Re: T400 does not boot: any hint?

Those wires are probably antenna leads for a WWAN card. And, yes they are routed to the (likely empty) miniPCI slot.

FS: LED display parts from T500

What we have here is a badly cracked LCD panel from a T500. It's a LG LP154WX7 panel FRU: 42T0797 with LED back light. Hopefully someone with more skill than I have will be able to salvage the LED unit for use in another panel. Also including the FRU: 42W8080 LED driver card. Looking to get $40 $35 ...

Hi whqdz,
Just tried the query myself and can confirm you don't need to use "sudo" for it to work. Just copy and paste the command into a terminal, press enter, and there is you info.

The old 600E looks much better in those super sized pictures that it did under my desk gathering dust. Years ago, it was getting almost daily use, but for the past two or three years, I doubt that it was booted more than a couple of times a year...if that.

Re: "Krack" WIFI Security flaw Found

While I suppose it would be best for all devices to be patched, including routers, here is what the krackattacks.com web site has to say about the situation: What if there are no security updates for my router? Our main attack is against the 4-way handshake, and does not exploit access points, but i...

Re: T60 OS

That's great! Don't feel as though you must install the first Linux that comes along. Download several ISOs of various distros and desktop environments, and try out the live versions. Kind of a test drive if you will. That way you can get a feel for what you like and don't like before making the cho...

Re: Installing Ubuntu 16.04 on the T25 - driver issues

This is all uncharted territory for me, but you may have to go with the 4.14 daily build kernel to get support for such new hardware. http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

What drivers are you missing? Graphics is the usual suspect when problems arise. Does the T25 have a different graphics chip than the T470? I haven't the opportunity to experience either.

Re: T60 OS

I run Slackware on a similarly equipped T60. I think you will find Linux much easier to install than Windows. Lots of folks have difficulty with Linux because they have to install it themselves, whereas Windows came pre-installed on their hardware. But, if you've ever tried installing Windows, then ...

Re: Installing Ubuntu 16.04 on the T25 - driver issues

Have not done it myself, so take this advice with that in mind. Drivers, in Linux, are included in the kernel for most hardware, so with such new hardware you are likely going to have to have the very newest kernel available for your chosen OS. Even then it may take a while for developers to catch u...

I may have what you are looking for.

I have to offer a 600E type 2645-8AU which has a 366MHz PII CPU, 160MB RAM and a 10GB HDD. It's in pretty good condition considering it's age.

If this interests you, let's continue the conversation by PM.

I have not used a T410 in quite a while, but my guess is that Windows 7 (or Windows update) will provide most, if not all, the drivers needed for a functioning system.

Re: A22m internal display not working.

I'm not very familiar with the A22m machines (wait I think I have a box of A21p parts here somewhere), but could it be the lid switch that is missing? I guess a missing switch could cause the laptop to think the lid is always closed, switching the display off.

I've got a fairly nice 600E that I put an almost like new LCD panel in a couple of years ago. It has some scuffs and scratches on the palm rest (we used it for a few years at our retail store before the original LCD went out). It gets very little use now, so if interested send a PM.

Not the first computer I bought, and not the oldest I now have, but the one I've had for the longest time is a hp Pavilion 8140 that I purchased as a factory refurbished unit in 1997 for $999. It had the best specs I could get for that kind of money back then. Used that machine for over 15 years in ...

The benefits of Middleton's BIOS are: SATA-II (3 Gbit/s) drive speeds - the stock ThinkPad T61 BIOS limits the SATA interface to 1.5 Gbit/s SLIC 2.1 tables - simplify licensing of Microsoft Windows Whitelist removal - allow installation of a wider variety of internal components such as wireless card...

Re: error message when trying to boot

If I had found that the Linux distro I was trying to install was not compatible with my hardware, I would be looking for a different distro to try. Since Linux Mint 18 (Main Edition I assume) kernel appears to cause issues with your T60, try Linux Mint MATE 17.3 (17.3 Main Edition might be OK too), ...
