WTB: X201 lower chassis with main board

I'm seeking to repair/replace an X201s which was water damaged. The display and keyboard are probably OK, don't need those. I prefer to use a 201 not 200 lower section, as the series is already old.

-Reparing X201s with X201 non S

Chiclet keyboards. No latch. 16:9 ratio. Ugly TN screens and poor res IPS screens. Doesnt have the premium feel. With X201 (non-s) you're getting performance - not loosing it. Lower chassis of X201 is like 2mm thicker. That's it. Swapping a lid is super-easy. How is this repair done? Does it mean "...

Re: Is it worth repairing a water damaged X201s?

The screen and keyboard are pretty likely to hit some reasonable prices. X201s had only WXGA+ LED option available. You actually could get a X201 or X200 chassis and remount the LCD; this will be very cheap repair that leaves you most of the parts as spares. I have no idea where you are from, but m...

Re: What to replace an X201s with?

Well I have personally felt way to many differencies between X201 and X220, but this may be your shot. These are cheap machines nowadays. Or, go in for X230 w/IPS. EDIT: now I took a glimpse at your previous post. I am from a post-Soviet block where everybody was taught to repair not dump. I'd do t...

Re: What to replace an X201s with?

That (1) might be a problem, since the successors of the X201 are 12.5" 16:9 laptops, and the resolutions offered are 1366x768 or 1920x1080; I haven't seen any offerings in between (such as 1600x900, which would be roughly equivalent to your 1440x900). How does 1920x1080 work in such a small screen...

What to replace an X201s with?

Well, the machine in my last post has not come back, and at even one hour's shop time plus parts I suspect it would be uneconomical to repair. Best to replace, and let someone in need of spares use the chassis/screen/whatever. That machine is now old I'm not conversant on the many generations and va...

Re: Is it worth repairing a water damaged X201s?

Now it’s been a while since I’ve done even minimal fooling with hardware, So I have to ask some pretty basic questions.
What type of SATA to USB device/adapter/cable do I need?
About how much is the machine minus the SSD worth? “Not much” is my guess, but I don’t actually know. No sentimental value.

Is it worth repairing a water damaged X201s?

I have an X201s which I'm managed to kill. I absent-mindedly placed a cold pack at freezer temp on it the bottom while it was resting on its lid. That (obviously) created a fair amount of condensation, which went through the various vent holes and into wherever. Yes, that was a senior moment. :BAAAD...

Re: Can an X61T be upgraded to a useful extent?

Thanks all! Respones: " LED back-light kit for brighter viewing" I didn't know that was possible. I have the 1400x900 screen, without that I'd have no use for the machine. It IS a dim display, washes out even indoors near a window. SO, how do I do that? Special tools needed, or just screwdrivers? "T...

Can an X61T be upgraded to a useful extent?

I have an X61T, factory CPU 1.6ghz "core 2 duo L7500". It has an SSD, that helps a bit. It is functionally obsolete, but in physically excellent condition, but I like the solid feel it has and would like to keep it around for casual use, if it can be accelerated by about 50%. I know it'll still be u...

How to reload tablet drivers for X61T?

The tablet functions for my X61T ceased to work properly after a W7 to W10 upgrade (the thing auto-started, couldn't cancel it) and rollback some time ago. It's now more-or-less-mostly working in W7, but the tablet functions are not all there. How do I reload those? I do not have the original instal...

Recovery sets only do a complete fresh install, no repair-install. Benchmark the speed of your SSD, if you have Middleton already, it should be 200MB/s or better. I ran the AS SSD benchmark, which produced a set of 6 results spanning from 16 to 160 MB/s, and an error message on completion. Does tha...

Install Middleton's BIOS, then find any Lenovo W7 recovery set and install that. It will automatically activate. Problem solved. K, that sounds good. You need to recover the product key for the installed version. I use a utility called Winkeyfinder. http://www.winkeyfinder.com/ There are several such utilities that can do this. Once you get the full product key, save it. If it is a retail Windows 7 product key, Microsoft should accept it. thx --...

O/T (for X61T) How to unblock a Windows key?

I have an X61T which was upgraded to W7 prior to my acquiring it. It is not, afaik, in any way using bootleg, hacked or cracked software. Somewhat impulsively, I tried Windows 10. No advantage on this machine, so I rolled back. I did not have a disk image to restore, I used the W10 trial inbuilt rol...

What are you looking to spend? As much as necessary, not more. While I could spend $200, I suspect that 70% of that would be wasted. I'll second checking the wake-on LAN settings. Had this problem once with an X300 which was solved by disabling the "wake on Link" in the network adapter's advanced settings (as I recall). Might be worth checking BIOS settings as well. Wish you well, as it was very frustrating for me until solved. ...
