Re: W520 HSF in T520 with discrete graphics?
Physical mounting layouts does not match between T520 & W520 heatsinks. To do so, needs W520 motherboard swap if inclined to do that for better cooling but GPU is not made for specific normal use. Cheers, thinkpadcollection Thanks for the heads up; I guess I wouldn't make much use of the Quadro car...

W520 HSF in T520 with discrete graphics?
Heya, I recently acquired a mint condition T520 equipped with 2760QM, FHD and all the other good stuff, WWAN, etc. Opening it up for inspection and possibly reapplying some thermal paste, I noticed that the paste had been applied recently; one of the cooling unit's corners has probably been bent dur...

Re: X201: temperatures & thermal pads
Why do you want to keep running Prime95? Once is enough. It's energy-waste, time-waste, doing nothing for your laptop, perhaps giving you bragging rights? Hah... Well, you'd have to run it at least twice to see whatever difference the reapplication of thermal paste made! However, my obsession with ...

Re: X201: temperatures & thermal pads
You can change the fan behavior by using TPFC or IBM_ECW (on Windows), or thinkfan (linux). You can make the fan spin faster at lower temperatures to prevent it from getting too hot. I don't like the CPU running over 80c if I can help it. With CPU temps, it's best to keep it as low as possible when...

X201: temperatures & thermal pads
Evening, Just finished replacing the thermal paste in the X201. I went with AS5; put some paste, the size of a rice grain, then seated the heat sink. I didn't replace the thermal pad though, though I'm questioning how important this is - anyone got any ideas? Does anyone know how thick the pad shoul...

LF: WXGA+ screen and lid for my X201.
Heya, I'm looking for a X200s/X201s WXGA+ screen and lid in good condition for my X201. I might be interested in buying a barebone/fully assembled X200s/X201s with said screen, if the price is right; not prioritised by any means, but if someone wouldn't want to strip their system, selling it in part...

Re: Upgrade or buy a second unit?
Once again, thank you, kind Sir!RealBlackStuff wrote:Nope, just clean up the CPU and fan, and put in fresh AS5 thermal paste, that's all.
Luckily I have some AS5; tomorrow's going to be an exiting day.

Re: Upgrade or buy a second unit?
Parts will be available for many years to come. Option 1: upgrade with either X200s or X201s complete lid with WXGA+ (1440x900) and LED backlight. You'd lose the webcam, but so what! Use it for a month or so. Let yourself get acquainted to its quirks, if any show up. If you feel that it's quite sta...

Upgrade or buy a second unit?
Heya, I've been an avid lurker on these forums for quite a while now; now that I've some spare time on my hands, I thought I'd join in! Recently, my X60 gave up on me, which I've had and been using since its release. So yesterday, I picked up an X201 (6 GB RAM, 120 GB Intel SSD, 560M); only minor dr...
