Re: 770E Keyboard Replacement

Thanks a lot Thinkpad4by3 , I found the part number for the keyboard I need from the HMM. It's much easier to search for the keyboard now that I have the part number.

This is great! :D

770E Keyboard Replacement

Hey everyone, I just got done physically cleaning my 770E because of the sticky palm rest. I had to use isopropyl alcohol + goo gone to get it off. After the cleaning was done the keyboard now does not work correctly. I let it dry for a month and the keyboard still does not work right. So I'm guessi...

Re: What is a good Linux OS for legacy thinkpads?

jaspen-meyer, I did not have a lot of success with AntiX so I know how it feels. stamasd, Thanks for the info! It will help a lot if I decide to switch to Debian. Have you about updating that box? It might possible.. goldeneagle, Thanks for the bios info. That will be useful. I plan on updating the ...

Re: Ultranav not working. Help.

So the T61 touchpad with cable came in yesterday and was finally able to plug this into this Z61p.

Now my ultranav is back and working as good as it used to. Everything is now working.

The touchpad with cable was pretty easy to snap in.

Thanks TPFanatic!! :-D

Re: What is a good Linux OS for legacy thinkpads?

I really appreciate everyones help so far.. stamasd, I tried fdisk /mbr and antix still did not boot up. Darn. jaspen-meyer, i used the slackware install CD to examine the partitions with fdisk and I did not see the boot flag...which might be the reason why it wont boot. Good call.. my setup is simp...

Yeah I booted to DOS and fdisk can see it and I was also able to make a new partition.

I don't know what the issue is.

380XD type of monitor?

Hi all, I decided that I'm going to install a legacy OS for this 380XD. I chose redhat 6.0. The installation is going smooth but I'm stuck at this part where it says.. "What type of monitor do you have? If you would rather specify the sync frequencies of your monitor, choose "Custom" from the list."...

Re: What is a good Linux OS for legacy thinkpads?

Alright. So I decided to write a floppy image containing the Plop boot manager to help me verify the boot error I9990305. I was hoping that this Plop boot manager could boot the AntiX OS but it cant and here is why.. It says, "MBR: CHECK.. MBR: IS VALID.. CHECKING BOOTSECTOR WARNING: NO VALID BOOTSE...

Re: What is a good Linux OS for legacy thinkpads?

jaspen-meyer, Yes it is suitable because I can use it in live mode. How do I tell if grub is install at /dev/sda? Sorry I'm fairly new to linux. AND if its not installed, how do I install grub there? I used the 380XD to install AntiX. I am going to put the default 4090mb hdd back in and re-install a...

Re: What is a good Linux OS for legacy thinkpads?

Thanks jaspen-meyer I looked it up in the HMM and it said what you said. Your right. But how could that be?? I mean... i was able to install antiX to it. I only used one partition for the root at /dev/sda1 I checked the boot order and reseated the hdd and still says the same code. Maybe it is the MB...

Re: What is a good Linux OS for legacy thinkpads?

stamasd, I have not yet tried looking for bios upgrades for legacy thinkpads. I bet its difficult to find them, or, do you know a good place to get them? I doubt lenovo has available to download. If you do attempt an install on a 755 you might try tiny core? lol Same here, I have purchased a cd from...

Re: What is a good Linux OS for legacy thinkpads?

stamasd, WOW! You own a 755CX! That is cool! When was the last time you turn it on? 15 years ago? Do you think it was AntiX that you installed on it? Because I know its Debian based distro. I love slackware. brchan, Does puppy linux require any further config to get to work at full 800x600? So since...

What Linux distributions have worked for you? I'm talking for thinkpads earlier then 2K.

What Linux OS would you recommend for a 380XD?

Re: 380XD not booting OS.

Alright.

/ should be 8192MB OR 4096MB

/home should be 8192MB OR 4096MB

/usr/local is 3900MB OR 4096MB

/swap is 196MB OR 4096MB AND KILL THE REST OF THE REMAINING SPACE?

This partition scheme should work right?

380XD not booting OS.

Hey y'all This is a 380XD with 98MB of ram, a 20GB hdd, 233Mhz Pentium cpu. I just got done installing slackware with the 2.6.37.6 kernel with lilo boot manager and ext2 is my chosen file system. This is a fresh install. When I boot up the machine I get the following output.. L 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 ...

I'm leaning towards http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad ... Swp5JWVgyJ

The palm rest is just plastic and the fingerprint reader works so all I need is the touchpad with cables.

Knock on wood... :-D

Re: Ultranav not working. Help.

TPFanatic, I re-installed the ultranav driver with no success. I have not tried installing a new palm rest but hopefully it does not come down to that. I actually might just buy the palm rest first..but im not sure.. Maybe the pcb suffered from ESD damage? Or I pulled to hard when I took the palm re...

dr_st, I prefer to use the trackpoint because I'm a die-hard Thinkpad user. :thumbs-UP: TPFanatic, The FPR works. Hm.... I guess I should start wiggling it instead. The FPR shares the same cable as the touchpad. But the touchpad and buttons don't work. But the FPR works. WEIRD... :banghead: lol The ...

Re: Ultranav not working. Help.

I boot it up without the palm rest cable and now I can use the trackpoint again.

Now I'm thinking the palm rest cable is bad.

I admit, taking the palm rest off a z61p is stiff. I took it off pretty hard..

Re: Ultranav not working. Help.

Yeah. I could have damaged the pins in the cables. Those ribbon cables are very thin. I plugged in the old mem modules and no change. I think I might have damaged the cables but then again my trackpoint is not working. I did not take the keyboard out so I'm a bit stumped. I plugged a mouse in and th...

Ultranav not working. Help.

Hey y'all This is a Z61p I decided to upgrade the memory today to 4GB. I had to take the palm rest off in order to perform the upgrade. After the upgrade I boot up and login. Now my tackpoint and touch pad is not working. I made sure all ribbon cables are snug and tight. The keyboard works normally....

What year did IBM made their final thinkpad at a factory in the US?

Also, is there any good thinkpad time line website?
