Re: Thinkpad A31P - lots of parts -no boards- to give away later this Year

hmm? When are you gonna list the parts here? Cuz I do think I will need some of the parts. If I were to replace the bulbs, do I need IPS-specific CCFL bulbs? What are some of the good guides available online for those IDTech displays?

ThinkPad T2x battery pack rebuild - anyone?

The story is I have a lot of 9 cell T4x batteries, because I use T43p as my main laptop. One of them apparently doesn't perform good enough for me to abuse it anymore, so I decided to disassemble the battery pack and put 6 of the 9 cells into a T22 battery which lasts 5 seconds. The result is that i...

Re: A31p - a decade later (LONG)

For the A31p, are internet browsers also faster in Windows 7 than in XP? For OptiPlex GX620 you can have up to 4GB of RAM officially. (8GB of RAM may work too) ThinkPad A31p can take 2GB RAM max (if you have the secondary RAM slot alive) People say Windows XP is faster than Windows 7 (if both of th...

Re: A31p - a decade later (LONG)

Mine is actually in the process of becoming a part of my home recording setup. Highly unlikely to go online ever again once I'm done downloading the required software. To be fair it can still go online for it's pair of speakers is perfect for spotify. Yeah for A30 series you have to go with the old...

Re: What computer have you had for the longest? When did you get it?

ThinkPad T43 for me. my dad had it since its release in 2005 and handed to me 6 years later, that I had eventually fully upgraded it to a maxed out T43p from scratch. now still my daily driver, after 11 years of abuse. P.S. Technically it's a complete different computer since the T43 from 2005 is 14...

Re: A31p - a decade later (LONG)

The next day it would not power up. I don't think the GPU went south; more like a general power issue. Being lazy, I simply replaced it with another A31p that was sitting on the shelf. The 'new' system continues to operate 24/7, with an admonishment to wifey NOT to disturb it; hey, it's a science e...

Also the other solution is to upgrade the CPU and ram
also don't run too many antivirus programs, one is enough. For pre core 2 machines, do not run any with autocheck so that it doesn't eat your whole cpu the whole time.

Love my A31p. I know that's fresh news for everyone here... I like my A30p for almost the same reasons. Sold my A31p because I'd love to have my lap stay intact from heat, get a much longer battery life at that and the 1.2Ghz PIIIM performs faster than 1.8Ghz P4M. There are those features...

Do take a good care of them! They are prone to GPU problems and you don't want that on your beloved machine! Each of us took their own solution for that problem: ajkula66 never turns the machine off and never moves it to reduce thermal cycling I put a piece of thermal pad/sponge between the heatsink...

Look for them on Craigslist. Last year I sold 3 or 4 IPS UXGA monitors for $20 - $35 each on Craigslist.
This is one of the downsides of living in Canada. There is ABSOLUTELY no results for the word UXGA on both Kijiji and Craigslist and those sell over $100 on eBay.

Get your hands on some Ultrasharp 2001FP or 2007FP. 21" of Pure IPS @ UXGA. Beautiful Cheap Monitor. You'll never go back to SXGA again. Where did you find those monitors? The SXGA ones in Canada sells for CAD$10-20 (I got mine for free) while the UXGA ones sell for well above CAD$100 I have 5:4 SX...

I have 5:4 SXGA screen on my desk for OptiPlex GX520. It's an Acer AL1715 display I picked up for free because none of the power and adjust buttons are working. And as a matter of fact, most schools in my area still use SXGA panels usually from Dell.

Re: Why was the T3x series to short lived?

Also, the notebook industry in general started moving towards slimmer designs - beasts like old Alienwares excluded - and a T30 was just way too bulky. A and G series are also an exception in that case. Also is it just me or that I prefer T4x's design of moving the ports on the left hand side and V...

Re: How many of you no longer own laptops?

I hope the success of the Surface Pro yields more 3:2 panels, and consequently, more traditional laptops built with that display ratio. Am I one of the only ones here who prefers a SXGA+/UXGA/QXGA 4:3 panel over widescreen ones? I don't know why but I feel the higher resolution 4:3 panels as specia...

The answer to your question(s) will depend on which T4x system - as well as which OS - we are discussing. On my SATA-modded 15" T43p running W7 Pro 360 is fine, 720 is pushing it and can be severely stuttering at times, using Pale Moon. Honestly, I rarely bother with YT on anything that sports a si...

To kfzhu's point, I don't think this is a matter of lowering expectations. I run XP on my desktop, which has a old but more powerful CPU than the T42p (dual core AMD Opteron 185 @ 2.6Ghz, 2GB RAM) and I'm experiencing the same problems browsing certain websites. It's intolerable. Yesterday I was on...
