New orders will be processed once I have everything ready ...

For those who try to pay their deposit and see "Sorry, this recipient cannot accept personal payments" - call PayPal and ask them why they don't allow you to send personal payments. I called them today and they confirmed that my account was not restricted from receiving personal payments.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

@ cherryblue : If Windows constantly looses recognition of FHD display when your machine is not installed in the dock, then you have at least one of these issues: 1] Bad soldering between the adapter board and the motherboard - put new flux, apply more heat (don't poke or push plated holes, just tou...

So does it help if you push on the ribbon cable? Can you check if it is the image flickering or just the backlight?

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

I did some more tests and encountered more problems, could it be the sense wire or another slack joint? Definitely not the sense wire, unless it touches nearby capacitors. It looks like backlight or power issue. Try remove the ribbon cable and clean its contacts. Be careful not to break the connect...

Either the FHD display is not getting power or the adapter board does not make contact with the motherboard. Make a picture of your installed mod.

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

I remember when my T430s got maxed out to 16GB of RAM in 2012. That kit cost ALOT of money in 2012. Now, that kit cost less than 100$ That cost probably $250, while the machine itself had a price starting at $900 or something like that. ThinkPads never were cheap and there's no way they will be che...

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

Agree, that's exactly our point, that soldered RAM is shooting yourself in the foot, and is antithesis to future-proofing your laptop! Because newer higher capacity RAM modules become available over time, so one by definition cannot "max out" one's RAM at the point of manufacturing. It does not wor...

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

How do you solve the problem of "what to do when the CPU goes bad"? I've had to change RAM sticks twice in one of my Thinkpads. That doesn't mean anything. I've had to change motherboard twice because of PCH failure. Does that mean we should put PCH in socket? And what about USB ports? They can brea...

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

For example: We bought X1 Carbon 3rd Generation (X1C3) in 2015, and it maxed out with 8 GB RAM (soldered, which user cannot replace) which we bought. 8GB is not 'maxed out'. 3rd gen Intel supports up to 32GB of memory. What I siggest is to put maximum amount of memory from the very beginning so tha...

I disagree. What do you do with that compact and expensive machine when the RAM fails?
How often do you experience RAM failures? CPU can fail too. Very rarely, just like RAM, but it can. Why not put CPU in the socket then?

can we just get an X25?

12" 3:2
X220 Keyboard
QC ULV Kaby Lake
Intergrated graphics
Upgradeable RAM
Non-upgradeable is fine too, if it's maxed out. There's no point of having memory slots in a compact and expensive machine. You can use that space for more m.2 slots, lithium cells or 2.5" bay.

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

It does not work that way. T60p is old. In every single aspect. It has old docking connector, old display dimensions, old peripheral connectors. It's thick yet it doesn't have enough space for a decent battery. You just don't understand how much it is actually cost to build a laptop. Yes, 51nb can k...

He told me that it will cost about 2 to 3 million USD to design a ThinkPad from scratch...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Occasionally (about 1 in 20) windows 10 just displays a black screen after booting (fast startup from shutdown, not a reboot) and I can see the backlight flashing on/off at about 1Hz. Windows is running because there is hdd activity. Putting the laptop to sleep then resuming again fixes the issue a...

I replaced it with a thin wire
Please don't do that. Next time you'll blow the motherboard instead of a fuse.
