Re: T430 2351-AJ8 Purchase questions

In the T430 the CPU is socketed. In one of mine I replaced the i5-3320M with an i7-3632QM, a straightforward job. Max temp I've seen is in the mid 80's running handbrake. Bluetooth was an option, some have it some don't - both of mine have it. Also both have the integrated intel graphics. Runs linux...

Re: Throw me Distro suggestions!

Linux mint - been running it now for over two years. Recently upgraded to LM19. Tried the other major distros when I moved from the dark side. Mint was the one I liked the most.

Re: T420 Display Problems

I'm currently playing with this easy one: Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon
Most T series thinkpads run mint 'out of the box'. For my windows needs I run win7 in a VM (virtualbox) - fine for MS office. Also run crossover for MS office.

Re: Fundamental differences between T420 and T430?

Having had both, more than happy with my T430's - have two, neither with discrete graphics. Can't remember what you can do with the T420 but have modded one of my T430's with an i7-3632, maxed the ram and put a HDD in the ultrabay. Spends most of its life sat in a docking station (£10 off ebay) driv...

Re: Log splitter

Got a manual hydraulic log splitter, so much better than using an axe. Think it cost around £150. Downside is that you are continually bending down and standing up.

There is an alternative, it's called linux. And on most/all older thinkpads it runs flawlessly.

Re: [solved] T430 boot from mSATA

Found it!! It's not obvious, on the startup menu first item is >boot, looks like a title for what is below, it's not. If it is highlighted, hit return and it takes you into a sub menu that shows the boot order list which you can then change. What is misleading is that when >boot is highlighted there...

Re: T430 boot from mSATA

Legacy mode, easier than getting linux to boot up under UEFI. Not locked out of BIOS and I've been through every menu and every menu item and can't find anything that gives me the boot order. I'll post a screenshot(s) tomorrow. Too much work to take photos and resize - BIOS contents: Main menu (acro...

[solved] T430 boot from mSATA

Bought a cheap T430 to supplement my main T430 for testing. Came with a 320G HDD so have speeded it up with a 120G mSATA SSD. Installed linux mint onto the mSATA and wiped the HDD (had win7 on it). When I boot it just hangs, the only way I can get it to boot is hitting F12 on start and telling it to...

Re: ThinkPad T410 WIN 7 PRO 64 BIT Recovery Disks Needed.

You have bought a 1.8" SSD haven't you? For some reason Lenovo put a 1.8" SSD/HDD into the T410, a 'standard' 2.5" SSD won't fit. Assuming you have a 1.8" SSD and want to connect it via USB to transfer the OS across then you will need something like: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB3-0-Male-To-Micro-...

Re: Parts upgrade questions on T430

I may be wrong, but think the mSATA port is SATA1 whereas for the HDD is SATA3 = much faster. You would be better off replacing the HDD with an SSD.

Re: What do you do with Linux?

I began with Corel Linux
Wasn't that Xandros? which is where I started with linux in the early 2000's. I use linux for everything (almost - do have win7 in a VM for those odd sites that insist on IE and for word and excel).

Well, I spent at least 30 mins looking thro' the T430 ads on ebay and failed, couldn't find it. There's a lot of them.

T430 BIOS update

Cruising ebay looking for a cheap T430 to supplement my existing T430 (my daily driver) for use as a test machine and came across this warning on one ad: Very Important Notice!! There is a known issue by Lenovo on the internet that by flashing / updating the BIOS using Lenovo's own update software o...

Re: Time for a "what distro are you running" thread...

Mint for me. Daily driver is a T430 that I've pimped up (i7-3632, 16G RAM, 500G SSD) running 18.3 cinnamon, a T410 running 17.3 cinnamon and an old T60 running 18.0 mate. Why mint - it installs 'out of the box'.

Re: Suitable replacement for T420

As far as I'm aware the T25 is not available in the UK, don't know about Russia. Save money, get a second hand T430, it's not got the nice keyboard of the T420, but good enough for me. Can be modded, I've got an i7-3632QM in mine, max is 16G RAM. I run linux mint, hottest I've seen is about 85C runn...

Re: WWAN Card compatibility

I don't know, just fitted this in my T430: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182786504633 Did find that it was short - so could not screw it in, but the cover keeps it in place. What OS are you using, I'm linux mint and it sort of 'worked out of the box'. Been talking to someone else on the mint forum tryi...
