Re: Middleton BIOS on X61

I flashed my X61 with this BIOS and it worked perfectly, without doing anything special beforehand other than the usual routine for BIOS flashing, e.g. making sure the matching official Lenovo BIOS version is present first if different to the Middleton version number. I've done something wrong now ...

Stuck screw

I was trying to replace a PCIe card in my ThinkPad X61 but one of the screws was so tight that I've ended up rounding the slot.

Can anyone suggest how to remove it without damaging the motherboard?

Re: WWAN on X61

Two things here: 1) The machine likely shipped with a "dummy" SIM card. You need a *real* Vodafone SIM in order to activate and use its WWAN capability. True, I believe my T61p has a dummy red sim card (fools me into thinking it's a Vodafone card)... Either that or card is expired. Echoing George's...

Re: List of Thinkpads that Supported OS/2

I'd just like to announce that I've managed to get OS/2 working on my T420 today!!! Needed to change BIOS setting for SATA to AHCI to get it to boot. Did you manage to get wifi or sound working? Or is it just basic functionality? (IBM supported all of the hardware on the T43 with OS/2, fortunately)...

I'm sure there are several different fans which can be used with an X61. I was hoping that someone could recommend one, one which is as quiet as possible.

Re: WWAN on X61

Thanks for your advice. I would like to have 4G capability and will probably get an MC7710 card, but the immediate problem is being able to access a provider. Re: WWAN on X61

For anyone who has an X61 with WWAN capability via a Sierra Wireless MC8775 card, I'd suggest upgrading the firmware which will enable it to work at 7.2 Mb/s which is twice as fast as it is originally. Also it will no longer be locked so you can use any SIM, and it will work on Linux and FreeBSD as ...

I've manged to get drivers for a Sierra Wireless MC8775 card installed on my ThinkPad X61... the thing is they appear as a Network driver, there are two entries under Modems, as well as eight entries under Ports (COM & LPT) and one under USB controllers. X61 -ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows 7

In my quest to get WWAN working on my X61, I thought I would try Lenovo's ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows 7

http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/ds013683

Unfortunately it does not mention X61 as a supported system. What to do? Is there an older version?

Re: Device manager - unknown device

Well, if it says it wants 4.5.2, let's give it 4.5.2. :P A quick Google search yields this installer: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42642 OK that's sorted now. I've run System Update but it does not download the missing drivers, When selecting 'Get new updates' I get a li...

Which version of .NET does SU require, and which version did you install? Re: Which T6x-models support "Long Mode" (where a 64-bit OS can access 64-bit instructions)?

Let me guess, your T60 has a Core Duo processor. According to HDT it's a Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2300 @ 1.66G X86_64 : No Long mode is exclusive to x86-64 processors like the Core 2 Duo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_mode This means you only need to upgrade the processor. T60's use Socket M CPUs...

Re: Two X220's one hot one cool

Good to hear you got it back up and running. It would be a good idea to give it a thorough cleaning now, before it happens again and risks damage to the system though. That silicone oil could actually give all the dust something to stick to. I'd remove the fan blade and lube the shaft inside too, j...

Re: WWAN on X61

It has a Sierra Wireless MC8775 HSDPA modem. Now what program should I use to connect to my ISP? I'm fairly certain that these were locked to Vodafone in your country, so you need to give them a call, see if the card is still supported by their network and purchase a plan. I came across a communica...

Re: Two X220's one hot one cool

Actually when switching on the hot one today, I get 'FAN ERROR'. I took off the keyboard sprayed some silicone lubricant on the fan and blew through the grill but it made no difference. Do I really need to replace the fan? Some silicon oils are conductive so I'd strongly advise against just sprayin...

X61 fan replacement

The fan on my X61 is pretty noisy and I'm thinking of replacing it.

Looking on Ebay there are tons of fans - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... +fan&rt=nc

how do I go about choosing one? I presume there is no reason to replace the heatsink....
