ThinkPad keyboards

What can cause a keyboard to fail? I have a couple of keyboards which stopped working after being cleaned and I'd like to know what caused them to stop working... Presumably some moisture got inside, but since they are not connected to anything electrical why would they stop working? I don't suppose...

This is from the horse's mouth but I'm not sure how/if this applies to the version installed in Thinkpads: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... 05992.html
Many thanks for the link... I'll give it a try on all my ThinkPads.

Re: T420 slots

The eSATA port on the T420 is an eSATAp (eSATA+USB), so it does provide power. Thus, you would need an eSATAp to SATA+SATAp cable (unless you are using an eSATAp enclosure). Would one of these suffice to connect up an external sata disk? :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-3-5-HDD-Hard-Disk-Drive-SATA...

Re: T420 slots

Regarding the ports on the right side, this might help: https://support.lenovo.com/ph/en/solutions/pd025332 I've never used an eSATA port, but since it's electrically the same as an normal SATA port, I guess you just have to find the right cable (eSATA to normal SATA cable) for the hard disk you'll...

T420 slots

At the right hand side of my T420 I've noticed an eSATA port and two other ports but am not sure what they are for... One seems to be an SDHC slot, but have no idea what the other one is... As for the eSATA slot, how do I attatch a disk to it and would it appear as a local disk that I can boot from?...

Thanks for the explanation... I managed to eject the CD drive, only to find there is a new interface so my existing caddies don't fit.. but have ordered a new one since it seems like an indispensible item when messing around with different setups.

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but I couldn't figure out where to ask questions about a T420... X61 dies after cleaning

After a little maintenance on my X61 yesterday it booted up fine to start with but later would not switch on. I sprayed some silicone lubricant on the fan which cut down the fan noise dramatically and then cleaned the keyboard with some foam cleaner, and it worked fine initially. If the foam cleaner...

Having read the sticky thread about using SSDs to speed up T4x's I had a look to see what was available... Amazon have quite a few but the price range is significant... Recently my X61 has developed this annoying habit of just switching off. Could this be due to overheating? I can't see what else it might be. I can switch it on again after half an hour or so.

Re: X61 Noise

I ejected the hard disk to eliminate that as the source of the noise, which does appear to be coming from the left hand side of the laptop, so I'm fairly certain it is due to the fan, in which case is their a recommended replacement 'silent' fan? Or does it just need a good cleaning?

It may be a silly question but is there any source of noise on ThinkPad X61 apart from the fan? My X61 gets quite noisy sometimes so have been thinking of replacing the fan, but before I do I'd ask around if could be something else. And if I do decide to replace the fan is there any specific fan I s...
