Re: X220 Blown Back light Fuse

Sorry for the late response :( F1 has no continuity and only the right side of it is ground https://imgur.com/a/AAsvgXC Could you please expand on “ Before you replace the fuse, make sure backlight power rail is not shorted to ground. To do that, connect LCD cable to the motherboard and measure resi...

SOLD: ThinkPad 25 (type 20K7)

[ crossposted from /r/thinkpadsforsale ] I haven't been using my ThinkPad 25 for quite a while and it's just collecting dust now, so the time has come to sell it. Pics with timestamps: https://imgur.com/a/t58tvf3 It's not in 'perfect' condition as it would be out of the box: some key caps got a bit ...

If your main consideration is getting 100% sRGB, then you should probably take a look at 13" displays.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Can I leave it and is it ok to use it as usual? Can I still try again to upgrade it even if I lost 4th(from right) capacitor? (I’m thinking of asking it to repair shop ) Missing 3rd or 4th cap is not a problem - just leave it that way. It would be a problem if you were using something larger than F...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

You can try bridging F1 on the adapter board just to make sure this is the only problem, but not before checking that there's no short no display power rail after this fuse.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

I must have screwed something up during this whole process, because now the backlight on the native LVDS display isn't working either, just a dim picture where the only thing I can make out are the white details. As khseal suggested, this is most likely a blown backlight fuse. Thanks to fellow thin...

ok here it is: https://daduke.org/hardware/x220-fhd/ . I couldn't get any coreboot/Seabios display output without the original VGA BIOS, but it's rather easy to extract. Traces in this area look destroyed, which can be the reason why you have no image. You can probably reattach them with magnet wire, but that would be the last chance.

There's a new post on /r/thinkpad where the author says his new X330 came with unlocked BIOS that disables LVDS (and I guess reassigns backlight control to DisplayPort). I asked for a BIOS image and it's actually available . I'm going to try it out on my machine and let you guys know the results. In...

LP125WF2-SPB1 is not compatible. You have to ask the seller for the exact model. That's how it works.
To my knowledge, screens with >50% color gamut are not available.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

VBL20 is responsible for the backlight power. Given that you bridged F1, either your solder bridge is blown or the copper track is blown somewhere on the motherboard. Two things to keep in mind: 1. Do not bridge fuses 2. Do not disconnect or connect anyhing inside the laptop unless the battery is re...

Re: Problem with nitrocaster's FHD mod

You will want a very fine tip iron. Heat each of the through holes with solder for at least 10 seconds, but DO NOT push or use force as you could damage the plating. On the contrary, using a very fine tip doesn't allow the heat to reach solder joints. I found that using a large chisel tip works jus...

Re: Problem with nitrocaster's FHD mod

Given the display you use is known good, there's a problem with the connection between the display and the motherboard. That leaves you 2 options: 1) LCD cable is bad 2) Soldering is bad The reason it works before OS is probably because 480p video mode doesn't require nearly as much bandwidth as 108...

when using Vista, the X230's own LCD is working, no need for an external monitor.
So you're getting a flickering image in Vista but the OS doesn't recognize the FHD display while showing image on it?

Take a picture of the installed adapter board.
