Freshly installed win 7 64 bit on new SSD, can't update?
Just installed a new mSATA SSD drive to replace my crapping out X301 HDD. OS installed fine via CD (only windows 7, no sp). After the installation, I went directly to install thinkvantage system udpate and installed all the software updates there. Everything installed fine, including Intel AMT drive...

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread
And what preparation work I need to do before installing the drive? It's plug and play actually. Screw the mSata drive into the adapter, insert it in the bay and install the OS of choice. Although there is some minimal preparation. I use insulation tape to insulate the adapter. And also, why we are...

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread
And also, why we are using the mSata version SDD? Looks like the SATAIII version SDD is cheaper, and there are some adapters for SATA to micro SATA conversion? I do see those SATA drives on sale are in an enclosure most of the time, can we take the chip out and do the same with an adapter for X301?

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread
I think mSATA SSD with mSATA to SATA adapter is the way to go. First the newer generation SSDs are a bit faster and with a manufacturer warranty. Second, cost-wise, you are not really saving much by going with a 1.8" uSATA SSD. Apparently based on this thread, some of the 1.8" SSDs have compatibili...

x301 super slow boot up even after clean OS re-installation
My X301 boots up really really slow (up to 10 min) now. I tried clean install of win 7 pro 64bit but right after I started to install other software (think advantage stuff, office, firefox etc) it got back to the slow status. Symptom is, it hangs for about 5min at windows start up page, and after I ...

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread
I have this 2777MSU x301. Based on the replies here, this model should have better choices in terms of replacement ssd? Can you recommend a few and give me a rough idea how much would be a good price.
I saw toshiba one 45N7991 256G on ebay for $180-190, is it a good price?

Re: Anyone bought the ultraslim 90w combo adapter@Lenovo outlet?
There's no part number on mine. It just says Lenovo Combo Adapter. It does say scratch and dent. Perhaps it's just luck of the Irish or unluck in this case. Hmm, strange. Anyway, it should be on the top part of back plate of that adapter along with the name of manufacturer, power rating etc. Mine s...

Re: Anyone bought the ultraslim 90w combo adapter@Lenovo outlet?
I did not say it was new, but that it looked new. Mine was refurbished, but I don't recall if there was any sticker on the adapter or box saying so. Can you check your part number as well? And is there a way to check the warranty for such kind of accessory? Anyways, it might be me just too paranoid...

Re: Anyone bought the ultraslim 90w combo adapter@Lenovo outlet?
@FredGarvin How did you tell it's new? The adapter's part number on mine is 41R4538, which is actually labeled as "open box" in the database compared to the new item part number 41R4493. And did the box also have a "USED" sign taped? What's on yours? @Microspeed Did you contact their service before ...

This item: http://outlet.lenovo.com/accessories/power-adapters/78y1147.html This is my first time experience with Lenovo outlet, but for numerous time people were crazy about the cheap laptop sold at the outlet, and generally they claimed that the refurbished or scratch/dent conditions were usually ...

Noisy optical drive on X301, normal or not?
Guys, I just got my X301 last night. First thing I noticed is the noise from optical drive. During first boot up, the optical drive made kah-kah noise twice, and it did the same thing during wake-up. Quite noisy as well when reading or burning DVDs, even noisier than my old T43. Is this normal on th...

Any possible defects I should check upon receiving the X301
My new X301 will be here next Tuesday from Microsoft store. With only 14 days of return period, I really want to get any possible defects figured out and taken care of within such short time. This unit will replace my almost 4-yr old T43 so technically I'm not totally ignorant about Thinkpad, but I ...

This is so stange. I had the Fn+F* working until an hour ago when I uninstalled and reinstalled the Presentation director for a couple of times. Can we use Presentation Director on win7?
My laptop is an old 22668-76u T43. Installed win 7 RC and necessary thinkvantage software, so now my power manager works, access connection, and on screen hotkey display works. However, I tried to use presentation director 4.03, it sorta worked half way. Once it got duplicate output on laptop and ex...

I only want to know other's experience regarding battery capacity, if 3 wh drop in 2 cycles is pretty normal, then I'd leave it alone.

I may be able to ask IBM to exchage it if most people feel Sony is better. One of my friend who has some expertise in battery told me that based on their repair experience, sanyo is better than sony. New issue with Sony&Sanyo battery for T43 other than rat
OK, I did read a lot threads in the forum about the differences between Sony and Sanyo batteries. First I found both batteries rattle a little bit, but I found the full charge capacity of Sanyo decreased a bit even after only 2 charging cycles. Initially, the full charge capacity is larger than the ...

T43 new battery & AC are different from original
I just got the battery and AC adapter replacement for the in-warranty T43, but finding out the FRUs are not those I gave them in the phone (my original parts). The orginal battery is 92P1089 (SONY from China), but the new one is 92P1087(Sanyo from China); the old AC adapter is 08K8213 (made in indon...

And by the way, do I have to send the ...
