Is anyone interested in a G50?

Anyone? I was a little upset about the fact that it couldn't accept a Core 2 Duo, and I thought someone else would have a better use for this machine. My original intention was to turn the G50 into a Socket M test bench for overclocking, since its heatsink looks like as if it could handle the heat. ...

Re: T570 which Graphic Dirver work better?

Lenovo's Intel graphics driver is likely to be just an older version, so I am sure that it might have some issues. My suggestion would be to choose the Intel provided graphics driver, it should be better and not cause any trouble.

Re: T61 FRU 41W1489, FRU 42W7548

A simple way to check if that 14.1" widescreen T61 you are looking at, has a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, is to check its machine type number with the MTM search . You would be given a block of text that looks like this: THINKPAD T61 7661-H63 Based on 7661-12A: T7300(2GHz), 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 14....

Re: Socket P CPU in T60 (or in any other socket M board)

Seems like you know what to do, that is good to know. Yes, the H8S/2116B (according to the T60 and the T61's schematics). I am not quite sure of what makes it unable to run with a Penryn installed, since the only lead I had was a different firmware that could've been used for it. I guess that this s...

Re: T430 Backlight dimming = mad flickering

Well, it could be. The panel appears to be solely driven by motherboard's power connector from what the hardware maintenance manual seems to show. As the inverter's ruled out, I believe the display panel needs to be replaced. T430 does not have an inverter , which was only used with CCFL backlight. ...

Re: T430 Backlight dimming = mad flickering

I suspect that it has something to do with the display panel's backlight or the inverter, but have you tried to reduce the flickering via IntelPWMControl ? If the display panel doesn't show any signs of an aging backlight (strong pink/red tint on boot-up), it could be the inverter that is at fault. ...

Re: Socket P CPU in T60 (or in any other socket M board)

Once I've got a little "bored", so I compared merom and penryn datasheets. It seemed most of the pins were compatible and there was only like 70 misplacings, so I made a pin remapping figure (for socket P CPU). Do you think it would be possible to do? (socket M with unlocked multiplier is much more...

Don't worry, that is allowed. I don't see the forum's rules saying anything about linking to another forum, or quoting from another forum. How does the Dell wifi card enable the FSB overclock? Apparently, it's some sort of a byproduct made from bridging pin 24 and pin 52 together on the Dell wireles...

Re: 380XD PCI & PCI CardBus Bridge Drivers

I think I may have found out what the PCI bridges are... it's part of the chipset, maybe? This driver that is meant for the 430TX chipset/PCIset, should work on your 380XD. I've also uploaded another driver for the cardbus controller, but you have to run PCCARDUP.EXE first. This is crucial for enabl...

Re: 380XD PCI & PCI CardBus Bridge Drivers

The 380XD uses a Texas Instruments PCI-1250A cardbus controller, and the PCI ID for it is 104C:AC16. If I am not wrong, you could also use the driver meant for a Texas Instruments PCI-1250, since they both share the same PCI ID. Would it be possible for you to check the PCI IDs of those unknown devi...

Re: T42 wifi problems, can I use an external network adapter?

Since no one has offered any suggestions for an external adapter, I'll throw this one out. The question is, will it work on a T42P? It should, and it looks like it is using Realtek's RTL8811AU chip (XP-compatible). Just be aware that the stated 600MBit/s or 75MB/s theoretical maximum transfer rate,...

Unfortunately, no.

The reason why your mSATA SSD card did not work in that MiniPCIE slot, is due to how the MiniPCIE slot electrically differs (pinout-wise) from an actual mSATA slot.

Well, if you do think that their claims are true, then I suppose you could go for a different brand. You won't, since there are people who had successfully installed DDR3-1866 modules in their T430/T530/X230. This should be the same for the W530.

There was also a post that confirmed the W530's capability of running XMP RAM modules.

Well, as the hardware maintenance manual had stated: FRU 42W7875. FRU 43Y6885 can be also used, since there is no difference between these 2 part numbers, as far as I know.

Hold on a for a second though, how did you exactly know that you have received the wrong motherboard?

Strange, that is something I have not seen in a display panel before. Did you try to tone down the brightness level of the screen, and maybe try shifting the lid up or down? Did any of that reduce or remove the distortion? The fact that the VGA output of the 3rd T61 is fine, means there is definitel...

Indeed, that does not look like a discoloration of the display. It looks more like a complete set of dead pixels on the left side of the display panel. This still calls for a replacement, though.
