Re: Which ThinkPad gen suits best for Net/Free/OpenBSD?

I find that the T60, X61, T61, R61 machines work perfectly with OpenBSD. I have not tried NetBSD or FreeBSD on them. I may be trying NetBSD someday soon but I am very happy with OpenBSD. Everything works, including suspend to disk, hibernate, Thinklight, sd card slot (if applicable). Extremely stabl...

Lot of 24 PCS DDR2 SDRAM PC2-6400S 2 GB module size T61 / X61 / R61

I have four (4) lots of 24 PCS of mixed brand DDR2 SDRAM 800 mhz, PC2-6400S. These chips are good for upgrading T60 / T61 / R61 / X61 and similar machines. If you install two you can upgrade a 2 or 3 GB machine to 4 GB. I am trying to get rid of these lots. Asking $90 ($3.75 per module x 24 modules)...

Re: Looking for a devil's advocate: why SHOULDN'T I move to Linux completely ?

Not at all. I know it's possible; in fact I used to do this on my T60 and X61, running Windows, all the time. Back when I was still using them as semi-primary machines, that is. Yes, probably with Windows XP. Try doing that today with same hardware running Windows 7 or 8 or 10 or whatever. I have a...

Re: Looking for a devil's advocate: why SHOULDN'T I move to Linux completely ?

I find I can do everything I need to do on a 10 year old X61 / T61 / T60 with upgraded RAM. I can even watch HD streaming videos with no issues at all...mean while a modern machine struggles to get out of its own way with half a dozen cores and Windows 10 with 16 GB of RAM or whatever... Every time...

Re: Looking for a devil's advocate: why SHOULDN'T I move to Linux completely ?

Personally I have not used Linux or Windows on a daily basis in years. I suppose it depends on what kind of software you need to run on your PC for work or recreation. I use OpenBSD. <snip> Off topic but as someonfe mentioned OpenBSD - OpenBSD is probably the most secure distro out there, i agree i...

Re: LF: DDR2 ram 2x4GB 667 or 800 MHZ

If people other than the OP are still looking I have a single used 4GB PC2-6400S (800 Mhz) stick I can sell for $35 OBO + free shipping. Hynix brand. If you use a 4GB stick with a 2GB stick then you have 6GB of ram. That is what I use in my daily machine, an X61, but also I do not run Windows. My op...

Price cut NOW $4.99 ea. 2GB PC2-6400S DDR2 RAM Modules & other T60/61/R61 parts

Price dropped to $4.99 each. I have a number of different brand used 2GB modules of DDR2 PC2-6400S modules. These are used in machines like the T61 / R61 / X61 and similar. Two 2 GB modules can make a 4 GB upgrade kit. I can match brands and date codes depending on availability if requested. Hynix,...

Personally I have not used Linux or Windows on a daily basis in years. I suppose it depends on what kind of software you need to run on your PC for work or recreation. I use OpenBSD. It is amazingly stable and well supported on older Thinkpads. The reason is because the developers used Thinkpads the...

Re: Need replacement display for x61 (Notebook NOT Tablet)

Thanks for the information folks. I will save this for future reference. It seems that a little bit of Windex got under the glass in the screen after I cleaned it after doing other work inside the laptop. So the screen is working fine now that the fluid completely dried out.

Hello, I need a replacement display for my X61 notebook. The old one appears to be dying. I know the display is 12.1" diagonal and 1024x768. Re: Bypassing Security Features on X6x / T6x era Thinkpads

Seems like the same type of situation. The market value of a complete t61 is maybe about $100. Very few people are going to risk their freedom and future the steal that Right... that's why they steal canned beer valued at $2 total. :? So therefore we should keep canned beer in a bank vault?

Re: Bypassing Security Features on X6x / T6x era Thinkpads

Seems that some consideration of the age of the machine should be made....but rules are rules. I suppose if the same methods for older machines also work for current models then it makes some sense to bar discussion. I guess back in the 1970s and 1980s people had their car radios stolen relatively f...

Re: Hosting indexed split PDF files of Lenovo product reference on a public website

I think I could write a scraper for that PDF file and host it on thinkpads.org alongside thinkpads.org/fru. I'll keep you updated. Hello, I already did that. I used pdftk and wrote a simple shell script to control it. I am pretty happy with the output. I have not uploaded and indexed the text / htm...

Re: Hosting indexed split PDF files of Lenovo product reference on a public website

If you are using a crappy PDF-reader such as Mupdf http://www.techyard.net/mupdf-lightweight-portable-pdf-reader/ I understand why you are frustrated. Get something like Xpdf : https://www.xpdfreader.com/ or even good old (or rather bloat-old) Adobe Reader. They also have indexes. I thought I menti...

Bypassing Security Features on X6x / T6x era Thinkpads

These features greatly diminish...

Yes, I meant the PSREF found here http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/withdrawnbook/ltwbook_2013.pdf It is 709 pages. To derail my own thread... I actually run OpenBSD. Hosting indexed split PDF files of Lenovo product reference on a public website

I recently found the Lenovo Withdrawn Products Reference book on their website covering models before, I think, 2013. Ultrabay Optical Drive Compatibility / Classification

Hello, I am looking for a quick way to classify UltraBay III optical drives for resale. It seems IBM / Lenovo made a million different model optical drives.
