Re: I bought a locked TP-R40 ? now what ?

Well ..you guys asked me for info ..and I'm no expert with the R40 .. This is a first for me ..so I'll give you all the data I can.. Of course ..a lot of it wont be relevant once a replacement system board has been fitted.. This info relates to the current SVP locked R40. Type 2722-BDG Fitted with C...

Re: Thinkpad 600 resurrection

I wont deny I'm tempted ..but shipping could well be the deciding factor.. Shipping is often a problem between the US and the UK .. for example ..I'm currently trying to buy a dell laptop motherboard from the states ..but the vendor is refusing to sell on account (his claim) ebay refuses to operate ...

Re: Thinkpad 600 resurrection

Added a 32mb and a 64mb stick to the onboard ram .. Why not add more ram? the lower capacity ones like 64mb or 128mb sticks of pc100 don't really cost much at all, and that I also do happen to have those sitting in my drawer as I'm already even having spare 256mb pc100 sticks I may well add more ra...

Re: I bought a locked TP-R40 ? now what ?

Talk about pouring good money after bad .. Scoured ebay today and found a reclaim/refurb system board for £20 UKP .. Hopefully this will get this lappy up and running .. IBM 91P7306 ThinkPad R40 Motherboard - FRU 91P7307 guaranteed working ...so hopefully no stooopid passwords set.. I seriously deba...

Re: I bought a locked TP-R40 ? now what ?

Sadly too late ..as the bios battery was already disconnected when I got it..
I rather fancy the previous owner had already made attempts to get it going ..and gave up ...
which is why I got it cheap I guess.

I bought a locked TP-R40 ? now what ?

No hard drive in it which is as expected ..but the caddy attached to the audio IO present.. So It powers up ..and the first thing I wanted to do was enter the bios .. held down F1 ..but inste...

I hope it isn't against the rules to link to another forum.. I this case Vogons. Re: Thinkpad 600 series and Selectadocks

Got to agree ..postage is the killer in situations like this .. I've just sent the selectabase link to the selectadock vendor ...in the desperate hope he might take pity on me .. both sellers being US based. Theoretically he could buy the selectabase for a few dollars plus internal shipping ...then ...

Re: Thinkpad 600 series and Selectadocks

Thanks for info kacperas .. Guess I'll just have to give up on this idea then ...since the only place I can get one is also the US .. The base would be cheap enough ...but the postage ....Eeeeek. $170 to post 13$ to buy.. Even the guy selling the the selectadock only wants $140 postage.. Oh well ..n...

Hi.. I have the option to buy a Selectadock II part number 3547-002 It would be used specifically with the 600 series ...so I need to verify total compatibility as it would have to be shipped from the US to the UK. Many Many thanks for the pointers buddy ..
So ..I guess one less thing to worry about ...I now have a full sized screen.
I am surprised that this wasn't automatically accomodated during the installation since the 600 was designed for Win98.

A line from earlier in the thread..
"as to the CD drive ..it is one I borrowed from one of my 600X ...and has been used for win2K restore on that unit."
..if only it were that straightforward..
no such luck

unless a bios udate allows larger drives ..
