Re: PSA: nVidia equipped T61/p can overclock LCD

Maybe this is just me, and I'm not so technically inclined, but isn't there an upper limit on the amount of bandwidth LVDS can deliver? Wouldn't 120hz mean double the bandwidth?

SXGA upgrade question

I've made a search but most of the posts were about installing SXGA inside X61, but I'm using an X61T mobo inside an X61 chassis. 1. Does it need a BIOS flash to support the SXGA panel? 2. The panel is N121X5-L06 but I'm not sure if I have the right cable -- does the SXGA cable work with XGA? I can'...

That looks great in my opinion -- very much a portable machine. It looks like a combination of the X60 and X301.

I'd definitely be worreid about things like temperature and battery life. At that size it has quite the room for quite a nice slice battery.

Re: Why do i want a 10 year old thinkpad ?

I did have the regular TP240. Somebody threw in a 512mb stick of PC133 RAM and sure enough it was having all kinds of bsod when I first got it. Turned out the 512mb stick was actually also dead so I replaced it with a factory max of 128mb stick That's quite a bit of RAM for an old machine. 8GB stil...

Re: Why do i want a 10 year old thinkpad ?

It is likely that you do not. However I don't think it can be said in good faith that older thinkpads are worthles -- I personally use an X61s which is more than sufficient. But usually my recommendation would be a *20 series, or a *50 series. Man, wish i had a thinkpad when i was in school, i did a...

Re: Best classic traveling companion?

Edit: We may have talked before, message me to confirm if this is the case. Yep! But keep that a secret :) Are you sure you have the 2200 and not a 2100? The 2200 is a G card and shouldn't be THAT slow. The 2100 is only a B card, and is really slow. To be honest, that one was the best I found. If y...

I dropped the idea for now. Was really looking forward to trying an 240, but eh.

By the way, is there any better wifi card than the intel 2200 PRO for those machines? The PCMANIA wifi cards makes me feel like I'm using a dongle..

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

I run 9front on my X61, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. There's just too much software that's incompatible with it. I honestly recommend you stick to ubuntu, unless you plan to learn the command line, which is a worthwhile although tedious task at times. If you're interested, The Linux Com...

Best classic traveling companion?

My research indicates that 240Z or 570E might the best ones. Performance is not a concern, battery life is more important. Issues are: I'm using my X61s as reference. I assume both are quite rare. (expensive?) I know nothing about the battery life. Quality panels? Both have UXGA, TN for 240Z and E-I...

Re: What are the pitfalls of an X301?

Still another option, would be keep the x61s but overhaul your software -- review the software you use and either find more effecient software or optimize the software you have. I'm on a fullscreen mode most of the time. I guess my best bet would be an SXGA LED, but I have a feeling I'll have "good...

What are the pitfalls of an X301?

Been looking to try a new laptop; curious about the X 00/01 thinkpads. Here's something I can think of: 1. Batteries. Both the inside and the bay one. A T400s might be better in this regard; but I assume it'll suffer the same issues. 2. Panels. I'll admit to being greedy by looking at this (https://...

I'm on it, but it's not easy. I'm trying to use Lattice Crosslink with the OpenLDI/LVDS to MIPI DSI IP as an adaptor.
Sweet. Does the lid require modding? That would be my first practical concern.

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

There goes my dream for an SXGA/QXGA 61 X/T thinkpads.. :( If I ever do find one, do you do the whole removal + LED installation? It goes against my DIY ethic but experience shows that knowing your limits is more important than hoping to get stuff done right. By the way, what are your thoughts about...

Re: 51nb 8th generation intel x201 motherboard

I personally decided against buying the mobos, mainly because of availability. If it goes poof, it's just not worth it. A used 20/30 generation or 61 if you prefer a good panel is the better choice. A lot of people do love them though. Still, I imagine it's more for the great keyboard and the 4:3 pa...

Re: X6X-series LED backlight conversion kit howtos

Is it practical to do a LED mod for the HV150UX1 panel? Or is it better to buy
an HV150UX2 and just do the inverter mod?

Is a LED mod worth it for the 1920x1200 screens out there, too?

Money isn't really an issue, I'm looking mainly at technical specifications.

You might like 51nb's X210. It's a completely new mobo with new CPUs, DDR4 and all that stuff. Fits inside the X200/201.

Have fun.

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

In all fairness, your best bet is 3D printing and sharing the files. I don't know how precise 3D printers are, and how economically viable it is, but if you can take an existing mobo and just a more fluid base then you can make.. practically everything. But then we're still limited on screens and av...

Wow, this thread really got derailed by quite an aspect.. I can see where people are coming from though. Anyway, it looks nice but on my budget I think a T420 is simply better value. Not that there's anything bad about my X61s. Honestly, they should've just hired the 51nb guys and made a poll about ...
