Square tip + usb-c combo charger?
I'm guessing Lenovo doesn't make one as I've looked quite a bit. Would like a single charger that can charge both types of Thinkpads. I've found some potentially sketchy solutions like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295637645203 and it's only 45W instead of 65W, but if it doesn't cause anything to b...

X260 has no AMT option
So this model has the i5-6300u, which according to ark is a vpro-capable cpu. Also the laptop has the vpro sticker on it. But there is no AMT setting anywhere in BIOS, and I've checked and double checked everything. I've heard that even if it was permanently disabled, it should still show, but maybe...

Re: X1E Thunderbolt Dock Issues
I don't have an X1E but my X1C5 has "Support in Pre Boot Environment" options under its Thunderbolt menu in the BIOS setup, and they need to be enabled. Don't you have the same options there? Yes, it's enabled. I've fiddled with just about every Thunderbolt BIOS setting I thought could remotely aff...

X1E Thunderbolt Dock Issues
I'm not sure if this is normal behaviour, but going through my Lenovo Thunderbolt dock, my mouse and keyboard won't work until I sign into Windows. This is pretty annoying, as I have to slide the laptop out, open it up, and login from the laptop keyboard. Is the dock supposed to operate this way? I'...

Re: Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 2
I have an X1 Extreme gen 1, and it's my favorite Thinkpad by far. The GTX1050Ti is plenty to play my game at 1080p@60Hz, and the 4K screen is beautiful for doing work. I've been considering picking up a gen 2 as well for the newer GPU and the OLED 4K screen. That said, I'm sure I would have been hap...

I'm really tempted to get one of these, now that Lenovo is selling the R5 models at $500 and the R7 models at $600.

Re: X230 white spots on screen
After watching Louis Rossmann go through the solder job of installing a 1080p screen, I said f-that. So I just ordered a new 1366x768 IPS screen. The OEM screen was actually more expensive than the 1080p...go figure. But at least problem solved now.

X230 white spots on screen
I have an X230 (non-tablet) with a few white spots on the IPS display. They're generally only visible on light/bright backgrounds, but they're still moderately annoying. I was thinking of replacing the screen, but if I'm going to spend the money, I figure I might as well up the resolution to 1080p o...

Re: Still possible to find a 1400x1050 T61p?
They exist. I still have one (Board was replaced by IBM with a safe one, Penryn Native, FX570m), and 14 (sourced in bulk on eBay a few months back) "safe" 4:3 T61p Merom boards. Im building 1-2 T601s with the boards every months, but if you have a T61p with a dead board and want to replace it, let ...

Still possible to find a 1400x1050 T61p?
Never see them on eBay for sale, not even in completed items. I used to own one a long time ago, so I know they exist! Perhaps all of them had the Nvidia issue and they all died?

There are no OEM batteries available that have been made in the last 5 years.
So I'm still looking for aftermarket recommendations. There must be someone who makes a decent battery.

Best aftermarket battery for T61p 15.4"
First question: is this the correct battery for the 15.4" widescreen T61p? https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/migr-67501 It doesn't list the T61p explicitly in the compatible models. But I can't seem to find anything else. Second question: since all of the OEM batteries are pretty old and ha...

Re: A4-5000 vs T2500 Core Duo?
Well, the x140e arrived. I upgraded it to 8GB and put a 256GB Samsung 850Pro SSD in it. It's snappier than I thought it would be. Battery life pretty amazing, too. Although I much prefer the 1400x1050 screen on the T60, I'm still pretty happy with this unit.

T430s battery life with and without optimus
I've had a couple T430s machines in the past, and with dual batteries, they seemed to do pretty well (4 hours or so). My current T430s has the nvidia gpu and it gets about half the battery life. Is that normal for optimus? I thought optimus was supposed to only use nvidia when needed, and I rarely u...

Re: Hinge replacement pricing
OK, I think maybe I can complain. These new hinges are already starting to feel loose. But every set of hinges I see on eBay for the T430s is in the same $15 price range. I wonder if any of them are legit OEM.

Re: A4-5000 vs T2500 Core Duo?
Thanks, Screamer. I put in an eBay order for an x140e. I'm anxious to see how it does when I get it. No matter what, I'm sure it'll at least run cooler than my T2500 T60.

A4-5000 vs T2500 Core Duo?
How's the A4-5000 CPU in an x140e compare to the T2500 Core Duo in performance? I know they're about 7 years apart and the latter is only 32bit. But just as far as snappiness in browsing and basic tasks, what might I expect?

Re: Core Duo to Core 2 Duo worthwhile?
Thanks for the reply. I will probably leave the CPU as-is then.
I may replace the heatsink with one from a W500. I've read they fit and can bring temps down a bit. My CPU will get upwards of 80C at load, and the ATI gpu as well.

Core Duo to Core 2 Duo worthwhile?
Other than being able to run 64bit apps, is there much advantage to replacing a T2500 with say a T7200 or T7600? I've currently got a T2500 w/ 3GB RAM, Windows 10 32bit, and an 80GB HDD. Gonna replace the HDD with an SSD soon, but I'm surprised how well it runs as-is. I've read these units can't tak...

Re: Hinge replacement pricing
Well, I finished replacing the hinges. Both look like they sit at a slight angle, but work fine. I'm not sure if it's because the aftermarket hinges aren't made to the best tolerances, or if I did something wrong in the reassembly. It was difficult to line up the screw holes on the new hinges. Scree...

Hinge replacement pricing
Does anyone here offer services for Thinkpad repair? The hinges on my T430s are kind of floppy. Was thinking of paying someone to replace them. But since it's such an involved job, was also thinking of paying someone to do the 1080p IPS screen upgrade at the same time. What would these services cost...

T430s 1080p IPS Screen
My T430s has loose hinges, and I figure if I'm going to go through the trouble of replacing the hinges then I might as well do the 1080p screen mod. My question is does the screen mod work OK with the Ndivia NVS5200 variant of the T430s? Thanks.

Tightening Thinkpad Hinges?
Anyone found an easy way to tighten thinkpad hinges...something that doesn't involve diassembling the laptop. Seems like it might be possible to 3D print fittings that could go on the sides of each hinge that would provide extra friction. Or maybe there's some gunk one can spray in there, like "3M C...

Well, pretend I said stress test instead of gaming. Just wondering if it should hit those temps when both cpu/gpu are near max utilization, or if it means it needs new paste.
