Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Works for me (x230 2306CTO) in Debian Stretch with kernel patch (on 4.9.51). Doesn't work with the stock unpatched kernel (4.9.0-4), even with display mirroring, screen stays enabled (BL + picture). Works on windows 10 (fully updated, including fall creators update) with or without display mirroring...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Could it be that the panel firmware is doing this? That's possible, I don't have that issue on my 13" panel, but it still suffers from the sleep / login problem. I'll try to troubleshoot it tomorrow . I also tried that bios patch earlier today. Was mostly pointless, as from what I understand of the...

Is it necessary to change this line of the patch:
Don't think so, I didn't change it and it works. My other ports show as DP-1 and DP-2.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

You did change the model number at the bottom of the patch for yours, right ? You can get yours with

Code: Select all

dmesg |grep DMI
should be on the first line. It should show as eDP-1 when working correctly.

If so, can you add links to the patches in the FAQ please? See that post . It can be easily adapted for 4.9, feel free to PM me if you're having trouble. You need to change the model (2325P23 at bottom) for yours before applying. I personally used this tutorial . if someone who has done this posts ...

While removing the bezel, if the side clips are too tight, undo top & bottom first, then slide the sides ~1cm up or down to get the clips out of the brackets.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

300.4mm is with mounting hardware on. Both look like they're obtainable without it, so both specs could be wrong depending on how you look at it. For the edp 1.3, the manual (google "NV125FHM-N62 filetype:pdf") states "All input signals are eDP1.3 interface compatible." so I'd guess you'll have no p...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

So it's around 1.75mm thick with both protective papers still on. The 03 (on top) doesn't seem much thicker than the 21 , perhaps 0.1mm. AFAIK w11 and w21 are pretty much the same. w15 would be a w11 with the plug on the correct side (some of the taobao modders use it). This is the cable "management...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

Weird, 1.5mm should not be enough. Is it affecting the whole screen or more one of bottom / top / sides ? What panel are you using ? Don't have the exact thickness and can't find it online (3M 111c), I'll check it tonight. AFAIK it's pretty close to 1.5 mm. I used only one layer on the first panel (...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

Advancements in Technology and manufacturing will hopefully correct this over time. Seems it has improved quite a bit since that TN panel was made. 2nd run of the W21 without mirroring was 10h21. That would be a 9.9% better runtime than stock. I'll do one more control run on the TN panel. If it doe...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

When I try to detect the projector using HDMI->Mini-DisplayPort connection on the side of my laptop, nothing shows up on the projector, it's not getting a signal from the laptop. I'd guess your adapter is passive and it needs an active adapter like the x220. From what I could find you need DP 1.2 a...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

First run on the TN done, at 8h52. If I'm not mistaken in my math it means the new panel is only 6% less efficient than the stock one. 2nd run at 9h25, that makes it 11.5% less efficient now. With that info, I'll do the 2nd TN run tonight and jump straight to the first W21 without cloned display tom...

Oh boy this is easy compared to the 03.

Mostly what has changed from last time + details on lid fitting : https://imgur.com/a/6CGlx

Still needs some finishing, but looks way better than the first one.

I'll get all the info from this thread and make a wiki page or something so it's more readable.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

I don't recommend the 03 neither. There is a LQ133M1JW15 that is supposed to be a better substitute for the Ideapad 710 LP133WF4-SPB1. Might want to check if that last screen has CABC issues, since it's the only "compatible" (untested in x220/x230) screen made by LG not Sharp. Both should fit as it'...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

I have not noticed it but I read it's enabled on the XPS, so it would apply to both the 03 (2015) and 11/21 (2016). No mention of it in the 03 technical specification PDF though. As for comparing it with nitrocaster's, for that board, it's pretty similar, but the through hole design of nitrocaster's...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

I finally got some more side switchers for the screen and can at least confirm it works with 2 of those chained. No interference or weird glitches in the panel. No battery tests as I broke something on my first fhd kit and lost brightness control. Tested with 2 screens and 2 motherboards, so it must...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

What model is your 13", is it modded ? Not much ideas at that point. Perhaps the resolution during post is low enough it uses only one DP lane and it jumps to 2 lanes after post ? (no idea if that's even how it works) Or windows sets an unsupported resolution / option / refresh rate for the panel. T...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

your patch lists linux-4.1.3. It seems like a stupid question, but can this patch be used on successive kernel releases, like the linux-4.9 currently offered by Debian? Should work if applied manually. Just checked with 4.9.11 source. There are 3 blocks in the patch : 1st replacement is now at line...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

I can't seem to find the same screen as you without it being a gloss panel. I'll keep an eye on ebay. Glossy is the assembly with touchscreen. Panel itself is matte. Looking at that W15, not much details, but sellers mention the equivalent LP133WF4 SPB1 that is listed at 300.26mm wide. AFAIK it sho...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

They both seem to be different revisions of the same screen. I ordered a W11 and received a W21. It is matte. Ebay seller listed LTN133HL10 as a compatible model but no mention of the W21. I don't really care at that point, panel works and fits. If someone manages to find a datasheed for any of thos...

It does save 6mm (2 more than what I was able to recover modding the W03) and will allow for clips on the bezel sides. It also means we could focus on building a kit instead of talking about ferrets.

Pretty sure the plug being 1" further will mean my extender won't be long enough and I'll have to find another cable though. Check th...
