Re: T420s/T430s WQHD kits pre-order

I got my mod kits but I don't have the screen yet. I'm going to wait and see how long it takes for those new X1C screens to shake out. Is the FRU bom even up yet? No but we've waited long enough already. If I get the one screen and the Extra Nice screens that are better in every way come out a mont...

Another interesting option might be the 500 nit, 100% Adobe RGB panel from the new X1C.
Does anyone have any information on this panel? Is there a Maintenance manual out for X1C 6th gen?

Hi Nitrocaster, I'm still enjoying my mod, even though I messed up the sense wire. I've finally put the effort in to patch my kernel and I get so much more battery life, and now I can't screw myself over when I use xrandr to use an external display and accidentally lock myself out of no display with...

Re: T430s broken ethernet port

So from the pictures I can find online, I think the t430 uses the same ethernet jack as the t430s -- and the t430s puts the ethernet jack on a cheap sub board! I'll buy one for $5 and see if it fits. I'd bend that left metal bit back in, check that it still works (or works again) and holds the cable...

Wifi?
Sure I will use wifi 99% of the time. But I would also like to fix the ethernet port as well.

When you are doing a multi-hour full disk backup over ethernet and the ethernet cable slowly slips out over the course of the backup and finally loses connection, it's pretty irritating.

Ok, I managed to carefully scrape away some mask on the trace and soldered a single strand to it. No more glitches!

Last question -- for the kernel patch, is there a way to apply it to more recent kernels, or is everyone using the patch sitting on 4.1.3?

Re: X220 FHD Upgrade?

Really, you should solder a tiny jumper wire instead of that huge one. It's not meant to be like that. As for the sense wire - it's not required if you install kernel patch to enable brightness control in single display mode. So everything seems to work fine, brightness control and all. I'm just ge...

Improving x220/x230 speakers

Let's be honest. The worst thing about old thinkpads is the terrible quality and volume of the speakers. Before my x230, I had an ideapad y50, and I was absolutely blown away by the JBL speakers it came with. Has anyone thought about putting some higher quality speakers in the x220/x230 and maybe ev...

Clip and raspberry pi. I didn't have much trouble with it.

I used the AC + wake on lan method of powering the EEPROM, I didn't power it with the raspberry pi 3.3v.
