My IRQ settings were the same as yours. I have now set them all to automatic also and it seems to have made a big difference.

OK, In an effort to pin it down I removed every single startup item which consisted mostly of IBM utilites and tools. I still had a bit of lag during startup but it seems better. I would like to upgrade the drive in my T43(2668-F5G) perhaps using one of these Hitachi drives.

Is this currently the fastest replacement drive that can be added to a T43 without causing error messages?

Did anyone manage to find a resolution to this problem?

I still have it and its now becoming really annoying.

I have tried to abstain from moaning too much about my T43, but I have to say I think my old T23 is better. A smoother machine with less problems than this one.

I might also give them a call, if enough people ring with the same problem they might do some serious investigation as to the cause of the problem. They might even come up with a solution right away. I have installed the updates and I *think* that is has fixed the problem.

If it hasnt then it has been massivley reduced. Was getting to be a real pain, was causing stutters during internet telephony.

I know its a real long shot, but I have always suspected this might be the cause of the problem

I use an external mouse/keyboard about 50% of the time with my T43 and it does the same thing.

I dont think it has anything to do with the mouse itself.

I wouldnt have thought it was anything to do with anti-virus software. I have never seen that behaviour caused by AV software on what should be such a powerful machine.

Also, I dont have any AV software software at all installed on my thinkpad and I get the problem regulary.
