Re: Now I can confirm it really does exist - revised T61p motherboard!

I can almost hear the choir singing Hallelujah ~! Great find. :D Thanks. For the moment I felt like a child on Christmas. Great find! Is that really an FX570M on a 44C3931 native Penryn motherboard? Thanks! I'm positive on that - 44C3931, native Penryn, fx570m - loaded. Great find, for d*** s...

Re: Thinkpad T60 SSD upgrade FAIL

You're welcome. Concerning the hard drive or SSD, it's a quirk of mine, but I prefer to install SSD's from later-model ThinkPads, up to the T440/T540. I'm currently using two OEM Lenovo-Samsungs. one an MZ7TD1280 (p/n 45N8424), the other an MZ7TD2560 (p/n 45N8426). Those are PM840/840 generation an...

Re: ThinkPad T61 Intel Graphics Windows 10 (1903) general lag

That god forsaken start menu lag and in general laggy UI is one of the major reasons why I give up on Windows 10. I like the GUI to open and be usable instantaneously, none of this baby talk "Getting your updates ready" and rotating dots without a progress or percentage bar and no verbosity. Zero i...

Re: ThinkPad T61 Intel Graphics Windows 10 (1903) general lag

My findings resulted in turning off the fancy effects of the windows and its made the experience smoother. I've taken old builds into account and the fact it is a 12yr old machine, but knowing my other laptops that are from the same era, Windows 10 1903 has been positive on my old Dell D830. I sold...

You're welcome. You're right, concerning flashing BIOS without a battery. I've done it before, and it's not all that hard, but I prefer to have a decent battery and flash by USB or CD. Simpler and easier. Concerning the hard drive, I suggest using SeaTools for DOS to run both the Short and Long tes...

1. Problem with hard drive. I ran the lenovo hard drive tool from the BIOS and it came back with an "Error 0000: Read Verification Failed." 2. Outdated BIOS. My T60 has a BIOS from 2006. I understand that the latest version is 2.27 from 2011. I read on this blog: https://richardg867.wordpress.com/ ...

Re: Thinkpad T60 SSD upgrade FAIL

Hi, I wanted to revive this thread, because I anticipate having similar issues. Also, I would have liked to be allowed to flash the BIOS with just the power cord and have the risk be on me. The computer is 13 years old at this point, and I don't know if I want to sink more money into it with a new ...

The ThinkTrain stops for no one   :D True, that. I have only two now but I've had as many as 9 at one time. I've had a number of other laptops over the years, and still have two Dells, but I always keep coming back to the older ThinkPads. So far, I've had T41, T42, T43, T61, T61p, Z61t, R...

this is brilliant. With Linux, I feel that I am in charge of the PC again - with all pros and cons. For the reasonable price you will pay for a used ThinkPad, it will smoke the garbage they are peddling at Walmart with single core CPUs, 4GB RAM and HDD for $300-400. I have two of them. One with Windows 7 Pro alone, the other with both Windows 7 Pro and Manjaro 18.0.4_stable MATE edition Linux. Bo...

The point is they look so good, so sturdy that one forgets how old they are, even my T43p looks like new, apart the legecy ports of course. Well, to anyone following the laptop trends, the design of these systems clearly screams "previous decade". True. True. They do. I don't much like an...

Re: How much can you undervolt your T61 gpu?

wujstefan overclocked his T61p with MSI Afterburner, and that is also possible on a factory stock BIOS. This is because of how the graphics chip's multiplier was never locked in the first place. Exactly :) I have also tried the same with nVidia inspector and riva tune. wujstefan mentioned he hadn't...

Re: How much can you undervolt your T61 gpu?

highsun did not modify the video-BIOS' graphics frequency settings, he only changed the graphics chip's core voltage. I don't think that there is anything you can modify in there, either. Ah, I see. The majority occasionally prefer and use Windows for overclocking, but not Linux or any other operat...

Re: How much can you undervolt your T61 gpu?

As far as OC, I think it's BIOS-limited somehow. (highsun T61-BIOS(1.0)_ASPM_OC). I enabled Coolbits in the nVidia X-Server settings, which enabled the Clock Frequencies settings, but every setting above the defaults of 475 and 702 on the 3D settings give me an error, "Failed to apply settings." *Edit. According to the documentation, one can underclock but not overclock in the Clock Frequencies settings due to "laptop thermal constraints", so it's hardcoded in.
I had no troubles overclocking on stock Lenovo bios.
May I ask how you did so?

Re: How much can you undervolt your T61 gpu?

Well it does make a difference if you load the chip. I've been tinkering with it some time ago and it seems that fx570m does accept a great deal of overclock in general. Truth. It does. I don't think I'll ever load it up, though. I'm no hardcore gamer. Just older games, movies, YouTube videos, gene...

Re: How much can you undervolt your T61 gpu?

T61p 16:10 do not accept undervolting well, but they do accept overclocking up to 620Mhz on core. To virtualize: it allows to double the 3d mark 06 score when compared to non-overclocked 4:3 fx570m. (NOTE: 128Mb version for whatever reason can't work stably when overclocked; tested on 4 units from ...

Nice find! I abused loved my T61p since I received it new in October of 2007, until I officially retired it in favor of the W520 I have in my sig. in early 2015. Aside from the well known GPU issue (which as many have said, with these being 11-12 years old now, that would be common with any system)...

No. It isn't. Had it had the WUXGA display installed, I'd have swapped in a WSXGA+, like I did with the other T61p I have. My eyes aren't as good as they once were, and 1680x1050 works best for me.
