VBIOS extraction with nvflash

Hi, I was playing with the freeware tool nvflash and was impressed by amount settings one could possibly apply to the GPU unit. The problem is my Lenovo FX3700M is not recognized by this program, so I cant set anything.

I wonder if it’s my unit fault or it is more general issue?

X220 speakers mod

I have used a replacement speaker available on ebay. I took no pictures of my mod and it is a bit different than what im writing here, I will elaborate on this later. Just basic soldering skill and soldering iron are needed. I have used Hakko 888D and very thin tip to solder the other end of wire bu...

X220 speakers mod

Inspired by the post linked on x220.mcdonelltech.com I decided to try it myself. I have ordered a pair of iPad mini speakers and succesfully replaced the stock ones. Now my laptop sounds much better and is a bit louder. I had to remove small plastic pieces from the laptop case to fit them nice. Note...

Re: Advice regarding W700

After testing this system a bit with debian I must say that the power consumption is reduced twicefold and the restarts problem dissapered. So it is related either to low battery performance that can’t handle demand bigger than ~75 Watt (Linux never went over this much) or Windows drivers.

Re: Is the x220 worth getting in 2018?

81Wh capacity ??? This is the slice version then? never heard of such capacity, the 9-cells is around 73Wh. If I could get 4h from a regular 42T4881 (6 cells), i would be more than happy. I don't want to add 1kg to my x220t :) 81Wh design capacity, that's what power manager reports. The battery is ...

Re: X220 upgrade to 16GB RAM. Tipps

I'm using two sticks labeled Kingston HX318LS11lBK2/16 8GB 1,35 V. They are clocked at 1866MHz but due to Sandy Bridge specification RAM works at 1333 MHz. Not all BIOSes support these sticks. The early official Lenovo should work, the newer limits the supported RAM specs. There is a modded BIOS lin...

Nope, I have no idea how picture two almost identical little bolts so that a mm difference would be visible, neither I feel like doing it :D But you have my word. Two sockets in the middle front has to be fixed with these longer ones. They should not go to any other socket.

Nope. All the large bottom screws are the same. Actually mister you are wrong ;) There are two bolts just a one mm longer than the rest of screws holding the keyboard and the palmrest pieces in place. The longer ones should go to sockets in the middle, front of the laptop. The shorter fixed there w...

I have polished the copper plate from my fx3700m cooler and have applied a new grease and pods. The gpu overclocked to 690MHz and the memory to 966MHz card worked ok and the temp during intensive benchmarking stayed at around 72 degrees. Before polishing and on the stock (?) grease it would display ...

use the external interfaca. 1.16 might be an EC firmware version. If you wish to update all you have to do is burn the iso with bios update program onto some cd (rw recommended) and put it into your docking station. More fins = more efficiency = more labour, drains battery faster. Ouch! Where did you get this from? The fan is a 1.1W device cooling a 50W+ GPU... Just a guess: each fin pushes a bit of air so adding two fins allows tu push a bit more. This is possibly insifignicant in terms of power measurment bu...

According to online info BIOS revisions newer than 1.38 check the RAM frequency. So downgarding to older revision should allow to run higher clock modules without mod. Don't know about the downgrade tho

Any info regarding thermal performance? I'm thinking about adding extra pipes to the heatsink. This machine can get considerably hot working on stock i7 2620M, so two extra cores will definetely make it worse. Re: CPU Sandy bridge to Ivy bridge

The reason I'm willing to swap is to get a quad core cpu in my X220. To my knowledge this is not an option with any X230 model. Don't know why Lenovo has waited with this until recent (quad core ultrabooks). Quad core Ivy's are around since 2012. I'm considering getting a worn out x220 to try to res...

By BIOS CD I mean the update utility burned from iso file available on lenovo websites. All versions shoukd be there, my advise is to start with the oldest one. You will lose your hour 1600 MHz ram stick support so secure a genuine one before updating! According to the official Intel documentation S...
