Re: How To Remove ME, T400 For Libreboot ?

A little late of a response here, but Libreboot itself removes the ME. Instructions of flashing Libreboot itself are available at their website, libreboot.org.

Re: Thinkpad + Linux = I really want to learn !!

A not-very-unique opinion here, X200/X201 with Debian. Or X220. You can easily get an X200/X201 for $100 or less. Maybe X220 if you want a crusty beat up one. As for distro Debian to me has always felt like "vanilla" GNU/Linux. OP seems to have gotten a T400 which is also great. Honestly should be f...

Re: A31p display panel issues

Well you can go for a SHARP UXGa panel from Dell - I'm happy how it works and how it looks... and what it costs actually :) I was also able to install both ID-Tech IPS UXGA from T43p and Hydis Led UXGA into it, but these are more expensive options. Sharp will hit you ~$30-35 I guess. And it's a ver...

W530 Screen - FRU Number, Number of Pins?

Hello, I recently bought a W530 with 1080p high-gamut screen and, although the color looks fantastic, has a few pressure spots. I'm looking for a replacement but I'm not completely sure on which ones would be legit. I believe what I need is the 04W3471. Generic eBay auctions aren't very descriptive ...

In case y'all were still wondering, that is Bopomofo which is a phonetic system for Taiwanese Mandarin. So yes it's the Taiwanese keyboard.

Re: A31p - a decade later (LONG)

Just snagged the A31p quickly off of eBay recently. Being patient paid off, because I saw a few erroneously posted regular A31's for absurd prices. It's preaching to the choir to say how glorious the screen is, and how nice the aesthetics of it are in general. But yeah, don't think I'd be able to da...

Sorry for the late reply, here is the somewhat maintained fork of it. https://github.com/wolfgang-noichl/magick-rotation

You will need to compile it yourself, but there are instructions there. It just requires a little bit of command-line navigating but it worked perfectly on my X60t.

Re: what is the best linux distro for thinkpad x41 tablet?

Oh, nobody mentioned it already, but for writing (haha, using a tablet PC for writing) on GNU/Linux you can use CellWriter, and for screen rotation you can use Magick Rotation. They're a little clunky to set up I think but once you do it's just like it's supposed to be. The main issue on GNU/Linux w...

Re: The official 600 Upgrade and general information Topic

So wait, I have a 600 and it came with 64MB RAM. (32MB onboard + a 32MB stick). I had some 64MB PC100 sticks around and stuck it in, and it only amounts to 128MB. I am assuming that's because the onboard is PC66?

Re: What about Youtube videos on X60 ?

Guessing you plan to run GNU/Linux. On my X60, I have been able to play 1080p videos up to 10Mbps bitrate by using mpv and forcing it to use OpenGL ES with the config file. GMA 950 can use OpenGL ES 2.0. You can play YouTube videos with mpv with the aid of youtube-dl. In browser is a different story...

Re: X60 board in an X60s chassis?

I'm curious about all of this too, so thanks for making the thread. Considering what is mentioned in the second post, and from talking to other people, it's probably entirely up to the heatsink. Seen in this picture and in the one posted earlier, a normal X60 heatsink has a more fins at the exhaust,...

Re: Looking for a devil's advocate: why SHOULDN'T I move to Linux completely ?

Web browser, unix utilities, ssh, printing functions (CUPS), editors (vi), word processing (Lyx or LibreOffice), image manipulation (ImageMagic for automation / CLI or mtPaint for gui). If you are paying attention to this list many / most of these programs are not mainstream GNU/Linux stuff...my pe...

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62

Tangentially related question, I have a pair of X60s-es with spotty screens so I'm scouting for replacements. It's not just a drop-in replacement for IPS screens, is it? (Even with just the XGA one.) In this somewhat old guide for putting an IPS in non-Tablets, it mentions a converter cable is requi...

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

I currently am using Devuan (https://devuan.org/). They just released 2.0 which is based on Debian Stretch. Mostly recent, stable, and being basically Debian without systemd, it's very familiar. Runs great on all my machines.

Re: Laptops: Butchered in vain

Most of my dead computers were not my fault. I swear! I let someone borrow my T61 because they needed a computer, and I guess it was the little extra bump it needed to finally kill the GPU. They weren't very gentle with it, and it went kaput within three months. I bought a new palm rest and keyboard...

Re: what is the best linux distro for thinkpad x41 tablet?

I just loaded Xubuntu on my X41t just to have a workable machine. On most distros I use the tablet buttons on any of my ThinkPad tablets don't work by default. They send scancodes, but they aren't mapped to a keycode. The send the signal but the OS doesn't know what to do with it, basically. This is...

That looks like a French-Canadian keyboard, but there aren't labels for any of the French-specific keys. For example É is also where ? is on French-Canadian.

Re: What do you do with Linux?

I mainly use GNU/Linux on everything but my desktop, for everything that isn't video games and Autodesk AutoCAD. If Autodesk had a release for GNU/Linux I would probably be using GNU/Linux at work, maybe retaining Windows at home for when I get desperate and want to play something that doesn't work ...

Dell Dimension T-Series with a Pentium III, in 1999, I still remember the day my dad brought it home. I found it recently cleaning for a move, and it still worked! So I guess it has technically been in my possession for all that time, right? It had some pretty embarrassing stuff from when I was a ki...

Re: Which version of Linux to install?

If you are interested in something a little more in the vein of Arch but also a little different, Void is a very nice project. I have been having a good time with it. It starts up very swiftly, even on a 5400RPM drive. Only problem I've had with it is getting a display manager to work. On some lapto...
