Yep, I've had no trouble with Kubuntu and a Kingston SSD! Mine plays 1080p too! Won't quite strech any further, although gives it a good go!

T43 - Thinkfan & MX Linux

Has anyone ever got MX Linux and Thinkfan playing nicely? My T43 runs MX, and it's fantastic (2.13ghz 2gb RAM mSATA-ide hard drive) except the fan is on very fast all the time... Thinkfan is needed! Since MX is debian based, I found and started to follow this guide https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewto...

Thanks! Yes, it's quite lovely, and was a complete accident too! This will be the one that now doesnt really get much more done to it, as it works so well. The rest can be ongoing projects!

Here we go then, I'm home now! I was using the old girl at a McDonalds yesterday to cancel a new broadband order and I got a mixture of odd glances and a massive beaming smile from one chap, which made my day! Anyway, here we go! Once I get some nicer pictures of the rest I'll make a picture heavy p...

Re: ThinkPad Machine Type - Model lookup table *PIC*

I've just found this, what an amazing project! I'm trying to upgrade my T40 and T43 with a SXGA+ screen, and thanks to this have bought a 99p very ratty T43 with said screen fitted! Much cheaper than hunting out just the screen! (although knowing my luck it'll be in better condition than my existing...

Re: UltraNav SK-8845 Windows 8 drivers?

I was secretly hoping someone would reply soon and go "Ah, I fixed this last year, do X, Y & Z!" The problem I've found is all the threads with solutions are for either earlier versions of Windows 10, which has changed in the recent updates, or for Windows 8.1 etc. part of the problem is, because it...

My R500 has 3 vertical USB's on the LH side and the most yellow weak light I have ever seen as a think light! Have half thought about fitting an old t4x LED but then I remember I can't solder that well...

Re: UltraNav SK-8845 Windows 8 drivers?

My workaround is to knock the numlock back off when I've finished using it, but I forget, launch into an email and look up 10 minutes later to a scrap email! Maybe switch on the spell-checker in your email program? All those red-underlined words should ring alarm bells... Normally too late by the t...

Re: My Thinkpad R500

I'm at work so cant post the pictures but the new LCD cable came, and the screen is buttery smooth now, I am in awe every time I use it! Coupled with the 2.8ghz CPU I fitted at the same time whilst it was all apart to do the lcd cable swap and an install of Kubuntu it's lightning quick. Once I figur...

Re: UltraNav SK-8845 Windows 8 drivers?

My turn! I found, for a bargain price (£65 posted to the UK from china) an IBM Ultranav Keyboard SK8845, which I am using at work on my office PC! Now it does work, as in I plugged it in, and the volume keys work, the trackpoint works, trackpoint scroll works and the trackpad works. To all intents a...

Re: Thinking about buying a T42

Do like a nice t4x series! I have a T40 which runs XP SP3. My daughter has a good game of the original Rollercoaster Tycoon running on it and plays with it alot, it handles it just fine, barely spins the fan up unless she zooms right in and it has to show lots of detail. I've got a T43 which is very...

Gosh, so long since an update! I still have it, I'm typing this on it now! What has happened since my last post utterly ages ago? Well, it's had an ebay battery on it for a while, which has been very annoying, as the battery has 2 humps under it where cells sit, but this stops the laptop sitting fla...

My Thinkpad R500

Hi! I have so many updates to do, so thought I would start with a relativly new machine, my R500! The story begins that my T400 broke. I like to have a fairly modern device lying around, and the C2D T400 was filling the hole nicely, until the backlight broke on the screen. I threw a new inverter in ...

Re: T43 no more error 2010 (picture warning)

Another bump from the dead here! Does anyone happen to have a working download link to the T43 zip file? My last 'made from scrap parts' T43 is stuck at the 2010 and 1802 warning! I could grab a 'liked' wifi card from ebay, but the 2010 will be a pain as I will eventually put an SSD in the old girl!...

Small update. I bought a cheap ebay battery which nearly fits perfectly, but I can type this on it whilst sitting on the sofa! The CPU fan is really loud and rattly! I replaced the hard drive with a better one (does not rattle when shook etc..) which seems alot better And, earlier, I installed Linux...

I did it!

Went Gung ho and made a do's usb drive with Rufus and copied the files linked to earlier, booted, hit enter and it did it! Now have the Phillips wifi card it came with (and didn't boot with) and a 1.8ghz processor I bought fitted and it's very happy indeed!

Thanks all

In the post I do have 2gb RAM, an SSD kit and a better processor but I'm only 70% sure that'll fit. (I'll update my thread when that happens, some of it's coming from china etc) but I'll install some form of windows on it when it comes to properly test it, and see how that goes. i installed BunsenLabs linux on my T40 last night, and it's amazing! My T40 is stock at the moment still (T41 mainboard 1.6ghz 1gb RAM) and it browses the net like a champ, youtube almost works at 720p but most of all the CPU isn't maxed out even on idle. I even installed citrix receiver and logged ...
