Re: T4x disks

Don't forget to read about the SATA mods if you are into that kind of thing, there are plenty of results for that too, though this only applies to ThinkPad T43/p and R52. And yes I have one of those Ultrabay SATA adapters for one of my T43 which has its IDE port broken. They work decently fine too, ...

Re: If you've ≥5 computers, do you use them all or feel guilty?

Now my computer count is around 12-13. Here are the newly salvaged Dell desktops (with Windows 10 Professional and DVDRW drive for all): Dimension 9010 MT (media use such as Netflix) bought for $30: Pentium 4 640 @ 3.2ghz 3.5gb RAM (came with 1GB) Radeon HD 5450 1GB with a fan mod that balances temp...

Are you kidding? I see no problem in using a P-M 745 (400 FSB Dothan) CPU with a pinmod.
Well never used that before as that prevents this machine from installing Windows 10. I use Windows 10 on all of my t43 laptops

Re: T42p with R52 ATI board

Yes you can but the pcmcia cage is not the same one from a T42 because of one expresscard slot. T42p fan should work just fine, network card is fine too. But Bluetooth, CPU and RAM ARE different. A T42p CPU posts just fine but it's strongly NOT recommended while RAM wont fit at all and Bluetooth mod...

Re: What tips for running a modern T4x.

Well here are the things I did to my T43p: 1. Upgrade to its maximum potential (balanced with heat if you want too) 2. Be careful handling the machine (T4x except for T43 are prone to GPU soldering problems, while T43/p are prone to Southbridge problems) 3. Get a new battery pack if you want and CMO...

FYI, Windows 7 works on things as old as 570E and the first really usable ThinkPad to work with Windows 7 is maxed out T23 (A30/p is better for driver support)

depends on what specs of T42 you have. Forget about any modern use if you have the Radeon 7500 and worse than Pentium M 735. My maxed out T43p can still be used for modern apps and Windows 10. Though Windows 10 isn't an option on T42, Windows 7 is still usable on T42 and aero works with the 9600 var...

Well to be honest a working T23 laptop is much harder to find than T4x or T6x. T30 with fully intact RAM slots? almost impossible. For this reason the price for something like T23 and T30 has gone up recently. I think the better chance is to have WTB and sell thread separately.

I think about getting ThinkPad wireless keyboard (the 7-row old one) with Microsoft Surface combo. I wouldn't get the wireless keyboard if I plan to use that thing to type a lot. The wireless keyboard isn't as reliable as their wired counterparts. it's like you just get lost characters in a long pa...

IF you got the bigger sided version with that c2d variant, you can put a Xeon inside, you know. To be honest the Xeon mod is pretty cool. Hopefully it gives you an idea of what you at getting

Hmm good luck with your T30 then! A little correction: you don't have to be sad for mine, my A30p motherboard is flawless, it's just I saw a dead A30 and A31p motherboard so I'm scared of it taking place in my motherboard, therefore I put some thermal sponge to absorb the heat into the heatsink and ...

I got this, it worked ! Thanks for the advice ! Yay you got it to work! Well I guess the next things for you to do are: 1. Try NOT to move the machine often (if the slot fails again, the chance of getting it back to life again is not as much and you may even get both slots to fail thus trashing you...

The old guy is kinda slower with 512/1024 mb, thats too bad :( You don't have to be stuck with 512mb for a single slot. Every DDR1 T series ThinkPad takes 1gb ram in every slot regardless of their official Max limit. But still, try to get the other slot to work (at least a bit longer) by putting sp...

T30 is prone to that problem unfortunately. Just like how most A3x is prone to GPU defects. I guess your temporary solution is to stick some sponge between the slot holder plastic and the door to hopefully make it work again

to answer your question about fast startup, I did the same of disabling it a while ago until I learnt that if you disable it, your machine takes much longer to boot and much longer to settle down. On something as old as ThinkPad T43, it starts Windows 10 with around 40s with fast startup (all with 5...

All 14.1" T/A2x/3x use 20pin ccfl connector
all 14.1" T4x/6x use 30pin ccfl connector
You should be fine for getting a 14.1" display from T/A2x/3x which is better off for you to find on this forum or those Chinese sources such as Taobao, or pick one from theft store

Well wonderful! The only minor annoyance is the fan, but I installed TPFanControl which fixed that. Huh? Are you sure that's not because of thermal paste drying out on CPU and/or a fan that is dying? I would replace the fan or thermal paste if i ran into those issues. Speaking of which, if you want ...
