Re: Sound dead on A20m: options?

Yup. Says there's a sound chip. Says the drivers are working properly. Tried on Windows 98se and 2000 Pro with all the drivers I could find. Nothing.

Sound dead on A20m: options?

Hi, all. I have an A20m I picked out of the trash (with another old Thinkpad that's 100 %), but the A20m doesn't have sound. I've tried installing drivers on Windows 2000 and Windows 98SE, but no dice. I think it's dead, Jim. No beep on boot, no sound in Windows, no sound through the headphone or li...

Re: help me find a Thinkstation/Thinkserver

Trying to think of a computer for $150 that would be able to run video rendering on a virtual machine faster than video rendering on a straight 2015 Macbook Pro, but I really can't. I don't think $150 is enough (hence the lack of suggestions). For $600 you could probably scrape together an i5 Skylak...

My Thinkpad family portrait: (front, from left) A 380xd with 98 SE and 96 MB of RAM for my late DOS games, an A20m in the middle of being blown out and getting a fresh copy of 2000 SP4, (rear, from left) an A31 with 2 GB of RAM and XP Pro SP3 for my early 2000s gaming, and a T420i (with an upgrade t...

Re: Recovery Media for IBM ThinkPad S30?

I usually have to track down an ISO for a retail version of whatever OS I want and then I burn to CD. Then I keep a flash drive around for the sole purpose of putting drivers on newly-installed computers. Something I've noticed: The longer someone has something, or the more times it changes hands, t...

Re: WiFi 802.11g for Thinkpad 380xd?

Hmm. I was hoping to avoid B for speed reasons, but I'm seeing that tracking down something with the right drivers might be a PITA... I think I'll go with Ethernet for now and go wireless by biding my time on eBay or wherever... But for days I don't feel like running Ethernet everywhere, a B is stil...

WiFi 802.11g for Thinkpad 380xd?

Hi, all. I'm seeking a wireless card for my new-to-me 380xd. It has a Cardbus interface, and I just finished getting 98SE sorted on it, so I guess I'm trying to find a Cardbus with a Windows 98se driver available. I want it mostly for transfer of files from other computers through my network, instea...

Re: Long time after: USB stick problems on W98

Have you tried http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php ? That's what I use on my 380XD with 98SE. I have a 1GB stick I use just for that computer. I installed the software, restarted, plugged in the stick and selected the driver. Slow as molasses (because that computer is USB 1.0, aft...
