Oh wait sorry wrong CPU. Its a 4.4GHz(turbo) 6 core. But just remember, they are still both mobile chips, they can only draw so much power. 35W is still 35W of power no matter which way you put it. I mean my phone is a 2.5GHz 8 core processor and should be on par with my 6 core 3.5GHz i7 in my desk...

I use Macrium Reflect to make my recovery media. I have several external drives, I keep the backup image on. REDUNDANCY RULES! 8) I make a bootable, USB drive and make Macrium Recovery media. My "DD" (W540) has three SSD's. 1 M.2 NGFF 480gb drive. 2x 1tb Samsung EVO 860 SSD's. I image my C drive, to...

You can get a W540 with better specs for between xxxxx Yes, you may be able to get one cheaper here in the US. The OP is in Poland, and the price may be reasonable there, or near there. Besides, one can list anything that they want, at whatever price they'd like...whether or not it sells is up to t...

I then, rub Nivea hand cream into the rubberized coating, then wipe it off like I didn't want it on to begin with. I buff it afterwards, with a blue, lint free, paper shop towel shop towel. Not only does it restore the coating to almost new condition, it reduces fingerprints. Wait, do you mean it r...

Re: First time thinkpad
The T44x series "ClunkPad" is just fine, if you learn how to use it properly. Tips are welcome. :) I have met several users with a model from this series, and none of them liked the "clunkpad"... Look on Lenovo's website for proper usage. I only use it on occasion. Generally, I use a mouse. However...

Re: Do W540s with Intel HD graphics only/ no Quadro chips exist?
Seen a find on eBay which has a w540 with nice specs, and only Intel HD graphics listed (no mention of a K1100M/K2100M). Given I want to use an eGPU, not having the dedicated GPU could be a plus since dGPUs seem to lead to lots of problems with eGPUs . But, I've been told that the W540's were typic...

Re: Do W540s with Intel HD graphics only/ no Quadro chips exist?
1080p is pretty much good enough for me. I have mild worries about TN but I won't have any requirements for high resolution (all I'll be doing is school work, some computer modelling and coding, some gaming) Ok, good to know it always comes with a quadro. So either I'm dealing with an incorrect (by...

Re: Preserving rubberized coating - what environmental factors to avoid?
i think how it's been cleaned is the biggest factor. the rubberized surface should only be cleaned with soft cloth and water. any chemical will make the surface deteriorate. I use Mr. Clean, magic eraser to remove scratches, scuffs, and sticker residue. I then, rub Nivea hand cream into the rubberi...

FHD IPS is your bottleneck. T420/T430 have an option to get FHD IPS, but that takes a fair bit of modding and cost. T430 can have either a backlit chiclet KB or (with an EC-mod) the non-backlit T420 7-row classic keyboard. Only T440/p and newer came with FHD IPS option, resp. could be upgraded to i...

I use this in both my T440p, as a boot drive, and as a supplement drive in both my W540's I've found them to be very compatible, and reliable. The T430 uses 50mm. mSATA, NOT MVMe. There's nothing wrong with any of these computers IF: They do what you need them to do, in a reasonably efficient manner. They're well maintained. You like them. NO computer that you like, and is still useful to you, is "junk". I have a T400 P8800/128gb SSD/ 8gb RAM, and a 1440x900 display. Do I use...

I recommend the i7-4700mq. It's popular for good reason. It's a great processor. I have a T440p with this processor, and another with an i7-4800mq. It runs nice and cool, because I use really good thermal compound.
I don't recommend anything faster than the i7-4800mq, though.

I have an i7-4702MQ in my T440p. It's not that much slower than the i7-4900MQ, but temperature- and cost-of-electricity-wise it beats yours by a mile. My 4702 TDP = 37W , your 4900 TDP = 47W . The i7-4900mq in my W540, has 8mb SmartCache, Yours has six. My clock speed is considerably faster than yo...

Well, after having the NEW W540 for a few days, here's what I think about it, and some observations. This one has the factory clickpad.... Guess what? I like it better than the T450 pad that's in my first W540. I don't ever use the trackpoint, so the shortcomings with that, and the clickpad, are a n...

I take back what I said about the i7-4900 not being much of an upgrade over the i7-4800 Doesn't look like much on paper, but I have another W540, with the i7-4900. There is a noticeable difference! The configurations are exactly the same, except for the CPU. The i7-4900 is much snappier than the i7-...

Don't know yet about cooling and other issues, but I can definitely say that a Sandy Bridge laptop without Nvidia graphics is easier to set up than one with them. In particular, Nvidia broke resume from hibernation to disk at some point. I have a T420 w/o Nvidia and it is a dream to run by comparis...

I consulted at many businesses that kept even T61s T400s as test bench machines and the like... Many businesses didnt even buy desktops any more... older laptops worked fine as desktops with an lcd kbd mouse. However even so, a 1st gen machine is basically worthless. I think 3 or 4yrs ago I bought ...
