Thinkpad thermal paste quality, re-paste needed?

Dear all, Short and straightforward question: How is Lenovo's thermal paste application usually on modern Thinkpads; is there a significant temperature difference ( >5C )between Lenovo's paste and standard non-conductive enthusiast paste or not really? I'm thinking about re-pasting a T480 that's in ...

Re: T480 not recognizing external USB keyboard & mouse over USB 3

@RealBlackStuff : Thank you very much. I have read that Reddit thread, and it seems to show this works Dell laptops and monitors.

@dr_st : Thank you for your help again. Yes, I have tried powercycling everything several times, reattaching cables, etc. No luck (so far).

T480 not recognizing external USB keyboard & mouse over USB 3

Dear all, I'm trying to get a T480 ready to give away as a gift. For this, I have purchased a Dell P2419HC monitor with USB-C. My plan was to used the Dell P2419HC as a "docking station", as it is designed to be used as. This works well with Dell laptops. The monitor is connected with a single USB-3...

Re: T480, best inexpensive docking?

Thank you very much, dr_st! That was helpful, and I very much agree with your points. I believe it should also work with a USB-C monitor, if the monitor compiles with all USB-C video/power delivery specs; in this case you may not even need a dock at all (if the monitor also provides a USB hub for ex...

T480, best inexpensive docking?

Dear all, I'm looking to give a T480 to my parents. They'll need a docking station like functionality, to attach the laptop to external monitor (plain old Full HD), keyboard & mouse, a couple of other USB devices, and charging. They're older and non-technical people. I'm looking for something super-...

T480, undervolting how to?

Dear all, I'm very much new to this -- but I'm getting a second-hand T480 and I'm looking to make it my personal computer for the next 4-5 years. To that end I'm thinking about "undervolting" as a means to reduce fan noise a little bit. But I don't know how it's done. Is undervolting useful? Which s...

T450, no AHCI in UEFI mode? For Bitlocker

Dear all, Help ... does anyone know how to enable AHCI on a T450 when using UEFI BIOS? The full, long version: I have a second-hand T450, and need full disk encryption. I'd prefer to use Bitlocker in "eDrive" mode, where Windows 10 manages the encryption keys but the actual encryption is done in har...

Re: Q: Current Dock, 2 digital displays at the same time?

What happens when both inputs are occupied at the same time? Does the OS detect both displays but only outputs to one? Or does it detect only one? There are 3 displays, the built-in, a monitor on DVI on the dock, and a TV on Displayport on the dock. I boot the PC up with the lid closed. After boot ...

Re: Q: Current Dock, 2 digital displays at the same time?

I can confirm that this dock does not allow both digital screen outputs to operate at the same time.

Then I have a new question: Is there a way to switch which digital output will be used via a shortcut key or similar? I.e. change from using DVI-D to using Displayport and vice versa?

Thanks :)

Re: Q: Current Dock, 2 digital displays at the same time?

@dr_st: Thank you very much for your kind greeting. :) means that DVI-D and DP cannot be used at the same time on the Pro Dock. Sic. That would be the exact opposite of what Lenovo's sales just told me -- in that unhelpful chat I mentioned. (They did answer me, but the answer seemed so inept that I ...

Q: Current Dock, 2 digital displays at the same time?

Dear all, First post.... :) I just had an unhelpful chat with Lenovo. My question concerns the currently shipping Thinkpad Pro Dock (# 40A10090US / 40A10090EU) and external displays. Lenovo's description of this dock says something I don't understand: "1x DisplayPort 1.2 (Exclusive use with DVI-D) 1...
