Re: Tell me about your T420 cooling fan!

Oh, I must have missed that and just assumed you were using Windows. How do the grills on the base of the laptop look? Did you clean them also? I've found this can make a big difference. There's a kinda mesh dust filter stuff in them and it's often clogged up, reducing airflow. If you're not getting...

Re: Tell me about your T420 cooling fan!

Good to hear you're back up and running. I would never just rely on blowing a fan clean. In my experience, most of the time there's gonna be a lot of tightly packed dirt in there that isn't going anywhere without a complete disassembly. Have you tried using ThinkPadFanControl to boost the fan up to ...

How much ram do you have and what type of drive? If you go to the performance monitor, does the memory and disk usage seem high too?

You could also look into different manufacturers.

I have a 19v 65w AC adapter from an Asus laptop that is nice and compact. The power jack is different but you could either cut it off and replace, or use an adapter to convert it.

The stock ThinkPad 65w is quite compact itself though.

Did you actually open the fan housing when you had it out? Maybe there's a build up of dust in there.
Make sure the intake vents on the underside of the machine are clear also. I like to give them a good going over with a toothbrush and it makes a big difference.

I couldn't imagine being without a laptop really. I read somewhere recently that laptop sales have actually seen a jump in rece...

Try setting to "Manual" so that the service can still be started if its needed. In the Task manager, go to the "Services" tab and at the bottom of the pane you'll see a link to "Open Services" or something like that. You can get to it through "Administrative Tools" too. You can right click a service...

I also bought this screen from Wikiparts on ebay UK a couple of days ago and it works perfectly. It didn't have a brand listed on it and It did require a bit of calibrating, as it had a slight yellowish hue to it but other than that It's been great. No flickering or any artifacts etc. There was a li...

Re: Suggestions for an android phone

It's gonna have to be a flagship if you want great cameras. The Galaxy S8 is really good in that sense, although the battery isn't that great (3000Mah). Maybe you would consider using a battery case on pretty much any of the current top flagships? If not, the Xiaomi Mi Mix also has a pretty decent ...

Hi guys. I'm looking at buying an i5 X220 with IPS and also found an i7 mobo (2640M). I would like to know if the mobos are a direct drop-in, or other mods are required? Never been much a fan of the numeric keypad myself either. I'd much prefer a classic 7 row layout keyboard (even if they stick with chicklet) and maybe some programmable macro keys.

Just run a magnet over the area where the sensor is located and see if the screen responds. If it does then you will likely just need to reposition the original magnet. It's pretty straightforward with the maintenance manual.

Yeah that's pretty much what a custom ROM will do for you. I took a quick look over on XDA and it's doable without doing any complicated stuff. The most important bit is to get a custom recovery on there. That way you can flash any roms you like.

Are we talking about doing this with the fan in place? If so,I wouldn't do this either. The likelihood of the it getting on the axle shaft is very slim and in the process, you'll get it all over the inside of the fan housing, possibly giving dust something to stick to. I prefer to remove the fan and...
