Marketplace post?

"Marketplace" subforum post disappeared? About a month ago I created a post in the marketplace sub-forum pointing people to an eBay account I have where I was selling Thinkpad parts. Now I can't find that post in my "posts" section of my profile. Is it safe to assume that it was deleted by a mod? Is...

Re: Bypassing Security Features on X6x / T6x era Thinkpads

So, does anyone have any experience or knowledge about remedying these problems? (1), (2) disabling a set BIOS password, (3) fully disabling Computrace 1) yes 2) yes 3) yes And I'm not the only one by any means... Respectfully, I am having difficulty understanding the point of this reply. Is it an ...

Re: Bypassing Security Features on X6x / T6x era Thinkpads

Seems like the same type of situation. The market value of a complete t61 is maybe about $100. Very few people are going to risk their freedom and future the steal that Right... that's why they steal canned beer valued at $2 total. :? So therefore we should keep canned beer in a bank vault?

Re: Bypassing Security Features on X6x / T6x era Thinkpads

Seems that some consideration of the age of the machine should be made....but rules are rules. I suppose if the same methods for older machines also work for current models then it makes some sense to bar discussion. I guess back in the 1970s and 1980s people had their car radios stolen relatively f...

Re: Hosting indexed split PDF files of Lenovo product reference on a public website

Sounds like you just don't know how to use the tools you're using... This PDF has bookmarks, which are easily accessible from the sidebar using any PDF program I tried, including the built-in reader in Firefox . I'd much rather use this huge monolithic PDF than the individual pages you're suggestin...

Re: Hosting indexed split PDF files of Lenovo product reference on a public website

I think I could write a scraper for that PDF file and host it on thinkpads.org alongside thinkpads.org/fru. I'll keep you updated. Hello, I already did that. I used pdftk and wrote a simple shell script to control it. I am pretty happy with the output. I have not uploaded and indexed the text / htm...

Re: Hosting indexed split PDF files of Lenovo product reference on a public website

If you are using a crappy PDF-reader such as Mupdf http://www.techyard.net/mupdf-lightweight-portable-pdf-reader/ I understand why you are frustrated. Get something like Xpdf : https://www.xpdfreader.com/ or even good old (or rather bloat-old) Adobe Reader. They also have indexes. I thought I menti...

Re: Your favorite free O/S

I find OpenBSD runs excellent on older Thinkpads. Nearly all hardware features are fully supported and the system is extremely stable. I can run indefinitely without needing to reboot just closing the lid for sleep or hibernating the machine. OpenBSD does have a somewhat steep learning curve for con...

Bypassing Security Features on X6x / T6x era Thinkpads

Hello Forum Members, I understand that this may be a controversial topic for some but the reality is that used Thinkpads--I am especially interested in the situation with X6x and T6x machines--are sold under legitimate circumstances but with security features enabled. These features greatly diminish...

Is it possible to use Thinkpad vga video output port for input?

Is there an adapter I can buy / build to use my Thinkpad X61 display (while still installed in the machine) as a general display? I want to be able to input the video signal from another machine and have it display on the Thinkpad screen so I can avoid purchasing an LCD monitor. Also, my X60 is ligh...

Re: Hosting indexed split PDF files of Lenovo product reference on a public website

Yes, I meant the PSREF found here http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/withdrawnbook/ltwbook_2013.pdf It is 709 pages. To derail my own thread... I actually run OpenBSD. I use an X61 with 4 GB of RAM (notebook not tablet) as my daily driver. It is fast enough to do anything I need. If I need addi...

Hosting indexed split PDF files of Lenovo product reference on a public website

I recently found the Lenovo Withdrawn Products Reference book on their website covering models before, I think, 2013. Unfortunately it is a giant (700+ page) monolithic PDF that is very difficult to work with in any form; you got to question what the heck the people who assemble these books are thin...

Ultrabay Optical Drive Compatibility / Classification

Hello, I am looking for a quick way to classify UltraBay III optical drives for resale. It seems IBM / Lenovo made a million different model optical drives. For example from a lot of 7 t40s one might find 6 different part numbers of optical drive 5 of which are seemingly identical CD-RW / DVD ROMs e...

LTN141XA-L01 LCD

This is the same LCD in the t60 and t40, correct? So one should be able to take an LCD from a t40 and put it in a t60, correct? I understand that the motherboard connector on the ribbon cable is different for the t40 vs the t60 but one should be able to use a t40 display in a t60 with the t60 ribbon...
