Re: Decision: T60p UXGA vs. X61s

according to thinkwiki.org, R61i could have Penryn-CPU (T8100). Should I install Middleton-BIOS anyway, if I wilsh to upgrade the current CPU (T5250). And what would be the highest CPU possible with Original-BIOS? That was only for the 14.1" 16:10 R61i and the 15.4" 16:10 R61i, which is not the 15"...

Re: Modem troubles

I don't know. It displays as "ThinkPad Modem" in device manager. The "driver provider" is "CXT", maybe that means "Conexant"? I'll try to examine the card itself next time I disassemble the laptop. Yes, CXT is short for Conexant. The 'ThinkPad Modem' is just some simplified name that wouldn't tell ...

Re: Wanted: 91P8399 Without Touch Pad

Would this also work for the 15" T4X ? No, unfortunately. This particular palm-rest was only meant for the 14.1" T4x models, not for the 15" T4x models. The reason behind this, is because of how the 15" T4x uses a one-piece palm-rest, which is why the non-touchpad palm-rest is not compatible with t...

Re: Modem troubles

Did you leave the black 2-pin connector dangling out? If I am not wrong, it is supposed to be connected to the modem card. Otherwise, the RJ11 port wouldn't be responding to any modem connected to it. Additionally, what operating system are you using for this modem? I can't find the modem's driver f...

Re: PAE/NX CPU swap in T42P (2373-HTU)

Has anyone out there completed such a swap successfully and got Windows 10 (or unmodded Windows 8(.1)) running on a T42P or equivalent? If so, which CPU and steps did you take to get things running smoothly? I do not want to swap the motherboard with e.g. one from a T43. I doubt anyone has, unfortu...

Re: Thinkpad r40 Power On Problems

That doesn't look good.

If you can find an exact replacement or at least a similar matching chip to replace the defective ones in the motherboard, I would suggest so. Though, if you are not comfortable with soldering chips of that size, I would not suggest you to perform the replacement.

Did you try resetting the BIOS' settings to its factory defaults, right after you installed the new CMOS battery in? See if that works.

Re: Thinkpad r40 Power On Problems

If you are getting a replacement motherboard to resurrect one of them or both, try to get a Pentium M motherboard with either a Mobility Radeon 7000 or a Mobility Radeon 7500. You could then easily max it out to a 1.7GHz Banias on that motherboard, it shouldn't be too expensive for that route. Avoid...

I honestly don't have the equipment to test things like that, but if it helps, I have the Atheros AR9280, thanks for the help! Well, I don't think I can say much about the wireless card itself. Re: Zender BIOS Issue?

There is a way, but the method that has been used to fix it was only done on MiniPCI cards. This is not a BIOS issue, by the way, it has something to do with how the manufacturer of your wireless card has customized the pin-outs. Could you check pin 44's voltage on your MiniPCIE card? It should be o...

Ahem...there's a T7100 in that list which definitely belongs to the same generation as the T7700...I don't see that one working in an R500 any more than a T7700 would. Let's make this easy: none of the T7*** Meroms will work IME, not on any *00 systems with a stock BIOS. It does, but the core that ...

Hello, I was walk dieting what cpus are compatible with the thinkpad r500? Also, will the t7700 work with it? The T7700 and the other early Merom-derived processors will not work, unless you were to add Merom's microcodes manually into the R500's BIOS. I believe the R500 is capable of using any 667...

Re: No reaction for charger or power button R60 IBM Lenovo type 9461-DXG

I will consider buying a R60 with for example broken screen, but i can see there are lot of different boards built in graphics, external, with fingerprint or without. I am surprised this is the one you would have picked, as it seems to be the least special on your list. Well yes, it is the least special out of the rest listed out on my list. Though there are some reasons why I would not want to collect the other machines, mostly due to personal opinions, drawbac...

Re: Obtained a G50, what is this thing?

The G50 is a strange device, it was only sold in East Asia markets, but it looks like Lenovo made it to be a budget laptop. Most configurations I've saw from this website shows only Intel 950 graphics, so they got rid of the nVidia option from the G41. Possibly it could of been a good thing conside...

Woops, my bad. I did not check the latest BIOS version, which should be 3.15. I highly suggest that you keep your current BIOS and do not downgrade. Re: Laptop collectors: if you're allowed to collect just one laptop, which one would it be?

That's an impressive list of mostly very unique laptops, but if you can pick only one which one would it be? A very good question, which is kind of why I made that list. If it wasn't for my country being ridiculous in terms of paying shipping from the US, it would be the Pavilion ZD8000. I remember...

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

Yes, the W700's heatsink can handle that, I just did not like the idea of having a slow quad-core. Most of my workloads tend to be very centered on single-threaded performance, which is why I never used a Core 2 Quad on my W700. If I did recall properly about a W700 that had a QX9300 that was overcl...

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

The benchmark scores you have gotten are not too far from my W700's '4GHz' score. It is pretty close in fact, to the point that I would not mind being approximately 200MHz slower for very miniscule gains. Excluding the memory benchmarks of course, since I don't think it is fair to compare a DDR2 sys...

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

Do you have any benchmarks to prove that the P9700 has the performance of a X9000? Uh, theoretically speaking, the P9700 would be slightly faster compared to the X9000. I don't think you would need a benchmark to prove something that is easy to calculate, no offense. Reason being that the P9700 run...

Re: R500 and X9100 CPU

Doesn't seem like something is missing, and the T9600 is not the fastest processor for the R500. Clearly something here is not right, because a lot of R500 users had ran the X9100 in their machines without a problem. When you mentioned that your R500 does not boot with the X9100 installed, does that...

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

I doubt it is noticeably quicker, since I used to have an R61i that had a X9100 running on the 800MT/s bus (at 3GHz). With that compared to my W700 with the X9100 on the 1066MT/s bus, it didn't show a lot of speed improvements at all, barely if any. AIDA64? Sure, I used the trial edition of AIDA64 E...

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

I must say, those are pretty good ratings for an overclocked X9000. I should probably jump in with a W700 that has an X9100, this would definitely make things a little more interesting with the X9100 and the X9000 both overclocked. Apart from the obvious cooling differences. Though, I am very intere...

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

Interesting, would it be possible for you to run a benchmark to check the speed of it? 7zip 18.05's benchmark seems to be rather light enough to allow something like that to run, and I would like to know the total rating of it. If you can't get your X9000 at 4.2GHz to run that benchmark stable, run ...
