Re: T440s can the cpu overclocked ?

If the UEFI allows it, otherwise no. Assuming that the registers related to Turbo Boost are not locked by the UEFI, you will have a 400 MHz boost on all cores (3.7 GHz on 1 core, 3.4 GHz on 2 cores). Change? Not much, as your T440s would be thermal throttling or hitting its power limits. I say it wo...

Re: T430 with faulty cd drive

Yes.

It's a simple modification, but I believe that nobody wants to roll a dice on the optical drive's bezel compatibility. There is a chance where the bezel might not fit, due to the plastic latches' positions being slightly or completely off.

Re: T430 with faulty cd drive

As far as the FRU/part numbers are concerned, there have been new drives released since the HMM or website has been published/updated so I would go entirely by the name of the drive. To be 100% sure that whatever drive you buy will work inside your T430, I'd look for "Serial Ultrabay Enhanced" driv...

Re: G40 Screen replacement

How feasible is it to swap to a 1400x1050 15" G41 display? That would heavily depend on your budget. Or does that require the fx 5200 go? It does not. Some factory G40 configurations came with a 1400x1050 panel. All you need is a G40/G41 SXGA+ (1400x1050) cable, otherwise all 1400x1050 panels will ...

I get beeps: long-short-short-short, short-short-short-long. According to the UEFI/BIOS error and beep codes page , this could possibly mean that there's something wrong with your new RAM modules. When I replace one of the 8GB modules with one of the 4GB modules it successfully POSTs, but the 8GB m...

but upon closer inspection it looks to me that it's a 2.5 inch form factor drive with 40 pin IDE(?) interface, plus 8 more pins for power? It doesn't look like it's meant for power. The entire drive itself looks like a 3.5-inch hard drive shrunken down to the 2.5-inch size and had its standard Mole...

I believe it is 1.5 mm thick. That is what I found on my T410, which features a chassis that is similar to the T430's chassis.

I no longer have a T410, but I do remember that I had no issues from using a 1.5 mm Fujipoly Sarcon XR-m thermal pad.

Yes, as there are no video signals going back to the P71's display panel. I believe the maximum is 64 GB. I've never seen a Kaby Lake or a Skylake-based system with four 2Rx8 32 GB RAM modules, but I did see some of them with 2Rx4 32 GB RAM modules. Those won't work in a non-server Kaby Lake/Skylake...

There's a lot of stuff around that doesn't match and/or exist in HMMs and PSREFs but does so IRL. It's always been that way in my experience.
Ah, alright then. I suppose that basing my observations from the hardware maintenance manuals were pointless if that's the case.

Re: X40 overclock ?

That would depend on your Latitude D400's memory controller. If it's an 82855GME, you'll be forced to use enthusiast-class DDR400 RAM modules to maximize stability. If it's not an 82855GME and it's just a plain 82855GM, you'll need the average/regular DDR400 RAM modules. However, if you are familiar...

Unfortunately, I've never owned an X40 in my life. That means I have to resort to guessing the phase-locked loop's position, and additionally I could be wrong as well.
