Yes, they are soldered, same as the T430s. Quad core motherboards are made by Chinese modders similar to the X230.

I know there is a Taobao seller in China claiming to have such screens as live stock. I was about to get one but no one was interested so yeah... I believe I know who you are talking about. I bought one a while ago but he didn't have any. Also make sure you don't get the M model as it is 1" thick.

Isn't the nitrocaster board only 2 eDP lanes though? Meaning you can use eDP panels but only up to FHD?
Big bump, but 4 lane kits do exist for 1440p. And you can theoretically just solder to the pins for the lanes by hand, I've seen people do it.

Bump, price lowered to $150, taking offers. If you want me to replace the keyboard for you with a fixed one or a classic keyboard I can do that. I can also throw in an SSD with your reasonable OS of choice at cost for the SSD.

I'd say now that it's winter you could leave the parts removed over a vent. Long, slow application of moderate heat should help.

That, combined a nice dousing of 99% isopropyl alcohol beforehand should clean things up nicely.

Re: WTB: Win 10 ThinkPad

Makes sense If you're on a $200 budget I would personally recommend something like a T450s or a T460. Reasonably fast, can be had for around $200. I'd check eBay first. I'd absolutely agree with one caveat. And that's whether you can get into a T450 "all-in" for $200. I use one on a daily basis and...

If you've got money to burn, I think a T480 with the T25 keyboard mod ($400 for the mod kit) is probably the most powerful machine that fits your requirements: https://www.xyte.ch/shop/t25-frankenpad-kit But this has a glossy screen and cannot be considered a "small" laptop by any standard. Maybe consider replacing the display panel entirely? You can most likely fit a better panel than 15" 1024x768 in it. The best panel widely and cheaply available might be one of those TN UXGA 15" LCDs you can get off eBay like the LQ150U1LH22B, or maybe a FlexView UXGA or QXGA panel if you have the b...
