Re: Installing Windows 8 on a X200 advice please.

It maybe too late now but why not upgrade using the Internet upgrade path from Microsoft?
Saves a whole bunch of headaches, at least it did for me on my X200 tablet.

Re: How long in average does it take for x220 to comletely boot?

Without question get Windows 8. The speed of the new OS coupled with the upgrade
price of $40.00 (in the US) make it a no brainer.
Luckily there are free start button add-on programs available for the desktop which
make it pretty much a Windows 7 machine except faster.

Re: How long in average does it take for x220 to comletely boot?

Uncheck ALL startup programs in msconfig and reboot and see if that makes any difference. The OS re-install you did, was it from the restore partition or from an OS CD? If it was from the restore partition, then Lenovo adds a ton of 'stuff' that you don't necessarily need. Disable your anti virus an...

Re: How to turn on Bluetooth

That's exactly what happened to my x200 tablet with the latest version of the hot key software. You need to to find an older version (maybe for XP?) and install it. Then activate it through a shortcut in Explorer. Regardless, it will only display in the desktop mode but the old versions of hot keys ...

Re: How to turn on Bluetooth

On my x200 tablet the latest Hot Key software no longer works at all. Even when it did it just went to the Metro change PC settings window but you need to have Bluetooth on to see it there. The only way around I found was as I wrote above. The file in question is tpFnF5.exe and it works like a charm...

Re: How to turn on Bluetooth

That's a rough one because Fn + F5 probably doesn't work on your X200T and unless it's turned on there is probably no listing for blue tooth in the Metro PC settings screen either. At least that's the case on my X200T. Unfortunately I'm doing this from memory since I'm at work now but my fix was as ...

When used in tablet form, the pop out keyboard was always and easily accessable.

Tablet virtual keyboard gone?

I just noticed that the pop out keyboard in other versions of windws is no longer on the side of the screen. There is the touch keyboard on the taskbar but am I correct in that the pop out version isn't supported in Win 8? If that's the case I have found some aftermarket keyboards that kind of do th...

Re: Suggest power manager installed for Win8 on X301

Did you try the 'Change PC settings' (I think it's called) in the right side shut down slide out pane? There are many items in there including a somewhat rudimentary Win 8 power manager. My X200T seems to last a long time, using the basic laptop settings, even with a 4 cell battery. Until Lenovo get...

Re: x220 Tablet 3 Cell Battery.

I hated the 6 cell on my X200T and got a 4 cell to replace it.
It wasn't that easy to find as the aftermarket doesn't seem to
think copying the 4 cell is worth the effort so the only option at
least in the US is new or used, and both options are pretty expensive.

Re: Touch screen accuracy Win 8

It took a while but I finally seem to have nailed the touch accuracy difficulty I was having. The problem was that on my x200T, wherever I touched the screen caused an action about 3/4 of an inch away. Not a problem for much of the time except I couldn't close a program by tapping the red X in the c...

Re: A request for general feedback on Windows 8...

I installed a 2G chip of turbo memeory along with the Win 7 drivers. I found that under Windows 8 the startup times slowed by quite a bit but programs seemed to open faster but only by a fraction. So I used the Lenovo Remove Turbo Driver to get rid of it. I left the memory in the laptop and now ever...

Touch screen accuracy Win 8

As I wrote in my previous post everything I need to work, works as well if not better, than it did in Windows 7. The one gripe I have is the accuracy or lack of it, of the touch screen on my X200 tablet. It is impossible for me to close a program by tapping the red X in the upper right corner. The a...

Re: A request for general feedback on Windows 8...

I have nothing but praise for Windows 8. Boot times in the 25 second range with an SSD and 2G turbo memory, on an X200 tablet of all things! Why the turbo memory made a difference I don't know as no drivers were added! In my very unqualified opinion Windows 8 seems to be 2 operating systems in one. ...

I still think the Thinkvantage Hot Key install (or lack of it!) is the answer or one answer to getting these cards to work. I'm not familiar with the Ericsson card but if the card and blue tooth show OK in Device Manager then all you need is to get Hot Keys working. No easy feat but it will have to be done. Yes, using a nail is better than the tip on the finger but I'm still suffering along with poor accuracy. My screen ...

Did you try Windows 7 drivers? If necessary go back as far as XP and use the comptability mode. I have an X200 tablet which is only just capable of Windows 8 yet I have everything I need working by using a combination of drivers. I even got the Qualcomm HS-USB WAN recognized, although I don't have a...

Re: SD slot driver for X200?

Turns out that, at least for me, a driver was needed for Windows 7 (32bit). The SD card slot is called Ricoh R5U880 Flash Media and the Microsoft driver is from June 21st '06. A Google search revealed that HP has a driver for Win 7 and it's the same one used for Vista and maybe XP since we're talkin...

Proof that a little knowledge is indeed a dangerous thing! I thought the large slot on the side was an old PCMCIA slot. It is the express card slot as you said. So I'm back to square one. Yes I did. But I have since found out that this is an 'express card' slot

Re: Putting an OS on SSD

Because my USB/SATA adapter appears to be faulty the drive that's outside the machine can't be seen, that's why I'm using the more convoluted route of attaching both to my desktop. There are 3 partitions on the original drive so If I ever need to restore then I'll need to duplicate them. But I think...
