Re: T450 add M.2 SSD and Dual Boot Win10/Linux?
Yes, you can install it to the M.2 no probs and dual boot. You could also just partition your existing drive to make a new partition for Linux alongside Windows so you wouldn't need to get an M.2 drive. Might as well get an SSD though, these days. I run an M.2 drive with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 19 and ...

Re: Battery connector replacement
Have a look at the battery where those pins meet. It's possible one or more of the contacts in there are spread and aren't making as good a contact as they once did.
Does it still shutdown if you hold the battery in and move the machine around?

Re: Raspberry pi in an old Thinkpad
Why a Pi Zero in particular though? A 3B+ is still tiny relative to an old thinkpad and its more powerful than the Zero W. You could even fit one of the more powerful LatePanda or O-Droid SBC's in there instead. Somewhere like Sudomod.com might be a good resource for you. They're not exactly making ...

Re: Battery rebuilder for 24V unit, in Toronto, Canada?
If it's very heavy like ya say, then it may be an old lead acid battery inside a case of some sort. Take some pics of the battery and some measurements too. It may be a simple case of getting a generic drop-in replacement. I do hope that's the solution, my mum would like to keep her mower! The batt...

What do you see in the BIOS screen? Are you locked out of the BIOS?
It's usually 3 tabs to the right under "Boot/Boot priority" or something to that effect. You'll be able to set which device you want to boot from by default.

I've done it. It's pretty straightforward and with a little heat from a heat gun or even hair drier, it'll come off no probs.

Re: Parts upgrade questions on T430
By the time you buy the relevent screen and display cable and shipping, you'll be half way towards the cost of the FHD upgrade. Have you considered doing that instead? I've heard the FHDs have an issue with flickering. I've heard that too, of older kits but there's a few reports both here and on Re...

Re: Thoughts on convertible laptops ?
Sounds like a decent Android tablet would be ideal for you. They're very well optimized for the kind of use you describe and can be very power efficient. A dedicated laptop sounds like it would be a lot more capable than you actually require and won't be as comfy to use while in bed etc without rest...

Re: T420 -> always on USB -> sleep -> crash
The always on port on those is on a removable board, seperate to the motherboard. You could try renabling it and disconnect pysically to see if it still gives you probs.
Replacements are pretty cheap online, if the board/port is the cause.

Thanks for the reply TankPad. I've only ever used the desktop type. You just push the new one down into the slot. No connector with wires. It doesn't have to be Lenovo (they don't actually make them). Pretty much any CMOS battery will do, so long as you get the right connector, or you could transplant the connector from you wasted one.

The last thing I thought would be a problem is to get payments from people who placed pre-orders. I have about 70 kits ready for shipping and people just ignore their invoices. Start Windows in safe mode, then you can uninstall the old driver. It should boot fine though. I've done it myself a few times.

Re: W530 - the display is too yellow and saturated
2 separate screens can actually look very different even with the same profile, so there's no real alternative to calibrating the screen. There are links out there to help you get it done manually, but it takes a bit of patience to get it right.

I Second that.
Can you get your hands on a calibration tool?
My T430S looked like it was constantly on bluelight filter until I calibrated it. Makes a huge difference.

Wow, that was GLUED on? It looks like the solder traces have been torn from the board too.
Those wires that aren't connected are for a WWAN card. They really should be insulated if not in use though.

It's not going to be limited to just Samsung notebooks. Maybe that's a typo or something. It matches your specs and I'm pretty sure one of my own machines has exactly that RAM installed too.

I've seen a couple of them with Intel SSD's in them, though they weren't brand new at the time so I can't be sure they were original drives. The machine does have an m.2 slot though, that'll take an SSD, even though Lenovo don't officially say so.

1600*900 is indeed the higher res screen option. For the kind of money you're talking though, maybe you could look at some newer ThinkPads with FHD or higher.

Re: Reccomendations for a new laptop - T430, worth in 2018?
Hey. Depends where you are really, as to what is a good price. For me though, it's a little on the expensive side. Aim for the higher resolution screen option, particularly if you're coding. You can flash the EC to use generic batteries too, so they'll work out a lot cheaper, if your budget is tight...

No, Bluetooth is not at all bad for you. It's short range, lower powered radio that operates within the same frequencies as many other common electronics around you (WiFi, remotes etc). The fact that you are conscious of Bluetooth is merely a result of the use case, playing sound. When you're not pl...
