I am using Fedora11 on my X301 and it runs very fast. All devices are recognized, standby/hibernation works quite well with a 2GB swap partition.
Was really keen on using KDE 4.2 as it looks awesome but wasn't stable enough for me and so I switched to Gnome where most Fn keys work as well.

I had the same problem a while ago and it was very annoying. I managed to get around it by removing the associated device, it's drivers and reinstalling the drivers manually.

After that it never bothered me again.

i think it should be ok, just make sure you did not apply to much AS5. Undervolt the CPU if you want to drop the temps a little bit more.
