Re: Running an Intel X9100 in T601 frankenpad without hardware mod?

Senior moment... Still, what's wrong with the X9000, you want bragging rights? dude, if I just wanted bragging rights I would shut up and just do the standard quad mod. from your response I get it you didnt read my new thread i opened on this subject, I explain there in detail why I search for a ne...

Why can't you be happy with a quad-core X9000?
It's plug'n'play!
????????
The X9000 is a dual core, not quad, and yes I have an X9000 Installed in one of my Frankies.

OK I think I found the thread. Finding an easier way for quad core mod T601F

Hello I am starting this thread in order to help total noobz, like myself, get a better understanding of the process involving a quad core CPU on a T61 mobo. there are several other threads that talk about this but I found them to be difficult to follow due tot he many changes on strategies and also...

Re: Running an Intel X9100 in T601 frankenpad without hardware mod?

Hello. You can run your quadcores without pinmods, but they will work on 800FXB instead of 1066 - and this will result in lower clocks. Q9100 will work on 1.7GHz instead of 2.26GHz, for instance. ok, this is exactly what I am interested in. I dont care for FSB 1066, all I want is a quad core with m...

Re: 14 inch frankenpad question

Or you can do it the easy way, like I did it, you dump the modem. I personally hadnt used one in the last 15 years. this way you wont need to mess up with the chassis. as for the fan, here is a brand new one, not used. I bought the same item from this seller twice, perfect object. https://www.ebay.c...

Re: Running an Intel X9100 in T601 frankenpad without hardware mod?

Yes, and no. Without the pin-mod, the X9100 will request for a non-existent 1066MT/s front-side bus speed. This will cause the northbridge to not accept that invalid front-side bus speed, and then your T61 will not boot up. However, if you did the pin-mod to allow the T61 to accept the X9100, yes y...

Re: This T61, need some opinions...?

The funny thing is- I'm pretty sure I still have a Frankenpad somewhere(I built two), but it's not a high-spec one. It's an Intel-chipped T61 board in a 15" T60 standard, with the 1400x1050 FlexView instead of the 1600x1200. If I was going to put this board into a Frankie, I'd probably want to find...

Not to mention scratch-proof surface, non-touchpad palmrest and ability to sport a R500 motherboard. All my T601s are long gone. I'm with my R600 now, super-happy with what I can still do on this system. this is a type of frankenpad I am unfamiliar with, what are the exact parts ( and from what mod...

Re: R61i motherboard can't handle Penryn?

I'm seriously considering selling my top-end pimped T601 now. R6x build quality is just so dmn good and runs way cooler (even having in mind my T601 runs hardware modified T61p's fan). Put in a X9000 w/Dual-IDA and I can have a laptop computer, hammer, buckler and cutting board all in one. what do ...

Re: Questions on T60 and T61 ram/cpu upgrade

the FSB 1066 mod is easy to do, but the quad mod is a no go if you dont have experience the best you can go is X9000 with no mod and x9100 with FSB mod the fans of T60 and T61 are different, but they are interchangeable on the heat sinks. however I would highly recommend using a W500 or T500 heat si...

I have very little experience with "widescreen" batteries, but for everything else, Panasonic rules by such a margin that it's not even funny.

Re: Batteries for the T60 and T61 series, types and availability

That's definitely the case for the T4x/T6x (and before) timeline. I think things have changed later. Panasonic and Sanyo have merged, and new batteries coming out of the joint venture perform similarly regardless of the label. I'd say they are better than the old Sanyos. Sanyos are actually opposit...

Re: Batteries for the T60 and T61 series, types and availability

]SONY batteries are not as good as one would believe. My experience with SONY batteries of those generations is that they never calibrate the gauge: even after hundreds of cycles they will show Full Charge Capacity = Design Capacity, but actually they may have lost 50% or more. This is worse than S...

UPDATE 2

since I had another T 60 in the house, one equipped with a working T7200, I took that CPU and put it in the troubled machine, also, will not work, so its not the CPU the problem,

I will try a BIOS update, and see if this resolves the issue.

UPDATE I reopened the machine, put back the old cpu, VOILA it works, so there is a CPU problem, the question now is, is it because the cpu is simply dead or is it beacsue of an incompatibility? the T7600 is a 667 Mhz FSB, so the same as the old cpu, it should work, in principle. am I missing somethi...
