Re: Everyone needs a classic IBM ThinkPad running MS-DOS + Windows 3.11

Thanks for the compliments. The 600/E/X have rear docking ports too. I'd call it a stepping stone between the 770 and the T20 in terms of IBM design. I believe the 600 series was the last ThinkPad to have a slider for brightness. Speaking of 770s, I took a risk on this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/1...

Re: Hello! I bought a Thinkpad 240 from the Car Boot

Your machine is in great condition, congrats on the find. Trying to use the machine without a CD-ROM or floppy is a pain and in most cases I was stuck with using my PC with one of those 2.5 IDE adapters. An alternative is if you have an older laptop with a CD drive you can swap the hard drive, copy ...

Re: Thinkpad 365 powers on but no LCD. Worth buying?

Despite what 8-bit guy says about screens larger than 640x480, some 800x600 machines actually have reasonable scaling. His video mostly focused on the Compaq LTE machines which do not have any screen scaling capability. On the other hand, machines like IBM Thinkpads and Pentium-era Toshiba's have a ...

Re: The official 755 Upgrade and general information Topic

My unit didn't come with a CD-Drive so I can't speak from experience but I've seen a few comments online complaining about the drives inability to read discs over time. Considering the machine (and most likely the drive) are 22+ years old, I would not be surprised if this was the case. One last thin...

Re: Thinkpad 755CD(V) CD-ROM Not being read.

What happens if you use a regular (non-burned) CD?

The official 755 Upgrade and general information Topic

There are at least 10 different threads on the first page of the Legacy Hardware forum regarding the 755-series Thinkpads, many of them about the 755CD machines. Maybe we can start a general topic thread like we have for the 600 and 770 series machines?

Re: Thinkpad 755CD(V) CD-ROM Not being read.

Are you trying to read a CD-R disk? Most CD drives from that era won't read CD Recordables. I have two 8x drives that fit an 755CD (from a 760EL) and only one (which was made in April 1997) is capable of reading CD-R discs.

Re: 755CDV Drivers?

For the 755CD (and older machines) I ended up checking out archive.org's copy of the Thinkpad Driver Matrix from 2003 here: https://web-beta.archive.org/web/20030808164837/http://www-3.ibm.com:80/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=DSHY-3PLMY2 Unfortunately the actual files weren't archived but ...
