Re: Drivers for A21m

According to original specs, that machine shipped with modem only, no LAN of any kind PIII 800MHz (256KB), 64MB RAM, 20.0GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 8x-2x DVD, Modem, Li-Ion battery, Win98, Office 2000 SB I believe the modem and LAN or tied together (and the reason the other post link was h...

Drivers for A21m

Decided to spin up my A21m and make it OS original again (had Linux) so went and put Win 98 SE back on it. Now I cant find some of the drivers I need for it. What I am looking for is the USB drivers (as I put the video and sound drivers on usb stick to move over) and possibly LAN drivers. I saw this...

What kind and where to buy memory for t420s

I currently have 1 - 4GB dimm, Samsung M471B5273DH0-CH9. I would like to get another stick to get 8GB, but I do not see any 'namebrand' websites that sell this model. Can I use another brand, or can anyone recommend one of the lesser known vendors to buy this module while memory is cheap? Or recomme...

Re: T60 issues

Just an update.

New drive and fresh install, boots into usable state in about 55 seconds now, used to be about 90 seconds before, and new battery giving me 3 hours of work time.

Here's to 5 more years!

Thanks everyone, probably go the WD route as they have a 5 year warranty on the drive.

As always this site rocks.

Re: T60 issues

Looking at one of these two drives I guess:

Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s

or

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9320423AS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s

Either one is bare bones and $50

Re: T60 issues

Good news to hear that any hard drive should work! I was afraid I would get messages like you do with the battery that it is not genuine.

I am up for any recommendations on a hard drive then. Need not be a big capacity, but would prefer the 7200 over 5400 (hate the boot time on this thing.)

T60 issues

So was working on my T60 when the battery light started flashing orange and status shows that the battery has failed. OK, it is 5 years old, so fine, order a new one. 1 day later my game freezes and I hear the dreaded clicking. Great, HD is probably one its way out also, reboot and get some strange ...

hmm, hopefully someone will chime in soon, or maybe it's just worth to spend the extra $70 and get a T500? I see the R500 weighs about half a pound more, but if that is about the only difference (between the t500 and r500 I am looking at) I can use $70 towards a dock.

the manufacturer's warranty is fully transferrable, just like a car. If it's an extended warranty, then it's hard to say, but I think you are justr talking about the mfg warranty.

I think the t4x series tapers a bit at the front (bezeled) and the t60's do not, so it feels thicker, but they are really the same (or different only by mm's)

I like to look at driver support also. With a TP, you know 3 years from now they will still make updates for your TP, do you think you would get any updates on a 3 year old Dell?

XP seems to safely add/remove those devices witout ever 'disabling' it first also.

I have always been able to plug in flash drives, media readers and my cd/dvd-roms with no problems.

Technology wise the T60 is better with the duo core and the better graphics options (I just have the X1300 64mb in the T60 and a 9600 in the T42) but as you are going integrated, that option does not matter to you Build wise my T42 beats the T60 ...
