Re: New Toy

Discovered something new yesterday on one of these puppies. The come with a Mine PCI-e port. Put the card in and your wireless! Not quite that easy, but easy enough to make it happen. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-WiFi-Kit-for-HP-Elite-USDT-8000-8200-8300-W-Card-Antennas-Screws-/322497271533?has...

Re: Upgrading to i7 2760QM

well I recommend ssd (msata or sata), 16gb RAM and with that Nvidia graphics + quad core i7 (thermal compound reapply recommended), watch it blaze thru all sorts of modern apps and beat 80% of today's laptops out of the water. Well as for psu for my T530 i7-3720qm (same tdp as the sandy bridge i7s),...

Re: T60 freezes while in operation - Windows 10

to answer your question about fast startup, I did the same of disabling it a while ago until I learnt that if you disable it, your machine takes much longer to boot and much longer to settle down. On something as old as ThinkPad T43, it starts Windows 10 with around 40s with fast startup (all with 5...

All 14.1" T/A2x/3x use 20pin ccfl connector
all 14.1" T4x/6x use 30pin ccfl connector
You should be fine for getting a 14.1" display from T/A2x/3x which is better off for you to find on this forum or those Chinese sources such as Taobao, or pick one from theft store

Re: What config T430 is this please?

Well wonderful! The only minor annoyance is the fan, but I installed TPFanControl which fixed that. Huh? Are you sure that's not because of thermal paste drying out on CPU and/or a fan that is dying? I would replace the fan or thermal paste if i ran into those issues. Speaking of which, if you want ...

depends on what you use it for. for office use I have absolutely no trouble with 768mb of ram to run office 2007 and Windows 7. But for 10 tab browsing yes 2gb will not work great. lower your expectations and Windows 7 will work very fine

get a hard drive from the T4x era to get a good performance vs. price balance. The 5400rpm hdd speed increase over the 4200rpm ones are very noticible

Re: Thinkpad classy classics for sale!

Well mine works for 7 months now and runs just fine. My T42 works with those batteries just fine maybe because of a low power consumption, but with the same battery pack, my T43 would shut down at 4% left for the ultrabay battery (before the laptop switches from ultrabay to main battery) and my T43...

Re: Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads

Put the hard drive into another non-R52/T43/p model and see if the problem still persists.
If so, try putting it into another USB hard drive caddy and see if the computer recognizes the hard drive.
There is a chance that the hard drive controller is doomed by your firmware. What firmware did you use?

It works! The backlight bulb was shattered, which I guess is the consequence of having this panel shipped twice to get to me (first to my friend in China, and then to me). Where did you get the panel? I have friends in China and live in Toronto too. Or I can take one if you wanna sell one. I will n...

Re: New Toy

If you are talking about problems with the GX280, the capacitor defect wasn't really Dell's fault. It's mostly GX270 and some GX280 that are affected. But GX280 is still better than GX520 which has only 2 RAM slots and no PCIE And yes dell OptiPlex are very reliable desktop machines just like Think...

Yes the motherboard is a drop in if you have the i7 motherboard, just keep in mind that those use BGA sockets so a CPU drop in replacement is impossible

Intel 2915ABG on 5ghz wifi, how good/bad can it be

Anyone is trying to use 5ghz 802.11ac wifi on a 2915ABG card from a T4x/R5x? I have a lot of friends who don't know the difference of 2.4ghz and 5ghz and/or their devices are new enough to operate on 5ghz 802.11ac, so I've had a lot of trouble with my 2200bg card. Here are my 3 ThinkPads with IPS panels. (All of which are in UXGA resolution) I upgraded the IDTech panel on the A30p into another one with the same model (IAUX14S, 05K9967) with better condition. Since I have its older panel lying around, recently I thought of using it to replace the non-IPS UXGA ...

Re: T60p backlight problem - inverter or panel?

It is certainly a backlight problem. I have a Dell inspiron 2650 with the same problem but I have noticed that you can minimize that problem by using lower backlight levels and hopefully the temperature won't rise to the point where it shuts off in that case. I ended up using medium brightness level...

Re: Best ThinkPad for all times?

I have a broken 770ED, but enjoyed its DVD decoder, keyboard and speakers before it died. I have a 390X in pretty good condition, almost maxed out (512mb ram, Pentium III 450mhz, 14.1" XGA), but the display can't display 24bit true color despite the fact that the graphics card supports it. Re: Buying a T420s: Nvidia vs Intel Graphics, WiFi

Well it all depends. I am the kind of person who upgrades their CPU on their laptop over time, thus I can't use anything newer than Haswell (My newest laptop is T530 with Ivy Bridge i7-3720QM) because Intel stopped using PGA sockets for Broadwell. Moreover, for something like GTA5, it runs fine on m...

Re: G-series hard drive upgrade/replacement question

I think at this point it depends on what model each of you want to collect for unique features, not performance. For example, I still have my A30p in great shape and stuff while my T43p is much more powerful for performance, especially under UXGA, while still unique at the same time

Well that's a motherboard swap. those boards are extremely hard to find and at that point I'd say you are better off with a T43p which has native support for IPS displays, UXGA option, more powerful processor with less tdp, thinner, and easier to find.

FYI the firmware utility is here: https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/migr-64744 Since your model is not officially supported, it is better off with the BIOS whitelist, but I used that utility instead and it works great - as long as you know what you are doing.
