Re: Anyone else ditching the Thinkpad?!

If I don't have a desktop computer right now, I might consider a 15" Surface Book with GTX 1060 for some power hungry applications. Now that I have a desktop with a GTX 1050 Ti, I guess I will stick with my current ThinkPad T43p for now and T530 for intense stuff on the go.

Re: How many ThinkPads is too many?!

Well at one point I have 12 ThinkPads. The collection includes: 770ED (now dead, pwr board failure) 600 390X (sold to a forum member in Toronto) T22 T23 A30p A31p T42 (sold just recently to another forum member) 2x T43 T43p T530i Now I am starting to sell the ones that I don't use often away. Re: T42p's battery won't charge while the laptop is turned off

Also the battery runs out in this laptop about 2hrs, and at this time this battery works about 4hrs in the R50e (with almost identical specs). No not at all same specs, GPU wise. the Radeon 9600 / FireGL X2 in T42p is so much more power hungry than the integrated graphics. Also IPS screens takes mo...

Re: Thinkcentre M58p MAX CPU and RAM support

Oops my bad. I personally think 8GB does wonders today. At least my blade AAA games run just fine with 8GB of DDR2. But yes I do have a practice to be very conservative in terms of multitasking because my laptop still have 2GB of RAM. At the same time, I personally use Microsoft Edge and it's doing ...

Yeah but not recommended. It is way off the sweet spot for the price and I doubt the price is gonna go down because DDR2 is never designed to have 4GB sticks

Be with it. Apple doesn't even support any of their OS for more than 2 years for the past 10 years and forces you to use High Sierra in multiple ways.

Re: WTB: Cheap (~$50) Small ThinkPad (X60/1, X40/1)

While I cannot find ones in my local area for $25, I was able to find one with Pentium Dual core (from C2D era, Dell O755) with 1GB of RAM for CAD$40 with Windows 7 preactivated. Slap in a few more GB of RAM, a C2D E8400 which I had lying around, and a SSD, you get a computer that does all casual ta...

Many scanner drivers were broken post WinXP. But check out Vue-Scan (www.hamrick.com). I use it and it works for me. You can download a trial copy to confirm it will work for you. I think the OP is using Mac OS which is terrible in terms of legacy support. Apple is one of those companies that never...

My CPU benchmark is 7763 for the i7 2760QM. Not the fastest, but still moving right along.
That is more than enough. My Xeon X3363 desktop OC to 3.2Ghz gives me around 4500 for PassMark CPU benchmark, and that can still play cutting edge AAA games when paired with GTX 1050 Ti.

I am wondering why do you need a X series laptop? T series have so much more potential, which means better specs today, and R series can go pretty cheap.
What ver of Windows do you want btw?

Although this an old topic I should like to contribute I had an old 770 (P233/MMX) back in 2003 and with any software it would stutter on DVD playback from the internal DVD-R, the way I solved it was with the DVD and Enhanced Video Adapter (DEVA) - FRU PN: 11J9008, 12J0411, with this playback was s...

if you really wanna use the touchpad, you can also instead use the TrackPoint left and right buttons instead of the buttons embedded into the touchpad. I am never a fan of that design, even the Apple ones.

I collect some vintage powerhouse ThinkPads as something for me to enjoy its glory, though at wrong times. My A30p is still wonderful in its own ways (and in a very good shape) and I will still use it at least once a week. I will end up building a A31p soon when parts arrive. I have several T4x with...

Re: T420 slots

That is a combo port: eSATA + USB 2.0 . It is physically connected both to the SATA controller, and to the USB controller. The USB controller, however, is 2.0. There is nothing USB 3.0 in the T420. The fact that eSATA (when connected to a SATA drive) is faster than USB 2.0, and often faster than US...

As I said USB3.0, actually, it's a little faster than USB3.0. I actually use my eSATA port to clone my hard drives exclusively, because of the speed. I usually use the CD bay to do such a thing so that I have a less chance of yanking the port or dropping the hard drive (I broke 2 hard drives and a ...

I personally have a T530 with both NVidia NVS 5400m and HD graphics. While that Intel HD graphics will do multimedia stuff as well as office tasks well, it won't do crap in anything else. You can try to reseat the cable from the motherboard and from the display. Also play around with the cable to see if the cable is defective. Otherwise I happen to have a stock LCD from my own T530i, in flawless condition, that I do not want because I am aiming for a HD+ or FHD panel sometime soon an...

while i dont have a 1st gen Core i product, I suggest you to investigate in cpuz whether its the multiplier or the fsb that is abnormal and start to troubleshoot from there.

Just that a thing with performance is not too much different from C2D 3.33 vs 1st gen i core even T410 has bug that I could not have highest clock with 2 processors in use even with i7-640m so I didn't bother to fix the trackpad/trackpoint issue on T410 with win10 Pro. Re: Why can't Windows 10 be installed on an X41 Tablet?

Main reason is PAE. All fsb 533 MHz P-M only. x41 is 400MHz means no PAE (currently on soldered down P-M only, except socketed CPU many of them are unfortunately 400fsb except for other notebooks based on 915 chipset support 533 fsb processors like T43/R52 and other brands. Re: Why can't Windows 10 be installed on an X41 Tablet?

Well, Windows 8.1 install will be super sketchy because the iGPU inside these things do NOT support DirectX 9.0, making Windows 7 the newest official OS that it can work with
Windows 10 will work but with no video card drivers installed and overall experience will be greatly hindered by that

Oh my bad. Anyways, keeping track of the screws in T4x machines isn't hard at all. This isn't made by Apple. Nah, I'd rather sell it than spend any money on that dust-gatherer. While others say Q9650 or LGA775 in general, is too old for anything, I think Q9x50 and Xeons will still work perfectly for mid-range gaming. Re: Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz

Also, try the latest BIOS. From what I can see, by the time T30 releases, the 2.5Ghz model of P4-M doesn't exist yet, so the out-of-the-box BIOS may not identify it properly.
I did have this problem with my A30 board and 1.2Ghz PIII-M CPU.
