yet, i'm gonna look into the generic adapter. Again I just think it's a bad idea when also the shape of the LCD screen is going to be completely different and present serious...

Re: would thinkpad ips adapters work on other laptops?

sounds like what happened. I'd assume a generic adapter wouldn't do this. I figured that 40 pin lvds was 40 pin lvds, didn't realize that the adapter's proprietary cable did funky things with it. I think I lost the LCD - I can't know for sure until I get another adapter but the backlight no longer ...

Re: Is Gateway computers drivers gone?

Acer used to keep a healthy catalogue of drivers up to the XP era of machines, until like last year where they dumped basically all drivers that aren't for windows 10... Now you're gonna have to resort to either archive and restore discs or see if driverscollection will have the right version for it...

Left mouse button was removed when I took the photo but that was only for cleaning. After cleaning it's still little erratic and sometimes you have to press a little hard or more on one side of the button. I have no idea if the contact can be cleaned more assertively or do they at some point irreve...

Well if you have a battery installed the battery LED should do its thing (yellow if the battery is charging or dead, green if it's almost charged or charged). if your motherboard isn't even going that far then a new keyboard certainly won't help you much.

Well I am the proud owner of the Acer Iconia 6120, that quirky "laptop" from early 2011 that has two 14" 10 point multitouch touchscreens (using the then brand new Corning Gorilla Glass mind you), one of which on the bottom replacing the conventional keyboard.
