Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

Oh I can pop them in and out easily enough. I think it's due to the gap around the screen being quite tight in the lid. I opted to keep the rubber bumpers on the sides of the bezel so I still have room to trim, if needed.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

Couldn't find the right cable so I chained 2 of those . Works great, no interference. Ahhhh I see. So that's what you meant by switchers then. I ended to just adding in cable to make the original one longer. Works great now. I cut the bezel with a craft knife and metal rule, then finished with a di...

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far

Hey Boutch,

How did you solve the cable length issue when using the W11 screen?
I ordered 3 W15's and they've all arrived as W11's instead, so obviously the connector is on the far side.

Cheers.

Re: X230 Fan Noise Windows 10

Why are you buying a fan straight off? Have you confirmed that the temperatures are actually getting high? Also, that it is not software related? Fan is whining right now, and TPFan control is reporting 69 (C) and fan at 3754 RPM. CPU is fluctuating around 33% with nothing spiking. 33% is a lot if ...

You have to strip it indeed, but it's actually quite friendly to work on.
Have you confirmed that there's no processes that are hogging the CPU and causing the excessive temps?

Re: Anyone Ever Removed the Dark Spots that stickers Leave Behind????

Once you've removed the glue, it'll blend back in itself before long. It's just that the plastic is a little fresher under the stickers. I did it with one of my machines about 3-4 weeks ago (I don't use it that much) and the mark is almost impossible to see now.

Thanks for the info. I can't seem to find the same screen as you without it being a gloss panel. I'll keep an eye on ebay. Edit: I did a little bit more research into the panel I mentioned previously from the ideaPad 710s. It seems it's model number LQ133m1jw15 and looks like the connector is in the...

Re: Two X220's one hot one cool

Good to hear you got it back up and running. It would be a good idea to give it a thorough cleaning now, before it happens again and risks damage to the system though. That silicone oil could actually give all the dust something to stick to. I'd remove the fan blade and lube the shaft inside too, j...

Re: Two X220's one hot one cool

Actually when switching on the hot one today, I get 'FAN ERROR'. I took off the keyboard sprayed some silicone lubricant on the fan and blew through the grill but it made no difference. Do I really need to replace the fan? Some silicon oils are conductive so I'd strongly advise against just sprayin...

Re: Two X220's one hot one cool

Check the task manager and see if the hot one has something hogging the processor.
You could even try switching the hard drives too and see if the problem stays or switches to the other machine.

It could also be dirt in the fan or old, flaky thermal paste.

It's actually really smooth underneath. Its for this reason I actually find it too grippy/sticky. It's much less so when using the stippled sticker. http://i.imgur.com/jgQABbM.jpg In any case, you can apply any kind of sticker you like in its place. Why not just peel it off? It's perfectly smooth underneath. People have replaced the stock sticker with a flat one that you can find online. I have seen worn trackpads on this generation and they look very bad :P . Do you have a link to this "flat" sticker? I can't find anything like that for sale a...

This is one I changed not too long ago. I think it was a T420. The original looks disgusting! The touchpad is really smooth underneath but I find its too grippy. No probs. I'll take some pics when I have one apart. Its really straightforward though. There's plenty of guides out there for removing the hinge and once you have that out, its just a matter of separating the two pieces (just pull them apart) and packing it before pushing it back together. Right no...

You could even peel off your old one and stick it on the new one. They're made from some pretty tough vinyl.

Defo fix it yourself. It's actually quite straightforward. If it goes wrong, then you can just get new ones. Not sure If I have any pics of the last time I did it but I'll have a look. Re: Help/advice needed: T430s Loose hinge?

This is caused by wear in the bushing rather than any nuts loosening. You can fix it though, instead of replacing them. You'll have to remove the hinge and separate the 2 parts. Then you can stick some cable or wire in the hole where the barrel came out of before reassembling it. The cable acts as a...

Not sure how useful it is to you, but I was given an ideaPad 710i the other day with a 1080p IPS screen that was quite nice. The screen is really thin and flexible so it might lend itself better to being shoehorned into an X330. I haven't looked in great detail at the specs but it seems to be a 30pi...

Re: Tell me about your T420 cooling fan!

Oh, I must have missed that and just assumed you were using Windows. How do the grills on the base of the laptop look? Did you clean them also? I've found this can make a big difference. There's a kinda mesh dust filter stuff in them and it's often clogged up, reducing airflow. If you're not getting...
