Re: Raspberry pi in an old Thinkpad
Funny, I was also thinking about doing something similar ... but I fully realize the monumental effort it would take. So that's a no. Has anyone looked at the Intel NUC boards? https://www.intel.ca/content/www/ca/en/products/boards-kits/nuc/boards.html Apparently you can get a low voltage i7 in a 4x...

Would you happen to know what sound chip the S30 has, and/or if the S30 has drivers for DOS sound compatibility?

Re: Thinkpad s30 and s31 - The asian miracles!
I'm curious - would you happen to know if the S30 has DOS Sound Blaster compatibility? If I am not wrong, the S30 and the S31 has an Analog Devices SoundMAX AD1981A codec. The AD1981A appears to be exactly the same as the AD1981B, specifications-wise. If this is actually the case, that means the AD...

Re: Thinkpad s30 and s31 - The asian miracles!
Welcome to the forum! If you browse deeper through the forum - especially this "classic" sub-forum - you'll see that there are actually quite a few posts regarding S30 and S31 models. A lot of folks around here owned them at one point - myself included - and some still do, including forum's owner.....

Re: New IPS FHD Upgrade Kit for thinkpad T420 T430 ,And T430S T420S
I don't think my battery has ever been completely flat. As stated above, it's in almost constant usage every single day. The lowest it ever gets is ~40% on the train to work. There were maybe only 1 or 2 occasions where it was left unplugged by accident and died, but I didn't notice any flickering ...

Absolutely no flickering issues. May I ask how long you have the kit? Mine originally was not flickering either, it came after few months of usage. The post was end of October, so most likely the beginning of October. I've been using it as both my primary work and personal machine, so it gets an al...

Well, it finally arrived after 4 weeks! My favourite PCMCIA cards back in the days were the Ralink ones, some of them even had "N" compatibility, albeit at 2.4 Ghz only. I'm certain that some of them must be still floating around, and for not too much money. The nice think about Ralink cards is that they allow WPA2 over Windows 9x. Since...

Looks like some basic pin headers and glue logic...wouldn't surprise me if someone could run that design up for you in probably 30 minutes. Hmm? You mean figure out the pinout for a real IDE cable? Because the problem is the "IDE" header on the Dock I/II is a 60 pin header ... sure, I could probabl...

@tdot do you use the laptop for CAD or any graphical work? just curious :). Nope I don't. @tdot please post an update when you get a voodoo running in their. I would love to see something like that! It would essentially make it a fully fledged 90s desktop. Still going to try! 60 pin IDE cable for Dock II (3546)?
Does anyone know anything about the 60 pin IDE cable that was used on the Dock II (3546)? Re: Dock II (2877) Windows 98 drivers?
Just as a follow up to answer my own question, a) I was being stupid - 2 of the 3 drivers missing drivers were the LAN/modem, which I assume it just prompted me for (again) since I had done a fresh install and had never installed them in the first place. b) There is ONE Win9x driver required for the...

Re: 701C obscure disk issue? Any suggestions?
My guess would be something related to "IRQ channels". IRQ = Interrupt Request Channels. In DOS and Windows 95/98, you had to manually configure which devices would use which channels. With Thinkpads, you could do some of this using the Thinkpad Configuration software. For some devices, it was even...

I've heard that but that's actually what I don't understand ... and like dr_st I don't quite understand why. (i.e. RMSMajestic asking why don't they support other panels) The T420, T420s, T430, and T430s do not know how to talk to eDP. eDP and LVDS are different languages. Rather than just making a...

Re: Dock II (2877) Windows 98 drivers?
There might not be any Windows 98 drivers because as you said there were no 95 drivers and those OS'es are built on the 9x kernel. I'm pretty sure they would exist ... somewhere ... the A20m was released before XP was released, and was supported by the docks. I don't think it would be like IBM to r...

The screens that are compatible are so because they are specifically programmed to be compatible with the adapter board, which identifies itself as the LCD to the laptop. So I don't think that screen would work. I've heard that but that's actually what I don't understand ... and like dr_st I don't ...

I guess I'll ask this here. Just FYI I have one of the T430 kits (the older one, with the board behind the display), and it works flawlessly with a B140HAN01.2 other than some light bleed from the board being behind the display (which I don't care). But I'm curious - do these T430 kits work with B14...

Dock II (2877) Windows 98 drivers?
I decided to put it in this section since it covers multiple different sections of ThinkPad models ... I recently got a Dock II (2877) for my A22m. Windows XP detects/installs all drivers no issue. Windows 98 gets very lost with half the controllers. Does anyone have the Windows 98 drivers for a Doc...

Well, I finally completed my build - after hours of BIOS diving and a fresh re-install, I'm ready to use it as my work machine! FS: T601F with Tuus motherboard and FlexView UXGA
Hey there, I've finally decided to sell the T601F I've built - I mostly built it to compare to a highly modded T430 to decide on one as a work machine, but at the end of the day, the T430 benchmarks at over 5 times the performance of the T601F. I do however, greatly prefer the UXGA resolution, but I...
