Re: Big Tech finally getting what it deserves

So, into the madness with Facebook (and Instagram which it owns) going down. Call me controversial or whatever, but am I the only person who sees this as Big Tech finally getting a long-deserved taste of its own medicine? I mean, I think the US Congress has taken a bit more notice to such companies...

Re: I just got Windows 10 Pro for $14.99 , is it safe ?

Sorry and thanks for the amazing answer, I was thinking it might stop working in the next weeks-months and loose my money :) I actually had this happen to a license of Office 2013 volume I purchased from some (as I now know them to be) "shady" sellers on GMO Japan's marketplace for about 1000 yen i...

Re: Antivirus for Windows 10 users!

I used to like nortons, but symantec ruined it. Winblows defender is adequate supplemented by malwarebytes, spybot search & destroy, and security task manager I'm increasingly disillusioned with Norton, despite being the sysadmin of the [extended] family and putting it on no less than probably 15 m...

Re: X200: possible to reset Computrace to disabled in BIOS?

I set it on "Permanently disabled". I will not use Computrace and even if I would sell it later on, I don't think anyone would make a problem of it. It is already an older machine and I assume Computrace is mostly relevant in a corporate environment. Congratulations! I'm happy to see that CompuTrac...

Again, not sure why you're being such an ***, you posted this question over a week ago and got no response. I figured I'd offer you some alternatives and information given that you had received nothing yet. And since you've been such an ***, I'll let you find the MTM page for the T490 HCE yourself....

Re: [WTB] T460 w/ i7 + WWAN OR T490 - Health Care Edition

The fact that you are even asking the question shows its not trivial. There is no longer a legitimate way to obtain a T490 HCE. Period. Short of new-old-stock, any that you are buying will either have been outright stolen, or be gray-market examples. Modifying one is the only realistic way to get o...

Re: [WTB] T460 w/ i7 + WWAN OR T490 - Health Care Edition

Not sure what the aggressive tone is about, but yeah, finding the FRUs for those parts is trivial, Lenovo lists them all under the machine type page in the parts lookup section. Honestly, it's not meant to be strongly aggressive, but I do feel that you haven't contributed that much to this conversa...

Re: [WTB] T460 w/ i7 + WWAN OR T490 - Health Care Edition

Why specifically a T490 HCE though? Any that you would be able to buy right now are either going to be NOS and thus absurdly priced or illegally obtained, or at best through a loophole or gray area. Your best option is honestly a T480, it has battery bridge and basically the same specs as T490, on ...

Re: [WTB] T460 w/ i7 + WWAN OR T490 - Health Care Edition

Im 99% certain the T490 HCE does not have battery bridge, just the internal 3-cell like any old T490. The last Thinkpad to offer it was the T480. You are correct, but the requirements list was specific to the T460. I'm open to just about anyone with a T490HCE, I just don't know if they even exist f...

[WTB] T460 w/ i7 + WWAN OR T490 - Health Care Edition

Hello wonderful people After spending a week looking at why the WiFi card in my x250 had suddenly failed, I've localised the issue to the antenna cables or perhaps a short in that region of the motherboard. I'm not sure I want to spend much more trying to fix it, considering I have a workaround USB ...

Re: x250 BIOS update - says it now officially supports 16GB RAM

At least I know what my next Thinkpad will likely be, unless a very economical PowerPC 820/850 pops up again... If RAM is very important for you, I would advise you to buy at least a T470 - because that one supports DDR4, which means it can take in up to 64 GB of RAM - 32 GB RAM modules became avai...

Re: x250 BIOS update - says it now officially supports 16GB RAM

[T]aking in that Lenovo went back with the T450 to having 2 RAM slots... Now .. this is interesting. I am keenly wondering if I should trade out my X250 for a T450, or have both -- simply for the extra potential 16GB (32GB total) of RAM (my usage of VMs is never ending). Bonus points if this far in...

Re: Adding internal USB sockets into an X250/260?

Tried it today on my X250 using a NGFF B key to Mini PCI-E adapter attached to one of the Mini PCI-E to USB adaptors. Sadly I get an Error 2010 on boot which is a BIOS error with the BIOS detecting it as a faulty mSATA drive. Updated to the latest BIOS and still get the same error. Tried the Mini P...

What are the biggest differences between the 3 besides the CPU and trackpad? I'm thinking of picking up an X250 or 260 but wondering if it's possible to add an internal usb socket inside the laptop. I've searched around online and seen mention that a Mini PCI-E to USB adaptor like this or this might do the job if I replace the WWAN or M.2 SSD with one. The only concern I ha...

I advise fans of Chrome to look at Chromium. I'm sitting on it and he's cool.
