Re: Bumps on Keyboard and Bezel After Reassembly
Maybe the bezel tabs didn't slide into their slots, but are sitting on top of the frame instead. As for the keyboard, could be a misplaced wire won't allow the keyboard to seat properly.

Re: Getting either T400 or T60. Which to take?
T400 is much more powerful machine, unless the T60p has some special feature that makes it a better choice. But, T60p is limited to 3GB RAM which may or may not make any difference, but if you want to run Win 10 64-bit, it may struggle a bit on a T60. Anyway, of the two, I would probably choose the ...

Re: Any working 15" A30's left?
My A30p is not dead, but it's not healthy either. It has an UXGA display, but because of a faulty graphics chip, it will not display at full resolution nor work at all with a graphics driver installed. Only works with Windows default graphics or VESA on Linux.

Re: How to estimate a Sony Vaio for sell?
Probably best to sell as-is for whatever you can get for it. Investing in upgrades will not likely give a better net return. Only upgrade if you are going to use it and get some value out of the cost of upgrades.

Re: Requesting Help Finding Modern Linux Distros for T60
Couple of things.... Almost all modern Linux Distro are too large to fit on a CD anyway. And, the T60 most certainly will boot from a USB stick. I have a T60 in use right now running Debian 10 that was installed from USB and has never given me any trouble. I'm of the opinion that your problems are n...

That plus DVD-RW disks are the hardest to read for an older/worn drive. Might get better results with a DVD-R disk.

Re: IBM Thinkpad 600e DVD Boot?
It's been a really long time since I installed anything on a 600e, but a couple of options come to mind: 1- Boot from a PLOP CD (or floppy even) which will hand off to USB for installation. Even if USB boot is not supported. 2- Just pull the drive out of the 600e and connect to another computer that...

Re: Install problem
Probably a faulty DVD. Is this a factory pressed Win 7 DVD, or one burned from a download image? If the later, is it re-writable or not. Sometimes it's especially hard to get a re-writable disk to be read properly. On an unrelated note, 500mb is much to small a HDD to install Windows 7 onto. You mus...

Re: T530 webcam comes and goes
Pretty sure I don't have any Lenovo apps installed. I don't use this system much, but set it up with a clean install of Windows 10. I'll have to give the Communications Utility a try and see if it makes any difference for me.

Re: T530 webcam comes and goes
I use the webcam in my T430 for the occasional Zoom meeting, and have twice had the camera fail to start. Strange thing about it was on one occasion, booted and started Zoom meeting right off, but camera failed to start. So I went through that entire (short) meeting without the camera. On another oc...

Re: Considerations for using CF-IDE adapters
Well, I can't really comment much on the speed, as it's the only drive I've ever had in the X40. So there is nothing for me to compare to other than other ThinkPads of similar vintage that are running spinning IDE HDDs. And to me performance is about the same. The X40 with CF card probably lags a li...

Re: Considerations for using CF-IDE adapters
I've used such an adapter in my X40 for many years. Works great. Only gotcha is it's very difficult to install in the drive bay. One basically has to remove case plastic to gain access to the IDE connector. That's about my only option with the X40, but with other devices with a full size HDD slot, I...

Re: DIY BGA rework station
I'll keep an eye on your progress as well, just out of curiosity. A few years ago I attempted to re-flow a couple of ThinkPads with a heat gun, and while I was able to melt the solder, I melted other stuff too, and failed to correct the issue that lead to the attempt. I'm no longer interested in doi...

Re: The official 600 Upgrade and general information Topic
I don't know. It's been too long since I ran W98SE on my 600X and/or 600E that I don't remember whether I had audio troubles or not. Plus, I don't have any experience with the older 600 model, and I believe it used a different Cirrus Logic audio controller than the machines I owned, but I'm not sure...

Re: Just ordered a T430 - few noob questions?
Looks to me like the broken plastic is around the CPU fan exhaust vent. Probably have to replace the entire base. Not worth the trouble IMHO. The 8GB RAM is most likely 2x4GB, because 8GB sticks are rather expensive. I have 2x4GB RAM in my T430 also, and looked into upgrading to 16GB a little while ...

Re: Replacing a system board
You don't really have to have the maintenance diskette to replace a system board. Most replacement boards you can find now are not new anyway, and will probably have a serial number and system type numbers already in place. It won't match your system, but will work non-the-less. Brand new boards wou...

Re: X260: i5 vs i7, is there much of a difference?
No not much difference. If the price is close to the same, I would probably choose the i7, but if it's much more I doubt most folks would notice any difference at all under normal circumstances. If it was 2 vs 4 cores at similar clock speeds... now that would be another matter.

To address this, I want to remove the CMOS battery - can you please just give me a hint if this is a waste of time? Unlike some other computer brands, removing the CMOS battery will not clear an unknown ThinkPad BIOS password. It will likely only make matters worse. The rules of this forum (rightfu...

Re: Managed to destroy my X201 keyboard, what is the next logical step?
On occasion I've used running water to clean a ThinkPad keyboard, and as long as I've given it enough time to dry out completely, it has not caused any problems. Maybe a little more time and your keyboard will work again. But, if not, have you tried to find a Danish replacement? It's not very easy t...
