Re: Win10 upgrade failed on both my X40 and T43p?

Shouldn't the compatibility test catch all these potential problems? For my experience of Windows 10 on my T43 and T43p's, I have far better experience with Anniversary edition than any other version. Previous versions are more buggy and less baked, while later versions have terrible support to Dir...

Win10 upgrade failed on both my X40 and T43p?

Both are running Win7 and I wanted to find the oldest TP that can support Win10. Both have Pentium-M Dothan CPUs and more than 1GB RAM which is enough for Win10 32bit. The upgrader ran fine, downloaded all files, ran all checks, installed Win10 and started it, but both crashed BSOD when booting Win1...

Re: Which ThinkPads have the water-spill resistance feature (drain holes)?

Additional info I found: Some newer models might not have holes but are 'sealed' instead like the X240 (see how the coffee doesn't flow through)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOFvk-FzTxQ There is also a thread with conflicting info: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/7sjphe/is_it_confirme...

Which ThinkPads have the water-spill resistance feature (drain holes)?

I am trying to get an overview when it stated and if it ended somehow? 600X and T23 have no dedicated drain holes as far as I can see. T43p has an unlabeled empty hole, it could be for drainage. T60 & T410 have drain holes at the underside labeled as such. T430s has unlabeled holes, reported as work...

Re: Internet browser for T23 and older without SSE2 (Pentium III)

What has the age of the laptop to do with the ability to navigate the web and download old drivers, retro-games, demos, shareware, old software etc? How else would you get this?

Re: Internet browser for T23 and older without SSE2 (Pentium III)

Looking around I found these: Last Firefox version is 45.9.0 ESR, last release April 2017: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/45.9.0esr/win32/ A homebrew FF derivative called New Moon from Feb 2018: http://matejhorvat.si/en/unfiled/pmxp/index.htm There is also a lightweight QTWeb brows...

Internet browser for T23 and older without SSE2 (Pentium III)

As we know the aging PIII does not have SSE2 instruction support which means that software compiled for these instructions does not run or crash unexpectedly. MY T23 1GB is the last machine affected by this, as the P4 in the T30 has SSE2. This affects modern Firefox after v48(?) and modern Chrome wh...

Re: Adjust trackpoint adaptation?

Here's a clip demonstrating what I'm saying (sorry for the low quality). The cursor initially at the left middle edge of the screen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWIjvzWM5kc&feature=youtu.be I'd be willfully dragging my cursor across the screen at a steady pace and the cursor would stop due to t...

Re: Clean Thinkpads with Magic Eraser and refresh faded plastic/rubber

Even if the ThinkPad rubber has been cleaned, the rubber has been deteriorated very badly due to aging; eventually, the paint on the t20 will result in the 700 series paints. Although, I am still trying to figure out a good paint mixture that properly replicates the normal ThinkPad paint. My oldest...

Clean Thinkpads with Magic Eraser and refresh faded plastic/rubber

How do you clean, restore the surface of your ThinkPads? My method, tested for years on 600E, 600X, T23, T43p, T60, T430s. Of course be careful with the Magic Eraser polisher, it is quite soft, but after too many times of usage you would get through the top material. 1.) Dry Magic Eraser polish : re...
