Re: 102-key American keyboard ("42T3744")?

For those wondering, it was both falsely advertised (2nd pipe key, the one next to Enter, was actually asterisk/apostrophe) and a dud (F5/F6/Delete not working); returned it and bought a "regular" American one a few weeks later from another seller, which works fine despite it being significantly ben...

Re: x201s with Windows 10

I would think so: 7 (and Vista) are what the X201 series was designed for (and rarely if ever do major upgrades of commercial OSes improve the overall experience for older users, in my opinion)... while 8, despite still having the same driver limitations I described above, introduced interesting cha...

Re: x201s with Windows 10

No, I mainly used LTSB (1604 ?) on the T61... and not for much, in part because of the constant tweaking and updating needed, but also because I dislike the new UI with barely 3 on-screen colors at any time :o I do have a NEC tablet (Atom Z3736F Cherry trail/2GB/64GB) I use occasionally with the new...

Re: x201s with Windows 10

Hotkeys: download and extract the 3.81.01 version (https://support.lenovo.com/it/en/downloads/ds014985 - scroll down!), enable Win7 compatibility on setup.exe, install "On Screen Display" only. Wireless card power settings will NOT save across reboots... Power Manager: download and extract latest ve...

102-key American keyboard ("42T3744")?

Hello again everyone! After my X201's keyboard broke (the 9OL. column doesn't work unless the flat cable is held bent in a specific way near the connector) I had to go back to the T61 (it's now almost 2 months, with no real regret if it wasn't for the 8+ dead pixels and plastic cracks it has...) so ...

X201 TPFanControl configuration

I have a question: is it possible to make the "Manual mode 1" lower RPM? At the moment it is 2845 RPM. On my other Thinkpads the lowest manual mode is around 1800-2000 RPM. Not really - well, not without a custom EC firmware, that's what translates 0-7, 64, and 128+temperatures to driving patterns....

Re: Any good 3rd party X200 batteries? *PICS*

My X201 came with one of these: https://komputerymarkowe.pl/notebooki-poleasingowe/727-lenovo-bateria-nowa-nbat-x200-6.html (Barcode on top says "NBAT-X200-6") It's not perfect (shuts off at approx.10%, flimsy eject button, poorly glued feet out of the box) but it's holding well after 2 months of us...

Re: x201 tablet core i7 slow boot

(For those still wondering, and those victim of Intel ME paranoia) Intel AMT, the (exploitable, on certain versions) remote control system built into VPro machines, is one of the many features of the Intel ME. ME is increasingly tightly integrated into systems, to the point that even if you can stop...

Re: missing components with spare wires inside?

still didnt explain on our TPs like if the SIM card module is only an interface for the WWAN card. Some models are "WWAN ready" meaning they have red+blue antennas and SIM slot but no actual cellular modem (no idea about back then, but today's LTE cards are over 120 dollars retail!), some don't hav...

Re: Feeler for X201 pricing

I paid 160 € (in person) for mine, which compared to yours has: a 6300 wifi card (3x3 version of the 2x2 6200 -- but this PC only has two antennas! I connected the red wwan one as 3rd and it seems slightly improved); a 250GB/5200 mechanical disk (your model goes for approximately 65 on eBay, but com...

Re: Whitelist unlock AND custom bootlogo?

But how to kill Lenovo logo from original IBM's one? Have done some experiments and can't succeed. Have opened BIOS image with phoenix BIOS editor and have found some images for Intel and Lenovo logos but have't tried to clear them from BIOS. Good question (you decompressed the bios and found the f...

Re: Whitelist unlock AND custom bootlogo?

Just tried successfully: Apparently the newest versions of WinPhlash64 still support the /L:filename.mod argument, despite it having been removed from the documentation... The .mod file can be generated with the tools included in the matching official update... ...and this website, http://2008-deep-...

Re: What computer have you had for the longest? When did you get it?

Some undefined Packard Bell laptop (rebranded NEC Versa E400 according to the sticker). My mom bought it used for me when I was 9 (2004) so I could leave my parents with a desktop PC that they could actually use (both as in free time, and in not having 20 random sharewares on autostart that changed ...

Re: Can I Libreboot an x201?

Libreboot is essentially the extremist mod of Coreboot designed to not support binary blobs - so first there should be a working coreboot port (it has allegedly has relatively major bugs with standby or usb depending on the version you pick, or it did earlier this year) and seeing how there's no alt...

Whitelist unlock AND custom bootlogo?

Official firmware updates are normally in the .FL1 format and flashed via IBM/Lenovo's official frontend, which supports integrating LOGO.MOD on the fly. Modified bioses, at least for T61 and X201, are in the .ROM format and flashed directly via Phoenix's tools; they almost invariably have the usual...

Re: me_cleaner

Interesting but definitely brick potential here. I will pass on this exercise. If you already have an external programmer, there's no risk since you will always be able to backup and restore the full firmware (and starting from a full backup is the recommended mode of operation for me_cleaner), how...

Re: Disabling Thinkpad Security Features

As far as I know: [Computrace] enabled = rootkit is planted on every boot, disabled (any kind) = it isn't However, both enabled and non-"permanently" disabled can be changed to semipermanently enabled if an OS subscribed to CT is used on that computer, while "permanently" disabled is safe from this ...

Re: me_cleaner

I tried it for fun last week (since I had bought a programmer kit to repair a competing-brand tablet, but the chip has a funny shape that doesn't connect to the clip): while it technically works on X201 (whether in classic or HAP mode or both) it makes the computer take a minute to turn on, crash if...

Re: where to get Bios dump to revert Coreboot install on X220?

Is there maybe a Bios dump available which I could download and flash onto the chip? The simplest option by a long shot (considering the relatively large popularity of coreboot for your PC) is indeed flashing someone else's backup (editing the ethernet MAC address back to yours if you care) - or, s...
