Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

I'm not processing new pre-orders since Sep 19, when my account was restricted. They say I should expect restrictions to be removed in 2-3 working days, let's see. Ah, that explained my doubts before I asked. By the way I put wrong username in my preorder ("airborne rodent"), so you don't even know...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Don't blame poor David Hill. You see, they still haven't told him it'll be a T470. So the 'epic' thing he saw was probably the same smartphone flick from a Chinese factory everyone was salivating over some 8 days ago. Remember D. Hill probably doesn't work at Lenovo anymore, so he might be kept in t...

Another ultimate and desperate attempt could be to entirelly remove gdm/lightdm/every DM that you could have installed before, write your .xinitrc then starting your DE only via startx ! :thumbs-UP: I made such a decision in 2013 and never looked back, it's the highest degree of control. Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

I've been fantasizing about transplanting MB 13'' screen into x230 for some time, until nitrocaster cured me of it by explaining that mac's backlight is hardly removable, in other words one would need to transplant entire lid. Still, fruit screen in a Thinkpad would constitute a Holy Grail of Laptop...

Yet another Chinese company disproving the popular mythos about how 3:2 screens are hard to get, expensive, and would bring the price of the device up. I'm in Tokyo atm, I have to admit the Japanese have a taste (for million of things, and) for Panasonic. These Toughbooks are quite impressive machines. Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Yes, if it has 16:9, one could - considering all hardships - force a 7 row keyboard there anyway with proper controller reflash. If not now, then in the future. This would be far cheaper than this machine, which probably will cost a mountain of gold...

Well, while a ton of salt and a healthy dose of cynicysm is very well justified, it is after all going to be - nominally - the machine this thread is about. Even if disappointing for some, it might be a machine far more interesting than anything on the market... Let's wait and see.

Re: X220 right click below spacebar not working

As a last resort before ordering the new keyboard, it cannot hurt to try and clean this. So generally try to get as close to the contacts under the button as possible, blow some compressed air in etc. Often the contacts can get blocked by some barely visible piece of dust. Had that with my middle bu...

Add xset b off into any files that are read during your boot. This would be: .bashrc, .bash_profile, .xinitrc, and that funny XFCE "autostart" group. Anyhow first try this comand out in the terminal, it should completely disable the beep everywhere. Then it's up to you how to make it pernament. In m...

Re: Special keys on T420 (Debian Jessie)

I'm on Debian Testing, this is not that far from Jessie, at least for matters discussed. I don't get Fn+F2 to lock the screen indeed. It may be hard to map manually (as Fn is seen by xev to be 'XF86WakeUp'). However Fn+F4 works for sleep. You may want to check whether it is actually possible to put ...

It would be a good idea to do such a mod on, let's use this expression, global scale. So for example, make a small fundraiser (forum people would suffice), buy e.g. a T470, and retrofit it with an old keyboard. By which I mean long n' painfull bios cracking, however I get the feeling the hardest par...

Re: X220 display mod with 12.5" FHD IPS panel from Dell XPS 12 ?

You just have to search for 'x320' specifically. The situation at the moment is: number of x320 and x330 were produced, all of them sold (as complete machines) and AFAIK they're still being delivered. The production is halted until the 'manufacture' can clear all the pending deliveries, so they're i...

IMHO the only merit of T13 is that it's cheaper. T460 dwarfs it in any other aspect. But frankly, if your "x220love' is that strong, just keep x220. Try forgetting all that mad choice which, it seems, is not necessary. You'll sleep better.

I might be wrong but I think if you have entire filesystem encrypted, having acces to /boot (even root acces) doesn't give you any way to get to files. Not even root can decrypt without the key/password, which is not hashed anywhere.
